I think everyone has a right to an opinion and perspective..

Not sure that is fair to nganga to kinda pin all on him or “his type” though? The guy just bought a boat, he isn’t the single cause of your frustration
If that's how it came across, then I owe nganga an apology. I'm addressing these types of events, and what Havasu has become. Another member was advocating more and more and more money could be made, more advertising, bring more spectators ---- that is what I'm personally objecting to, it's destroying the damned place in MY opinion.

Havasu will never be. LOTO, or key west. This is true for a few simple facts, only 3-4 on the water bars. Btw all but one are run down POS. Couple that these “bars” cannot hold a 23’ boat at the dock yet alone a 40’ skater. Lastly havasu to needles is basically the boating are for most of these guys. They can from the channel to topock in like half hour cruising. It’s NOT a big lake. The only thing DS has going for it is the street fair. It used to be the “fastest” to CS1 but not any longer with imposed speed limits and alternate starting times. I go to DS every year for the street fair (lots of fun there) and my usually boating weekends at 3 dunes or pirates.

Oh I think you’d find my preferences more in line with yours.. lol. However my “job” has different end goals.
I understand that, just as mine did I was cashed my checks and watched San Diego become another LA. But I didn't go to Havasu because of monetary opportunities, I went to remove myself from that environment and enjoy the beauty the waters of Havasu once offered.
The gorge has become a freeway, hell, even 10 years ago you could sit on a beach up river during the week and count on one hand how many boats would pass all afternoon. Now, fuck me, it's like that every 5 minutes.

I'm not sure if this adds value to the discussion, but perhaps something to consider from a guy who retired from racing event promotions.

Many of my racers just wanted a safe place to go fast in the go-fast cars they built. They were willing to spread some money around in the local economy in exchange for the opportunity. Putting on a show for fans was an added bonus and they dealt with the promoter as a necessary evil.

I suspect these big fast boat owners are about the same. Everyone seems to want something different from a motorsports event and at times they are in conflict.

Poachers on the other hand I don't like. It happens in offroad regularly. the promoters don't get along and do a disservice to the fans and racers by stacking event dates.

Recently you posted that how during your recent visit to the event site, you noticed destruction and were lamenting the loss of native environment you'd once coveted.
You should have been properly chastised for not embracing the better of that valley thanks to all the racers and promoters, as I have been for voicing my displeasure at what Havasu has become.

why do I have to give you a break ? I'm simply stating why I don't believe what you apparently enjoy about the "New Havasu" makes it better and why it doesn't for me.
Aren't I allowed to voice displeasure over all these events that detract from my ability to enjoy the lake the way I would prefer ? I must just accept your vision for Havasu and stay silent ?

Give us all a break, because you are being petty and dumb. What does someone's boat or bank account have to do with their character? I have news for you, the dick with the 40' boat would still be a dick with the 21' boat.

I didn't say the "New Havasu" was better or worse. You don't have to like change, and you freely voice your displeasures. But you have seen this play out 3X over in your lifetime and still haven't learned that change is fact of life. You wanted to retire 26 years ago and bought in a resort town, what the hell did you expect?

Not even trying to argue with you as I (and truly I think everyone that has boated on havasu for any amount of time would agree) miss the way havasu was. Of course, that seems to be the sentiment with nearly everything that someone has experienced first hand over the years, "the good old days" syndrome.

Anyway, honest question. Why not tow up to Lake Mohave to boat? Seems that lake is the way Havasu was in the 80's or even less boat traffic than even that. I know it's a bit of a haul from Havasu but it aint that bad.

Ummm, because you're the one who's unhappy with Havasu?😁
I see, so alleviate the person who's unhappy rather than the cause of that unhappiness, sounds like you work for the government. 🤣

When the unhappy person is irrational and in the minority, yes. :) Not everyone else lives to serve your interests unfortunately.

Why don't you ask the Native Americans if they like the changes in "Lake Havasu" in the last 100 years?? 🤣

The past several years we've explored other possibilities to be sure. This includes lakes in many other states. We've boated numerous times over the years on Mead, Mohave, been years ago, but Powell as well. Before we bought in Havasu, it was the eastern pacific in our sportsfisher and vacations in various Catalina Island nooks and crannies. Seriously considered heading back to the ocean, but COVID has driven the ocean cruiser market even for old junkers through the roof of any sanity and beyond.

We spent many years developing this retirement dream plan, with Havasu being the central axis, including local investments, garage condos and our mountain ranch property.

Two things that time has taught us. You can't always judge the future of a place by it's present and you can't completely envision life in your 70's, when you're in your late 40's or early 50's.
I can't change either what Havasu has become and continues to evolve into, and I can't buy back the years of my youth either.

As they say, "Shit Happens" ;)

At least I can now better emphasize with the native Americans. Why don't you go up and tell John Dutton, he's in the minority and to get to the train station.

Hope you remember this conversation in 20 or 30 years when "Know it all" children such as yourself are explaining to you how things are.
The one thing I've gained from RDP, is a level of admiration for my own children I never imagined possible. 😁

I get where you're coming from. I think everyone on this thread gets where you're coming from frankly, even if your delivery was a bit off so to speak LOL

Everywhere I spent time growing up has gotten busier and more crowded and has changed that usually leaves me longing for "the good old days" of the way it was. Whether it's Malibu, Pismo, Hawaii, Havasu, south florida, Idaho, Catalina or the city I live in now, everything seems to busier and busier. I enjoy Havasu still, but I don't live there. I enjoy seeing all the crazy big stuff out running and I enjoy the crowds (sometimes, from a distance ;) ) but I also miss the way it was when I first started going to Havasu in the 90's, when I was told on several occasions to "take my big ocean boat back to the ocean!" It was a 24' Baja outlaw 😂 When I was younger I HATED going to havasu in the winter. It almost depressed me. Now, I love coming out and spending time with family out there during the less crazy time. As time moves on, I find myself enjoying the slower pace of off weekends or even weekday boating. I have to say, all of last year on Havasu pretty much sucked! As AJ put it, "every weekend is as crowded as a holiday weekend and every weekday is as crowded as a regular weekend." Hopefully things will chill out a bit this season. I think it will.

@nganga can you post a picture of your boat to make everyone happy? Or update your thread? Best part of rdp was seeing an update of your build!

@RiverDave can you do a video with his boat like you did with the Howard? if he brings it to havasu for us that like boats.

well as far as the native americans, they are owning casino's and buying big boats. They have nothing to be mad about. and some of them still hate the white man. Its called evolution.

WTF is this delivery was a bit off BS. 😂 I thought everybody on here was supposed to have their big boy pants on and yet it seems I'm always offending some tender young thing. Guess it's because I worked construction and not some marketing job where it's all about impressions.

Of course it's apparently cool when I'm called names or scolded for being an old fart who should just go off into the woods and die to make room for progress. I get that, and frankly thanks to what some see as "Progress", I find myself considering that as a viable ultimate escape option.
I know, I know, don't let the casket lid hit me in the ass. 🤣

He's never met me, as most folks on here haven't I've never conducted myself inappropriately, yet get thrown into a "box" that makes him feel better.

I’ve met you!!
You’re ok…LOL
J/K

Steve is the most modest down to earth people you could ever meet. He doesn’t flaunt anything ever. That boat is his dream boat, not a fucking trophy. He worked his whole life to get where he is, against odds and with no small amount of personal hardship.
Attacking his success is a total douche move.

On a side note, the day I met him and his family his credit card got declined at Chilis…I still remind him of that!! Lol

I see both sides here, honestly.

I personally decided to pick up my toys and play in another playbox. LOL....Yes, a lot of it was to do with the way things have changed, but it was the Covid crowds that put me over the edge. I am hoping that simmers down in a few years and Ill be back I am sure. But for now, Ill let the weekend warriors like me have it. They Win...:)

Own a 20ft boat here. Still go to Havasu on the weekends. Love seeing the big boats. It's a motivation for me to work my ass off on Monday. Some of you guys bitch and complain too much. Desperate housewives of Havasu. 🤣

I won't argue with you on this much. I see your point. I should have been, but I had a permit and the permission of the BLM to rape the land.

I feel pretty strongly that KOH may have been the only reason Johnson Valley is not part of 29 Stumps Marine base and still open for use by the general public most days outside the two weeks of KOH. There were plenty of locals that hated KOH until we stood up against the base. Then all of a sudden we were friends.

I see DS as an opportunity, not a negative. Sadly I'm that guy that always sees an event opportunity and rarely thinks about the long-term impact. Selfish maybe? GDamn Promoters.

One could say that SnowBirds (Like I am now) wreck Havasu. They can't drive, they are slow, they don't like noise, whatever? They bring money to the local economy when the other income source leaves. This keeps local businesses afloat and therefore provides value. I don't think DS (I have never been) is wrecking Havasu. Big boats, Big Dummies, and thankfully Big Boobs seem more influenced by loose lending practice and a good economy than a bunch of rich people using the lake for a week to go fast.

I totally agree with your comments about the competitive stereo systems. Ridiculous.

If I could keep my RV spot, I would totally stay for DS and talk shit on the ugly rich people and their stupid fast boats. Idiots spending that money on gas could solve world hunger if they were not so damn concerned with looking cool and getting laid by supermodels.

PS my human power paddleboard is eco-friendly. Can't afford a boat, spent all my cash in 2005. No one should listen to anything I say. Surfs up today, damn mother nature.

The wake from a large cat on plane is nothing compared to large cruisers, roll bar boats or even toons loaded with 8-10 people. During DS I’m not half as worried about a Skater doing 100mph by me as i am a Sea Doo shooting out from any cove on the lake.

Let's fuck Havasu up even more than it has been 🤬 I know, what it needs is lots more people and 40' boats running around at 140 mph, because it's always all about the $$$$ and giving the wealthy a place to display their awesomeness. 🥴
Ho Hum, " Oh look it's yet another DCB or if the God's are shining an all mighty Skater " 🥳
I think they're amazing, and the first few I saw gave me giant wood, but they were in the Ocean and were about to race. Seeing them on Havasu or lined up on a street, is like viewing a lion in a cage, you've seen one, you've seen them all.
Just like the new CC fad, who gives a shit, a big fishing boat with a half dozen outboards lined up across the transom, oh whoop !!!

You know, there's a whole lot of us, who enjoyed how GREAT HAVASU WAS ------- "WAS" being the key word here, before all these mega sized ocean boats and all this hoopla and bullshit they bring, before all these crowds and spectators, because that's when Havasu was truly great. 😍

In fact, if all these were to go away, and we could get back to the Havasu that was great, the one where you could boat all day in a 18' boat, the one where you didn't have to share the roads with a thousand Side By Sides and Bro-Dozers galore, I might have actually been able to live there as was the plan when I bought 26 years ago. As it is now, we have to plan around these events you so covet, just to avoid all the bullshit they bring to an otherwise nice town and lake.

" Make Havasu Great Again " --- Never, it won't happen, that ship has sailed, and you apparently missed even knowing how great it WAS. 🥺
Paw. . Is that you??

I think Havasu 26 yrs was more of party then it is today....Yeah bigger boats today but I have vhs tapes that have wall to wall smaller boats in channel on the big weekends..not as many tats, but the same good time.. I remember doing the circuit...from the RoadWay Inn to Hussongs to the Tiki Terrace....... Hussongs line was around the block ...even before Kokomos....If anyone bought in Havasu in the late 80's to mid 90's (even after MTV put it on the map 26 yrs ago 1995)...and you thought that it was going to be a quite resort town...you are focking fooling yourselves... Actually Parker was crazy in 60's-mid 80's and then Havasu took the crown... Parker on a Memorial Day weekend now is sleepy compared to what Havasu brings.... but no one should act surprised given the trajectory was there in the late 80's....

Man builds house on hill blocking everyone's view. Man then gets pissed when someone else try's to build another house on the hill because it blocks his view.

In 1960 California had a population of 15 million and as of today that population has increased to nearly 40 million.

You can't stop progress and unfortunately everyone's little hunny hole or secret spot has changed.

The good times continue in Havasu. What changes is as we age our ideas of a good time become drastically different.

Oh sure on holiday weekends, but you could venture from end to end on Havasu mid-week and count the number of boats on one hand. You could go up river and count none some afternoons. You could drive all around the town in the mid 90's and not find anything resembling the congestion one encounters today.

It’s people like you having children is what caused all these problems!!

Is it really that much of a detriment to your life to see 50 boats on the lake on a random Wed than 3?

Wait,

The fact that you bought your place in Havasu in the height of all the partying and Havasu craziness pegs my BS meter on this one. Yes Havasu has changed. All places change. Buying somewhere desirable and expecting it to stay stagnate and frozen in time for 3 decades is not realistic.

Bitches about Havasu because one weekend a year they have a big fast boat event...

Defends California that has bums living on every street corner shitting in public, lets criminals roam free, doesn't prosecute theft, high taxes, etc etc. 🤣🤣🤣🤣

In which way is Peoria better --- because of the "New Look" ?
Is Havasu better now because of all the new "Cool Mega-Boats" or was it more cool back when you didn't have to hear somebody else's music preference, instead you could go up the gorge and listen to mud hens or an occasional burro while viewing the serenity one can only find in such an amazing environment.
I'm sorry, and I'm really glad you're enjoying your wealth and so kind to share it on display, but you'd favor many of us curmudgeons by simply thrilling the lucky folks on Lake Pleasant.
Now that I'd accept as being better.

I will do my best to endure the crowds and find pleasure whenever possible in their absence, but I will never accept what Havasu as become and continuing to "Evolve" into, as being better.
There's not one single thing better about it unless filling your bank account is all that matters.
You can certainly trust that I made my wealth contributing to the desecration of first my native Orange County and then continued it later in San Diego.
While filling my pockets with $$$ on one hand I was screaming for San Diego to wake the fuck up and just say NO, and of course the dollar screams louder, just as it has at Havasu.
So OK, sure there's a positive, a better if you will, we've traded what used to be an amazing lake, for a huge profit when we sell.
See I'm thinking positive now.
I think the stress of living in Southern California is getting to you. 😂😂😂

I love going to the street party and will usually try make a busy weekend on the water in havasu to see the craziness but after that spend most my time on mead mostly to the fact I have a 4 and 2 year old and it is easier on me out there. I'm just mad we don't have the water levels we used too. I still like skaters lol

@nganga can you post a picture of your boat to make everyone happy? Or update your thread? Best part of rdp was seeing an update of your build!

@RiverDave can you do a video with his boat like you did with the Howard? if he brings it to havasu for us that like boats.
Here's where Pokerrun388 would shine.
He'd post pics of the build, pics of Steve running it, build specs, performance specs, what Steve ate for lunch...

He sure liked the Skaters

I think the stress of living in Southern California is getting to you. 😂😂😂
No, I believe it's the daily stress of reading about it here on RDP that's finally taking it's toll. 🤪
Well, that and Skaters, those damned things really freak me out.

Thinking that Havasu used to be great and no longer is, does not make me a Curmudgeon, it makes me a person who misses how wonderful boating on Havasu used to be. I recall how fun it was exploring the upper river section and gorge USED to be
Some of us remember that.
Some of us can also remember what it was like living there all year too.
Some things were better.
My dad used to launch the flatty on Mudshark beach and we rode the ATC around.
That! Was definitely “better” back then.

I also remember in 83/84ish when it was a huge deal because K-Mart was opening a store in town.

There were few options for buying goods and many times had to go to Phoenix.
Dad had to go to Kingman once to get a tire because no one in town had one or much interest in getting him one.

Boat breaks down? Only a few choices back then and you were probably hosed for the weekend. These days there are many options and better chances one of them helps you get back on the water.
They are here because there is traffic to support them.

Dining out there were only a couple of joints to choose from. My favorite was Taco Hacienda👍
I heard it sucks these days. Truth be told it probably sucked then too but what was the option?
Now there’s an In&Out👍 Among many other options.

If anyone can explain why that sucks I’d like to hear it.

Even back then my dad knew we weren’t going out on the water on holiday weekends because it sucked. It did then and it does now, only difference is the size of some of the boats.
