Yup. They stated the reason was not being able to obtain adequate dock extensions. Gee...I wonder who grabbed them up? 😎

After the hose job Skater got last year, I wasn’t and won’t be participating in DS. Very much was looking forward to SCFW.

Politics....pfft.

Please share more of the story for those that don't know?

Whos' docks did they use last year? why can't they rent or build more if they need them? Floating temporary docks don't seem like that big of a deal to get or build?

And what does DS and Skater have to do with cancelation?

It was a fun event last year. We really enjoyed being involved on the outskirts of the event even though we don’t own a cat. Had a great time. I enjoyed the mellowness of it all. Wasn’t too crowded, wasn’t crazy or hectic. Just the right amount of fun I’d say.

Sad it isn’t coming back but I can’t say I’m 100% shocked. It was a lot for the organizers and promoters and it had some growing pains to work through. I gave it a 50/50 shot last year of it returning this year. But again, while not totally shocked, it is a bummer.

Some of it is speculation on my part. But DS “rents” dock extensions. DS is the week after SCFW. Do the math.

Occams Razor.

And the Skater comments. Skater paid for myself and Skater Mike in his new 438. We were to be “in the mix” at the street fair, nose to tail. We were 6-7 displays apart and way up at the end in the nosebleed section.

Only 2 folks have dock extensions in Havasu. Todd Taylor and DS. DS purchased their own extensions and stopped using Todd 2 years ago for DS. Last year DS allowed SCFW to use the DS dock extensions. My gut says it has something to do with when DS setups up the docks

Too bad the display thing didn't work out, I'd be bummed also.

That said -if you are suggesting DS has rented the docks out for their program, I still don't get why they aren't available the week before from whoever owns them? or again - if the Cat Fest needs docks, buy or build what they need?

Again, I was speculating. Singleton answered some of the questions.

I don’t have any answers. Just informing of it being cancelled and my speculations about the docks

Thx for post while I was typing out previous post. I kind of assumed and thought I had heard that DS bought their own docks. That's my point - SCFW should step up if they need dock space.

Just as DS has done for their event.

I know many of the heavy hitters were not a fan of our pond...Alot of comments on how small the lake was. A majority of these guys are used to running 50 + miles between stops. Havasu cant support that kind of event.

I was at the party at Pirates and alot of the big boats didnt make an apperance, they never left the London bridge channel. word on the dock was that the mouth of the river was a concern for them. That and it was pretty windy that morning.

unfortunate that they wont be returning...i really had a great time at last years event.

SCFW has docks via Todd. Since DS installs their extensions the weekend before DS, the docks are blocked from anyone else extending them for events that weekend.

This is 100% politics between the two events IMO.

It's exactly what I would do when somebody comes along a drops an event in a few days before an event that my family built over 20+ years to leverage what we had built. SCFW, pick another date and buy / build some docks and have your event. Leveraging someone else's sweat equity to build an annual event and syphon off customers while using the OGs equipment ... I don't have much sympathy for that.

In fact, Id call it perfectly played.

Sounds like they should adjust their date then or buy their own extensions.

That seems ignorant to me. SCFW isn’t looking to steal the show, nor were they doing a poker run or shootout. They were adding to the attraction as well they got quite a few more big boats out that stayed around for DS.
In reality seems DS is fucking the community of Havasu from banking on a ten to twelve day party vs a 4 day party. It’s fun to check out these big boats and let’s be honest DS typically has all the same big boat ballers every year so adding to the mix is beneficial to all.

Over 90% of SCFW participants attended both events. Some that I talked to said the only reason they attended DS was due to SCFW.

In the end, both events could occur if the parties played together, however i think the history between who works each event is impacting that.

Then do the event as a collaboration. share revenue / co advertise etc. A lot of events have sprung up around other events. It happens all the time (Pebble Beach concourses for example).

Do it with them and everybody wins. I know there is more to the story, but I seem to always favor the group that started something - not the new group that came along and pushed them to be "better".

Honestly Stacys mom passing is the largest reason that SCFW got cancelled..

Alvin / Ray & Myself we’re going to put it on this year (I helped last year).. when her mom got sick I told them I wasn’t sure if I was going to be able to help out.. when she passed I threw up the white flag and said I have more important things to handle right now. Ray pulled out shortly there after.

I can say that SCFW won’t ever rent the docks from DS again.. Christina had Alvin by the balls last year and she made real sure he knew it right up to the 11th hour. He won’t ever get in that position again.

Todd doesn’t have enough docks for SCFW, but these are al problems that are addressable.

Well now that’s what we Americans call competition, if some one doesn’t push you to be “better” we’d all still happily be driving Model A’s and Canoes!

This gets to the absolute heart of the matter. DS can’t see past their petty differences enough to understand the full effect to Havasu, vendors, Hoteliers, Restaurateurs, detailers and the list goes on. I personally know two Floridians, NOT coming now. Two events, back to back justified it, but not just DS.

No such thing as a free lunch.

If all those businesses in the city want two events, or as many events as they can get, they should team up and make sure both promoters have the ability to put them on.

That is what private Chambers of Commerce have been doing in cities for over a hundred years. Working together to help facilitate more business.

There are a ton of very successful business owners on RDP and in this thread. How many would do the “right thing” for the community while starting up their business? It’s a fun week and hobby for most of us. It’s not the main source of income for the DS crew but I’m guessing the cash they put up before the event is staggering for 99% of us. They didn’t do anything different than most when the Rock the Dock group or the SCFW tried to come in and set up shop.

Being from the car world, driving cross country for one show isn't normally a good deal. The numbers just don't work. For guys doing this stuff for fun, I know it's far from economical to begin with. You look at it differently if you can squeeze in another "bonus" trip tacked on to a primary trip.

@nganga , if you run up in the bay, post pics please.

While you do make a valid point, it appears to all be spiteful in nature. (Not your post)

Maybe they feel the footsteps of an event that threatens them behind them? Self preservation is strong. In any case, I’m gonna be there the whole week the woulda been SCFW.

We’ll be there the whole week also. I’m not sure if we’re doing the Poker Run in our boat but really want to do the Cruising for Kids event this year.
Hoping for good weather, great turnout and an even better RDP event. (Fewer dyno pulls and some live music).

I haven’t 10% decided what we are gonna do this year.. Chris wants to do it at his shop again.. I might just sponsor his deal and take a year off.

My problem with doing it there is it isn’t very rdp or industry exclusive.. it’s kinda everyone and their brother Just showed up.

If I do my own thing it’s gonna most likely be at legendz or?

DS is fun, but it seems to be the same boats, same drama, same stuff year after year. We’re headed to LOTO for DS week this year I think.

Per Rd's and Stacey's loss and I'm very sorry for your loss. The joke should continue regardless and I hope it will bring you both a little smile.

"LBR regrets to inform you that the dock extensions for Super Cat Fest are no longer available due to our funds being redistributed to the Drag Show's new stripper poles and walkway under the bridge "
(In all seriousness guys, this is a a joke and not meant to be hurtful to anyone or their businesses)

Understood, gotta be an expensive and time consuming deal. You could always scale it down with a taco truck/pizza food truck and hold it at the new man cave 😁.

@RiverDave - you have to do an after party. Somewhere, Someplace, Somehow.
@nganga - I am thinking of doing a fun run leaving from Thompson Bay - channel cruise and run straight to Pirates the morning of DS.
@sirbob - great points but I think they (Storm PR) shoot themselves in the foot each and every step of the way. With industry vendors, entrants, and contributing / promotional vendors. I wish they or someone put on events like Stu Jones @ FPC. I did enjoy SuperCat Fest last year - hope they can put another event on in Havasu. There is a large concentration of performance boaters looking for cool stuff to participate in. This is why we are seeing all of the branch SM groups putting on cool runs.

I have been a spectator and participant in Storm PR events. My highlight in either role is attending and catching up with RDP guys / gals. The rest is just white noise.

If only we knew someone who had a toy garage with a website and the amount of influence to make a event happen with sponsors…. Anyone know a guy?

@nganga i would make the trip past the sand bar just (usually my stopping point for my river trips) to see your boat. My son loves it! Bring it back down for the damn dam run!

I think RiverDave should just do his own event again. Highly unlikely with his already busy workload. I was disappointed he couldn’t take on SCFW. I was looking forward to going this year, no doubt with Dave at the helm it would have been a blast.

Same boats, same schedule, it’s getting played out. The event needs some new ideas annually to keep people coming back to see she’s new and different. If the organizers can’t think that far outside of the box they should consider bringing in some new minds. As a business owner you have to constantly keep evolving, if not your customers will find some who is.

I agree, but I don’t want to put on huge scale events like DS.. I limited our regatta to 70 boats and everyone had a good time because any of the problems that came up I could deal woth.. when you get in the 100+ range that becomes more difficult.

My building isn’t big enough for that type
Of stuff.. plus parking etc. Easier to have it at an already commercial location.

Plus ya don’t end up on probation for six months for it.. (like last year)
