He was not only a great guy, but an excellent driver and incredible fabricator/engine builder as well.
I have so many great memories of him it would take many paragraphs to recount them all.
One year at Long Beach him and his mom sat with us under our Canopy. When the crackers came out he was giving me guff about racing one and how did I ever fit in the thing.
I told him maybe he and I should start racing one together…can you imagine me and him in a cracker!
We decided we would need to be granted a variance on the engine rules and figured a K motor would be just about right to even things out! The conversation was pretty funny.
He threw a quote at me on the ramp at one of the Irvine events after he had taken the K9 out for a few laps and the engine obviously went south.
As he came out of the water I made the “what happened” gesture and he says to me…”Dave, it’s never a good day when the oil hits the kickboard!” 😂😂
I’ve used that line many times and always give Ronny credit.
At his funeral, it came to the time where they asked if anyone wanted to say any words, a few did and then from the back of the church an older man, not a big guy with slight limp, walked to the front of the Church and turned around and it was Chuck Stearns!
He recounted a story after falling hard at a race in Parker and a young Ronny Bolton rode with him all the way to Palm Springs in the ambulance. He went to say the love and respect he had for Ron.
It was a special moment.

They gave out these pins of him and the K9.
Every time I see it on my bulletin board it makes me smile.
RIP Mr. Bolton.
I would have paid to watch you and Ron in a cracker! Our family have many great memories of Ron and his family!

Was reading an article from 1970 in one of my old Boat Magazines and they did an article on Dick Murdoch(all of us down in Carlsbad play skied and raced on Murdochs) and Duane was shop foreman at the time.
Never knew that!

I did not know that either! When I first started dating my now wife she and her brother and sister were waterski racing along with Ron and Bob Bolton. I know Duane was retired LACF. I think they all skied on Murdoch at one time.

That's one of seemingly well known boat... I've seen photos floating around for several years but thought it was more a ski boat.(long deck Hallett fan boy here) Has this boat always been this quick? Is it a heavy lay up or more on the light side? My dad has a 70' that is heavy as hell and I have a 71' that is flimsy and definitely not triple digits.

Did you loose this boat in the fire?
