Update from Pompano Beach

Wind is gusting at 45mph. It seems higher to me. I think it’s because my building creates a vortex.

We are under tornado watch till 5pm.

Also…… On the news, Tampa Bay has receded at a record level. It show people out savaging. They will probably find hundreds of anchors and sunglasses. That actually looks like it would be a cool thing to do. Just saying
Until that tide comes back in with a vengence

LiveNow from Fox on YouTube has pretty good coverage, as they are taking news feeds from many different organizations that are in the middle of this mess:

Thanks for the link. Much better than cable right now.
No problem. We all have to try and lend a hand when possible because you never know when it might be you that needs the helping hand 🙏
So true. My family on Kauai lost most of their house during Iniki. They had to live in their living room for almost a year as they tried to rebuild. Always willing to help those that are not gaming the system and truly need a hand. 👍

That storm is sucking all the water out of the bay. Just wait til it comes back in!! Same thing happened with Dorian in the Bahamas. Sand bars were created miles from shore from the receding water, only to rush back in several hours later. That's part of why the Abacos flooded the way it did.

My grandma called me a smart-ass when I asked if she had her life jacket on. Then she laughed and talked about everything else but the hurricane.

Edit
She still has power, but my uncle a little further north doesn't. My thoughts are with AJ, and everyone else up north. Looks like landfall is happening now.

When all is said and done……. This storm will be devastating. Unbelievable flooding.

I am texting with him. Just texted with his neighbor Dr John who is riverfront. No breech of the river yet and hoping it wont. He did say its worse than they expected. He lost his vac home in the Bahamas a while back due to a hurricane.

Just got this from my brother. Ft Meyers. sorry no pics

I lost power so I don't have access to TV. But apparently the hurricane stalled right over our area. Winds are still blowing 80 to 100 mph. Been doing that for 4 hours straight. So you can imagine the amount of damage that is going to be done. There is a house across the canal from me being built. All of the cinder block walls were completed it was just waiting on a roof. Three quarters of the walls have been blown over. So that will give you an idea of how strong the winds were. The house is pretty much just a pile of cinder blocks now.

No…..We have no friends. Most people with any form of common sense hate us. lol

Its just my wife and I. All our friends either pre made plans or got completely surprised, like us, when it changed its direction.
I will be your friend John 😁

Wow...cannot believe those pics...particularly the canal house from the 2nd floor.... Those home owners are sitting on 2nd floor wondering what if the water is coming higher or what is that 1st floor gonna look like after this thing passes.... absolutely devastating...

For older homes it is absolutely devastating, they will rebuild for sure.

The new codes when you build on the beach is absolutely insane. You either have to build above the fema level (build up the pad). Or what most do is the ground floor is uninhabitable, you're allowed 400sqft of ground space. Any wall that is parallel to the water is designed to blow out and let the water pass through. Essentially the 2nd floor is your living area. The homes have concrete pyles driven to bedrock that keep the house anchored. The bottom floor will dissappear while your "main floor" is still standing, you could have 12 or so feet of empty air below your house.

Perpendicular to the beach are shear walls that carry all of the reinforcing. Fema is extremely strict on all of these modern codes. When you build new in Florida and close to the beach you're not only dealing with the county or city, you're dealing with fema, and also the wildlife department.
