I'll be praying for the best, it's still radio silent from my family in Naples. There's been a few posts from some friends in Naples and Ft Myers on the Facebook.
Thanks, hopefully your family is safe as well. The local PD said it might take a while but they are going to check the FIL's address when they can get to it. He is on Vanderbilt Beach and the pics my wife has seen of the area don't look very good.

It was in Broward County. I think near Plantation. It was 1 of 8 tornados that touched down in my county. The airfield probably being the most significant, of all the damage.

As a side note…… When the tornados were happening, my wife and I wondered if we would even notice. Would it just feel windier? Since it was already blowing like crazy. How can you tell when a tornado hits when you are already in a hurricane? I don’t know either. Lol
You cant miss the sound of a tornado, its sounds like a freight train baring down on you

Insured and time for a new boat?

I'm guessing insurance is higher than a giraffe's pussy out there. It's quite a bit higher out here in TX when compared to CA. Multiple $100k vehicles on my street that don't fit in garages and when I bring up hail storms, they ALWAYS say it's insured, and they aren't worried about it.
When I had my 27 Advantage in FL, I had several insurance quotes for $8-9k/yr. Finally got it down to $2k-ish with Allstate and to be honest, I wasn’t confident they would have paid out on any claim once they realized what it was.

State Farm doesn’t insure houses or boats in the state of Florida if that tells you something.

Just talked to a friend who lives on Sanibel....he and family went north to avoid...but his house, belongings, cars are a total loss from what he is hearing on the ground in Sanibel...
Loved Sanibel! I wonder how many people were insured on the island?

I just heard from family - that my brother and his kids are fine...Cleaning up process now. Still no cell service or power.

Fingers crossed you all waiting to hear from people hear soon!!!!!
One thing I’m hoping he learns from this. I’m surprised he didn’t have one seriously. Get a generator. He left earlier from Ft Meyers to Miami to borrow one from a friend. I texted him and he probably hasn’t even got it yet but I told him we will help you if you need gettting a generac type system after this all done with. For the future.

That evaculation comment is classic. If Charleston gets it, you’re going to see a whole bunch of that ‘evaculation’ in the North Charleston area. Many think Charleston is such a beautiful, friendly and quaint southern town. Try venturing into North Charleston. It’s one of the worst hoods in the country.

I ventured away from the waterfont looking for something, don't remember exactly now, just knew when to go back the way I came.

We did something similar on a cruise that ended up in Jamaica. Fine and dandy hanging with the crowd until we walked a couple blocks the wrong way.
Yea, we knew it was time to go back. 😁

There was a Facebook update last night. All of my family is alive. I think my uncle was headed back to my grandma's last night. I'll check and see if there's another update. My aunt updated as internet came back online, but cell service is still very very spotty.

Where to even began to clean up. Where does all the shit end up. You have a state covered in crap and it is all ruined. There will be some deals on Yamaha outboards though.
Landfills or burned. Usually the first after being torn down.
Mercury racing is 6+ months out for props. I see even a bigger backlog occurring.

Heard Bill Handel on KFI this morning mention that only 18% of the residents of Fort Myers had flood insurance.
WTF, how can you not have flood insurance in Florida is beyond me.

My dad and stepmom have it. I believe you can only get it through FEMA and it is not cheap.
When you factor in Flood, Hurricane insurance costs, plus regular homeowners insurance, you are looking at 5 figures annually. That is a huge number for a larger percentage of folks in FL.

I don't think you can NOT have it. My parents do and that price was a big shock once they bought the place, but they are also on a canal. Perhaps non canal houses don’t need it.

They pay 8k yr just for flood.

I’m not sure about this one.... all my homes in Fort Lauderdale had flood insurance, but they also all had mortgages. So maybe it’s they mortgage companies that force flood insurance on the homeowners?

So sorry to hear this. Best to your family at this time. :(:(:(

Once took a serious look at a nice place in Key West. Then I found out about the insurance required and the associated costs. Not needed if you pay cash. But, that’s one hell of a roll of the dice.

Detyens Shipyard by chance??
I was taking my time driving from Mass to Ft. Lauderdale for a month of maritime school. I had always seen pictures of the mansions and trimmed oak tree's and I wanted to check it out. Night before I had stayed close by in a hotel so it was real early when I went down to the riverfront the next morning.
Got hungry and started looking for a cafe that didn't have a line down the sidewalk which was leading me inland, pretty soon I start seeing people walking around that shouldn't have been at that hour and they were looking at me driving by in a not so comfortable manner. ;)

It's funny how you see Miami beach looking all beautiful and shit...

Two block inland and it's beyond Getto.

FEMA requires me to have it in Mass on the water. 10 years ago they remapped my area and about 8 feet of my backyard edge is in a higher risk zone and that tripled the cost. It could be my Mortgage company requiring it I forget, I know when I saw the new map I called my insurance company and they looked into an appeal and came back with nothing can be done.

That's exactly what I thought when I went to Miami Beach...5 mins away you better careful...

Driving from the airport I kept thinking "This is Miami?!?!"
I thought I would check out South Beach while I was down for school, after a week in Ft. Lauderdale watching the news I decided I could live without it.

LAX - Out of town visitors, trying to avoid the LA freeways when headed east from the airport, can get a sudden eye opening experience when eastbound on Century Blvd or Imperial Hwy.

My Grandma moved out of Long Beach ms a year before Katrina hit. Her friends that still lived there had flood insurance. The insurance company came back and said it wasn’t flooding, it was rising water. They were in court for years trying to get it settled. I think they passed away before they ever settled.
