I stated above Id add links asap..
Barges are being funded (some privately) to take supplies. Bottled water is discouraged due to weight/space (if you've ever worked in the construction industry shipping stuff inter-island you will understand). A Barge today is going from Pier 1 from the info I was given. I cannot verify it beyond this.

The only fundraiser I've been told is on the up and up (I'm sure there are plenty) is this one..I can't link it but it can be searched on the gram.

My friend Paul is very involved with Hawaii Red-Cross..its a bit different ran than the mainland. They are a GREAT resource in HI, and donations stay in HI. That is another option. This is a good place to donate to if you are so inclined.

I spent 2/3 of my life in HI. It's home. Our friends/family/contacts/etc on Maui are all impacted. Now is NOT the time for a vacation. Don't be a Haole, respect the locals and what they are unfortunately experiencing. The media reports on deaths are behind. I'm sick to my stomach writing this knowing what I've been told in the last hour. Maui is a place that is special to many, seeing insta stories of people missing posted by friends/family brings this super close to home/reality. Keep the firefighters/locals in your prayers, they are doing all they can.

Today we got an update from our place in Kanapali. Building is ok, no power or internet of any type. Roadways are a mess. Please no visitors for at least a month.

"After the donation site was set up in the late morning Wednesday, the line of vehicles dropping off donations was about a mile long. Semitrucks transported the food and supplies to shelter locations."

That was from a Maui county press bulletin today amazing how that community turns out.

Saw a FOX NEWS report of a guy hauling 50 persons at a time on his catamaran from Lahaina to the non burning east side of Maui. He was bringing back groceries and water to Lahaina. Is there any further info on this guy? I believe his name was Bryon.

Just got home from Maui last night, we were under staying at a condo in Napili bay. Sunday afternoon were were sitting under the banyan tree and went out of the harbor on a sunset cruise. Things went south fast Tuesday , no power, no cell service all gas stations closed , the road to the airport closed. Wednesday morning got up at 6 AM and took a pot of water to the BBQ to heat the water for coffee. A group from the condos were discussing the fires and all the damage., the only news was sitting in your car and listening to the radio. We decided to bail as thousands were living in their cars in the parking lots around where we were staying. The police were turning cars around at Whalers Village so we took the north road to get back to the airport. The locals call it the "narrow road" 1/2 of it is 1 lane 2 way traffic with a 2000 ft drop to the ocean ( never again) . Got back to the Costco parking lot and started looking for a room, discovered not 1 single room in any hotel / motel in Maui available. A friend hooked us up with his cousin who lives in Kihei and we stayed in their guest room. The airport was a shit show with hundreds sleeping in and around on the ground and the benches in the airport.

Stay away till they get this sorted out. Saw a guy with a RDP hat on our flight out

Another evacuation..
Had an interesting conversation this evening. After that conversation I find it interesting that there is still a fire issue after all these days. and it is in another location.

Grift and incompetence is common in HI government. Threatening to arrest boaters bringing in supplies from Molokai and Oahu is insanity. Especially when you sent a whopping 48 NG members…The New Yorker & shutdown pusher known as Gov Josh Green needs to immediately resign.

You have to understand island life, the elevator doesn’t always go to the top people have a tendency not to have forward thinking.

Culture is unique, and should be preserved, but forward thinking needs to be inserted.

Just read an AP news story or 2020 report identified all the issues with potential brush fires around in Lahaina and all of West Maui yet there wasn’t one fire rig that is four-wheel-drive or there’s ever set up to Battle any sort of grass are brushfire. Zero! No planning no deep thought in the forward thinking probably no generators to put out an emergency warning and things of this sort.

If we diverted one weeks worth of border expenditures and the effort to process the illegals it would probably be enough to solve most of Maui’s needs, or for that matter 1 days of Ukraine

I bet the first 5 days after a huge disaster are where tensions run high and shit has the potential to get sideways

They won’t…it’s the feds. I’m seeing my family and friends frustrations play out. The response is what you would expect. It’s disgusting. I’m just glad that I know Hawaii takes care of their own…regardless of a treaty-lacking government.

I read somewhere it will be 30 years before Lahaina is rebuilt if at all. Some native historians are already pushing it be restored to what it was when it was the Capital; wetlands; fish ponds and canals with a replica of the King’s palace. Not a bad idea in my opinion. I’m not a condo, resort fan at all. I’d rather be inland a bit. A 20 minute drive to the beach is not a hassle to me. Birds, frogs, wind and nature is what I want to listen to. Not cars, drunks, restaurants and the staged torch lighting BS.

I've been trying to post a Facebook link for the last hour and just can't see to get it to work. Anyway, the gist of the post is to let people know to keep coming to Maui. His name is Paul Brown and he's the General Manager of the Puamana Community Association and it's a very thoughtful well laid out post on how the rest of the Island needs the tourism and without it, things will get much worse. He lays out the scenario that of course you can't go to Lahaina, but that the supply chains for up to 80,000 tourists are still intact and if anything, there will be too much supply. I don't have a clue if he has any authority, but it's his opinion. If anyone can link his post, there is much more to it. Paul Brown from Lahaina

I gotta be honest, with several of our inmates relaying their stories on sleeping in cars for days and other issues, I dont think im comfortable with the infrastructure built up there and have no desire to return. At least not soon.

Watching this all unfold is showing me what to expect in the future.

But I can see how some will be freaking out. I was easily dropping 20 large to that island on my trip. Thats just from my lil family.

Alot of coin on the line.

Let him speak. Tourists should be staying away for a while. I don’t know shit though.
This, at least a couple months, let them get the infrastructure back up and shit cleaned up a bit before tourism money starts coming in

I’m going to bite my tongue and not post beyond this. That one got to me (not your post) Family, and friends, missing loved ones but Haole’s saying tourism first..piss off. This is why locals stay angry.

He said not mine. They have to do their thing there but the reality is and he knows it is that tourism is going to be part of the rebuilding process but there is a time to bring that back and it's not next week or next month

This will be my last statement on this as well. It was never my intent to piss anyone off but just show another perspective. I will say this however, from what I'm reading, it's not just the haoles that think the rest of the island and its people need to survive.

My guess is the death count will continue to go up. The latest is 93.

Most of the power to West Maui has been restored, including Kaanapali, Wailea was completely unaffected.

My brother-in-law scheduled to go in about a month the Kaanapali he’s probably gonna be OK. I haven’t went on the website today and they’re still booking rooms 4 to 6 weeks out.
Another note is a lot of the gas stations are now back open my guest in about a month the west end Maui will be able to be occupied again, but still consider that they’ll be placing displaced people and FEMA people at some of the hotels.

Timing was perfect for me. Our next trip is going to be back to Kawai. On a sidenote, the only way to get a Kauai nonstop is generally LAX, but a few months ago Southwest Airlines started nonstop flights from Las Vegas.

The value of that land is out of this world. My tin foil hat tells me that the area won't be down for long. It will come back, but not in the manner we are used to.
