Was Johnny McCardle(sp) driving? He had a knack for that side thing. It went up on it’s side at firebird and that parking job was the result.

The name doesn’t sound familiar and we were racing Larry’s K Boat around that time. Miss Gene Mooneyham he was a great guy and helped us with the K Boat. RIP.A guy showed up at my Machinist’s shop yesterday with these 2 time capsule engines.
He said he bought them both about 30 years ago out of a shop.
Wonder what old K boat they came out of?
Anyone know of Sanford Racing?

Great stuff Dave! This is the PODH class boat that was built by Wickens in 1951.
This is the forerunner to the cracker box.
Boat totally dominated the class the entire decade.
Best we can tell there’s only 1 other original PODH(Pacific One Design Hydro Plane) still existing.
No doubt this is the oldest inboard small closed course racing boat on the West Coast. When the class was retired…it had all the records.
Sharpshooter…hopefully you don’t mind but this boat set the Kilo record at just over 63mph. Doesn’t make the 70mph threshold, but still darn cool!
