I’m assuming those with insurance, might be ok financially, but going forward, insurance premiums are going up.

I see a lot of RV park developments in the future for Florida.
Flood / Hurricane insurance in FL is via the federal government. Has a $250k max limit and costs $$$.
Most folks can’t afford it, so a ton of people have lost everything and don’t have insurance to assist with recovery.

Earthquake insurance is similar here in California, most can't afford it

Florida and Arizona are hot beds for retirees and east coast/upper Midwest vacation homes. Wonder how many of these folks are thinking right now “Let’s bail Florida and set ourselves up in Arizona”?

If you have a mortgage it’s mandatory, no way around it.

FEMA is here, but only helps people if you DON’T have flood or Hurricane insurance.

Not mandatory - it’s a common requirement of mortgage lenders, particularly if you're in a high-risk flood zone, but not mandatory.

Here you go. Again, if you have a mortgage.
Any location near water is a flood zone in Florida. Cape Coral especially.

Only if your mortgage is federally backed.
You do realize there are mortgages that are not federally backed. In these cases it could be a requirement.

Then you are correct. Less than 30% of mortgages that are not federally backed do not require it. For the remainder of the 70% it is mandated.

As of now sitting at ft Myers airport drinking Yuengling we still have no power. My father is staying till the insurance adjusters come for the damage he had and he will head back once that is complete.

The people in Florida have been amazing, neighbors helping neighbors. Friendly and about having good time, doesn’t matter the age.

No doubt that some people will leave the area. But I believe the majority will not, they love Florida that much. It’s different and hard to explain. I just know where I’m going when I hit that retirement age. Hopefully its sooner than later.

Pine island, who knows what will happen. Those homes were majority stick build and gone and not sure if there is stable land to build back on. Sanibel will be rebuilt but it will take some time. As for Ft Meyers beach, the ecliptic place that it was is gone and that won’t be back, but it will make wave for a new place to be and I believe it will be bigger and a place to be once done. Some will like some will not.

My trip to FL is done. Next stop Atlanta.

They made amazingly quick work of repairing the causeway. If you look up video of how F’d the causeway was, it’s pretty amazing how quick they got it open! Crazy.

That’s great but how in the hell? 😳I thought it would take months.
Any videos of the actually work?

There is actually some drone footage of them working on it on YouTube. Kinda interesting millionaire row gets their bridge rebuilt quick like bunny buuuuuuuut New Orleans is a different story. Guaranteed that’s gonna come up on someone’s talking points.

Great point. It’d be nice to think that almost 20 years of technology had a lot to do with this endeavor compared to Katrina.

Not my area of expertise by any means but I’m tending to believe that’s not the case.

I think these were temporary repairs so the linemen could restore power, looks like they just filled it in with dirt

Good point. All I know is the pictures I saw looked like quite a bit of significant damage.

Don't forget how quickly the bridges on the 118 were repaired after the Northridge quake almost 30 years ago, I think technology does play a role to some degree.
