Just spoke with my grandma, she moved her garden stuff inside, flipped her benches over and stored some stuff in her little shed. She's staying put, but has a full tank of gas. She hasn't put her shutters up either, but my uncle is just down the street, so he might show up and ratchet strap her carport and put the shutters up.

She is more worried about the flooding and possibility of tornadoes.

This is really close to where her park model is. I think she'll be just fine. The pond in her backyard might get close to the house though.

I just hope the storm doesn't move further south, because I don't think I can get there now, I believe the airport closes tonight.

Not to worry you, but she's pretty close to the Gulf. As you know, that entire part of the state is nothing but low lying swamp land. It doesn't take much to fill those retention ponds. I heard the Orlando airport is closed, or is in the process of closing. You might be able to make it in to Ft. Lauderdale, but I doubt it. 😢

My first question was how high is your pond? She said it's at regular levels, she's about 6 - 8 feet above her retention pond, I think she'll be fine there, but the canal next to the road to get into her park is going to flood for sure. I think it's too late for her to jump on 75 and head north, I think she'll be safer where she is, unless the storm keeps tracking south. If anything I told her to jump on alligator alley and head east.

She's far too old to deal with 75 and get to Tennessee by my aunt. I'm in Chicago and supposed to fly home to Vegas tonight, we'll see, I might change my plans. I'm definitely keeping a close eye on this now.

Hey guys……

Here is an example of the King Tide. Below is a picture of what high tide normally looks like. Look at jetty rocks.

Here is the same view, with the current King Tide. This tide would be here regardless of the hurricane. So hopefully you can see why this storm will be so devastating.

She would have better luck heading east vs. north. But as soon as she gets close to Miami, she'll get bogged down in all that traffic from the residents leaving the Keys. I think she may be better staying where she is, but might wanna look for a hotel for a night or two. I'll be thinking about her throughout the next few days, that's for sure.

Will do…..

The news here is non stop. Every channel covering a myriad of stories.

One news story that stood out, was the unbelievable amount of utility trucks that are preparing for storm. It could be a thousand trucks? I don’t know how many, but it looked huge! They are mustering in a central Florida location. I can’t remember where.

Ill keep everyone posted. I am in Pompano Beach, so I don’t expect any power loss. However, since the cone moved, our county, Broward, is now under tropical storm designation.

Have coworkers in Tampa.
Company offered to relocate all potential employees and family members (zero out of pocket) during the storm for up to 2 weeks. Have 1 team member that declined and is staying (I thought he was crazy). The rain and storm surge forecast in Tampa is going to cause some major issues!
My brother is in Ft. Meyers. Says he has done what he can do to prepare and is staying put. Hope he has made the right choice🤞
I have bout 10 family members just south of Tampa.........
They wont leave.

It's probably similar to some Californians and fires... I'm not leaving unless I live in NorCal or mountain region of SoCal with big trees.

The SoCal desert brush fires will burn down your house down but we rarely have the firenados and walls of fire 100s of feet tall.

After my first SoCal fire experience saving my family's house, I don't evacuate.

My Dad used to work for Southern Bell and was always swamped before and after these storms. They bring crews in from all over the East Coast in anticipation of the damage. He worked all over the Southeast and was instrumental with repairing significant damage from Katrina. Folks who haven't lived in the Southeast aren't familiar with the carnage. It's just incredible what mother nature can do.

When is it supposed to make landfall? Today?

@C-Ya whats with the neighbor down the way leaving his boat on the loft?! Ballsy.

Just went through the key west cams. Doesn’t look horrible. Rain. Bay looks actually calm. Back side looks a little white cappy but not horrible. Tourists still out partying.

To sum up today……. Windy, rainy, calm, windy, rainy, calm. Right now it’s calm.

Here is a pic I just took.

Now, for the neighbor down the way……

He actually has made preparations. If you look at the picture below, you will see that he has removed his T-Top, which is currently on his pool deck.

If the storm was heading directly our way, things would be much different. We are just not in the conditions yet, that would require evasive action. It’s a feeling of being in limbo. You know your going to get a storm…… but does it merit pulling boat and going through that exercise? It’s close, but not quite there. We have to settle for securing our boats in their present location.

Gotcha. Makes sense.

Did the condos across the way get their pools flooded? Looked like it from the first storm pic you posted but couldn’t tell.

Just hung up with my uncle, he's headed over to put grandma's shutters up, he also owns a rental park model in the same park so he's boarding it up. He's taking on a few people that are in town at his place, but he's only putting up a few shutters around larger format, like a few windows and garage door.

He thought the same as me, and is a little worried about it going a little more south. Right now, business as usual, tomorrow morning we'll see. He confirmed that Fort Myers Airport is closed or closing.

This one is gonna be a doozy

I was living on Davis Islands (1' elevation) in 2004 when Charley was forecast to hit Tampa with a 12' surge.

Left for girlfriend's place in West Palm Beach. Expected to lose everything.

Then visited my parent's winter home on Sanibel after Charley hit there instead.

Girlfriend then stayed with me when Frances and Jeanne hit the East coast later that year.

Also experienced storm surge from Ivan which hit Pensacola.

Fun year.

AJ & C-Ya try post often as possible next few days.
It’s 3:44 right now. The next update will come at 5pm Florida time. I’ll post an update for that.

Its not looking good for AJ……. Just saying.

AJ…… Your updates as storm hits should be quite interesting. I wish you the best. You could very well be at ground zero.

I hope not....I have been there for heavy rains and his pastures fill up like temp lakes. Usually soaked in by the next day. If I remember correctly his pastures are like 6 feet above the water table??? The house is up another elevation but not sure how much. That damn river is right next door to him as well so a huge surge that comes up thru there could spill that water over and leak into his property.

All being said since he is riding it out I would love to be there and ride it out as well. We would be putting down some BLs and BBQ something and just looking at it all in amazement, I am sure.

Yes, depending on where the homes are being built. My Aunt and Uncle's old house in Key West was only about 2' above ground. They lived by the marina. My Grandmother's house was about 4' up from the ground. She lived closer to the Bahama Village in Key West. Their house in Little Torch Key was right on the water, and it was only about 2' above ground. Since the good old days, they changed the building code and it has since skyrocketed. I don't know the current requirement for new construction in the Keys, but some homes are up on concrete and steel pilings about 12-14'. It's crazy.

Right now….. there is too much news. To some it up, it keeps moving on a more southern direction. This has now changed how it will impact my area. Advisories are going out.

Ive just watched both ABC and CBS National news. It’s doom and gloom…… statewide. The exodus is a story in itself. I highly recommend watching your National news tonight. It will be the best update.

Storm has spun up a couple of tornados already.
Yes…… We are having tornado warnings in my county. However, they seem to be west of me near the Everglades. Our wind and rain predictions have greatly increased too.

My wife asked if we should move the boat…….. I told her it’s too late.

So far, 2 tornados have been reported to touch ground in Broward county.

Currently all news stations are broadcasting continuous coverage.

Can somebody let me know what happens tonight on “Bachelor in Paradise”? Lol ( I am joking!)
