Top photo…Magic Dragon with Duane Qualls in the seat.
Next….Aftershock Blown Fuel Hydru with Gary Owens
Next…Tasmanian Devil owned and driven by Robert Jordon.
All photos appear to be taken at the Oakland Estuary.
I remember, of course, Jack Cool, John Stegman and Clyde Parker selling photos in the pits but never Tambert.
Obviously he was around.
Jerry, thanks for these.

Also, thanks for posting these photos.
The Aftershock and the Shockwave I’m restoring are nearly identical in terms of rigging.

I was able to see how the seat was mounted and get the fuel shutoff and switch panel placement. Appreciate it!

I figured the boats were likely similar in many ways. Many of the old photographers photos have been surfacing. Cool, Ewald and the Hilak brothers photos on fb. Haven’t seen anything from Clyde Parkhurst although they were at the 1st boat racers reunion 23 years ago. It’s crazy to think the 1st reunion was already 2 decades back. We’re getting old Dave! 😊

I went to the reunion at Pomona not sure if it were the first or not. I met up with Ted Phillips and spent the day visiting with him. Hadn't seen him in decades.

Howard 19, 502 jet, finally got it wet this weekend, runs pretty damn good. Honest 75 mph boat with the bimini up and 117* heat, hahaha. Bought it last November, took to Shockwave to have new interior and found driver side stringer was cracked so had to replace the stringers and floor.

Well after 10 months of waiting for a motor and pump I can now say I’m in this category. Just got mine going this last weekend with Jesco’s boat above and it ran great! Happy to have it going!

Dave's a man of many talents. :D
Haha!
Thanks for sharing these!
I’ve never seen them.
Showed Billy this morning when I was there. We had a good laugh.
I’ve told the story a few times.
It was just one of those classic incidents from the old Needles “Vacation” days.
It was definitely time for Scotty to go night night!😂
Fun times for sure!👍

Boat was recently sold. Be great to see it show up somewhere.
I need to call Dago and see who he sold it to.

Interesting that this boat has the 006 Hot Damn Hondo number since it’s a Brendella not a Hondo.
Mike Brendel driving the UGH.
I guess Irv Brendel lost the Hondo Company in the divorce but got to keep the number?
Never thought of it that way before.
This boat went on to become the first Smoke on the Water BFH I’m pretty sure.

Sorry no Jet Boat ID’s.
Even as a teenager I didn’t find them cool.
Some things don’t change!😂😂

You were there? 😂

That does look like you next to the boat. 😊
That's when the blown flatty next to us pulled up and wifey said " How do we get our boat to sound like that?" Guy says put a blown motor in it and his buddy said and throw a bunch of money in it. She said lets do it, I told her new kitchen or blown boat, she said kitchen can wait.😁

No, that is our old friend and Parker neighbor Jim Van Dyke. He drove "War Bonnet" UGH and "War Eagle" BAH among a lot of other boats in between. JIm was a big player in NHRA Safety Safari for years after boat racing. He passed away a few years back and was celebrated at the NHRA museum. He was a special guy.

Cool seeing Ron Bolton driving different K boats! The K jets were wild and scary! KJ 225 maybe Glen Gill, not sure what his number was offhand. Lots of good memories with the K boat racers!
He was not only a great guy, but an excellent driver and incredible fabricator/engine builder as well.
I have so many great memories of him it would take many paragraphs to recount them all.
One year at Long Beach him and his mom sat with us under our Canopy. When the crackers came out he was giving me guff about racing one and how did I ever fit in the thing.
I told him maybe he and I should start racing one together…can you imagine me and him in a cracker!
We decided we would need to be granted a variance on the engine rules and figured a K motor would be just about right to even things out! The conversation was pretty funny.
He threw a quote at me on the ramp at one of the Irvine events after he had taken the K9 out for a few laps and the engine obviously went south.
As he came out of the water I made the “what happened” gesture and he says to me…”Dave, it’s never a good day when the oil hits the kickboard!” 😂😂
I’ve used that line many times and always give Ronny credit.
At his funeral, it came to the time where they asked if anyone wanted to say any words, a few did and then from the back of the church an older man, not a big guy with slight limp, walked to the front of the Church and turned around and it was Chuck Stearns!
He recounted a story after falling hard at a race in Parker and a young Ronny Bolton rode with him all the way to Palm Springs in the ambulance. He went to say the love and respect he had for Ron.
It was a special moment.

They gave out these pins of him and the K9.
Every time I see it on my bulletin board it makes me smile.
RIP Mr. Bolton.

Hey JJ!
Hope all is well!
Was just thinking of you yesterday.
I need an Algon prop release on the Shockwave BFH I’m doing for the Lions Museum.
Had one lined up but the guy couldn’t find it.
Gave one I had to Steve O cause he was really into them and wanted to rebuild it but when he passed I could never figure out where it went.
It will never be ran as the boat at this point is display only and probably always will be.
Let me know.
Appreciate it!

I remember the attention Chuck Stearns commanded as he stood at that pulpit. I think everyone in there would've washed his feet. 😊

I have some fond memories of Ron. He passed a couple of weeks after finishing my stacked tank. I asked him if he ever used Elsinore for a test course...? He said he would run wide open all the way around the lake. Would've been fun to see that! Remember when they were trying to promote the K's at a Dragboat race at Irvine lake and Ronnie pulled out the fishing pole while floating in front of the crowd? 🤣

I love this photo! Ronnie grabbed the trophy girl over his shoulder and set her on their table at the awards banquet. 😅

This story is true! Ron’s dad Dwayne didn’t think Ron was running flat out on the straights so he rigged up a disco light that came on when Ron was flat out, and Dwayne could see it from the shore! Ron was a great driver and the Bolton’s were lifelong friends.
