We transported Mikes new 438 skater to both events. Tony at skater told me that he paid DS to display this one million plus boat near the center of the street party. They parked us and the 368 at the end of the street closest to the lake. The owner of the boat was so pissed off he said to take the boat back to skater and not even put it into the water for the poker run. On the other hand the boat was on display at the super cat fest and everybody enjoyed the boat. Tony at skater told me they will never again come out to DS as a sponsor.

And there it is, I just didn't want to say it. DS, losing Skater as a sponsor? That is newsworthy.

Jeff was there with us the whole time. Think about the two newest Skaters, both finished three days apart, separated from each other by 6-7 displays, and put up in the "nobody goes there zone" was in my opinion, intentional. Tony paid for it, didn't get it.

Bayliner to Skater if you paid for a display location there’s no excuse for not honoring it.

Who took the Skater location?

Title? That’s 30k? 😳

Regardless if they paid whatever they should have got it.

Not sure. But the original map I saw was; the new 438, then me and IIRC, either Paul Tracy or Predator in front of me? I don't really remember the exact order, just the fact that we all got nosebleeds. In fact, we were so far removed, you could still park in the parking lot, right behind our display, my wife did.

Its not the placement that got us, it was the politics behind it. We even tried to get ourselves together when lining up in the back lot and were instructed to go back. I'm over it, just won't do it, ever again. Its a damn long day. Got to get to line-up at 9:30 and I didn't leave until 9.

Jeff, when are you taking Johns Skater out for a run? Take some pics. I'm curious to hear how it runs with the new power.

Imagine running the rdp booth. We start at 7pm and are out of there by 10-11 pm… It kicks our asses. 😳🤪🤪

My building isn’t big enough for that type
Of stuff.. plus parking etc. Easier to have it at an already commercial location.

Plus ya don’t end up on probation for six months for it.. (like last year)
ive seen the 6 months probation thing. whats that about? or can i be led in the direction to find the info...

I have not had time to run it yet. I'm leaving havasu friday with cashbars M 37 for the Miami show, You can't just hook it and go. there are boats in the way, its sort of a pain in the rear

I got a noise ticket.. when I went to pay the fine the officer wrote it up as a misdemeanor. I ended up getting a lawyer etc but it resulted in a fine and six months probation..

Never heard of that from a noise ticket? But that’s what it was.

Desert Storm could be a huge event. I said this a few years ago but whatever. It amazes me that the city of Havasu doesnt get all the businesses involved. This event could bring in 10X the revenue to the city if it was marketed correctly, 1 week before the event there should be a huge banner on both ends of the 95 saying welcome to desert storm. Hell i bet you half the people who live in havasu dont even know what desert storm is. Put it on billboards in long beach in temecula in orange county all the way up to the valley. We all know how fun it is. The west coast needs to know. This should be as big as LOTO. The shootout is so poorly ran for the fans. No idea what the speeds are. no idea who is running. There are so many missing pieces to this puzzle.

Whoever said Catfest and DS should hook up is correct. I would be a little miffed if i was DS and Catfest moved in the week before. of course. makes sense. But someone at the commerce department should get these sides together and do whats right for the city and all its businesses. Make it a 2 week event whatever. build more hotels. more rentals. more businesses prosper. Put your pride away and give a ton of money to charity put a little coin in your pockets and Make Havasu Great Again

Let's fuck Havasu up even more than it has been 🤬 I know, what it needs is lots more people and 40' boats running around at 140 mph, because it's always all about the $$$$ and giving the wealthy a place to display their awesomeness. 🥴
Ho Hum, " Oh look it's yet another DCB or if the God's are shining an all mighty Skater " 🥳
I think they're amazing, and the first few I saw gave me giant wood, but they were in the Ocean and were about to race. Seeing them on Havasu or lined up on a street, is like viewing a lion in a cage, you've seen one, you've seen them all.
Just like the new CC fad, who gives a shit, a big fishing boat with a half dozen outboards lined up across the transom, oh whoop !!!

You know, there's a whole lot of us, who enjoyed how GREAT HAVASU WAS ------- "WAS" being the key word here, before all these mega sized ocean boats and all this hoopla and bullshit they bring, before all these crowds and spectators, because that's when Havasu was truly great. 😍

In fact, if all these were to go away, and we could get back to the Havasu that was great, the one where you could boat all day in a 18' boat, the one where you didn't have to share the roads with a thousand Side By Sides and Bro-Dozers galore, I might have actually been able to live there as was the plan when I bought 26 years ago. As it is now, we have to plan around these events you so covet, just to avoid all the bullshit they bring to an otherwise nice town and lake.

" Make Havasu Great Again " --- Never, it won't happen, that ship has sailed, and you apparently missed even knowing how great it WAS. 🥺

So, you resettle or retire or whatever in Havasu. Then bitch about all the stuff that goes along with living in a resort town with a big lake. (Lake).

Curmudgeon defined.

No, we started boating on Havasu in the mid 70's, enjoyed it so much, we bought 26 years ago with the plans to live out there during retirement. We've enjoyed how Havasu WAS, and how wonderful the lake USED to be, but do not appreciate what it's become.
I bought my first boat in 1964, and not a single year of my life since have I not had one either in the ocean or on a lake, or both.

Thinking that Havasu used to be great and no longer is, does not make me a Curmudgeon, it makes me a person who misses how wonderful boating on Havasu used to be. I recall how fun it was exploring the upper river section and gorge USED to be, before it became a freeway and race track for 40' tunnels who seem to think everybody should get their dick's stiff because they got hosed down by awesomeness.

It also makes me a person who doesn't believe the presence of you and your boater brethren make Havasu a better place for all, just some.
So while some welcome you, others of us can't wait for you to leave so we can enjoy Tuesdays and Wednesdays (If we're lucky) before the masses show up again.

Not sure what to tell you other than perhaps it’s time to move?

I stated boating there in the 80’s I agree it was better, less crowded and a more enjoyable experience. But bitching about everyone but a narrow scope of what you deem acceptable won’t change anything.

There are, I’m sure those that overdrive cats in traffic but I’m not him. Broad strokes my friend.

There are plenty of other douche drivers in a multitude of different boats types. You single out “40’” cats. Desert Storm is a fact of life.

I didn’t ruin “your” Havasu

@Taboma

To add;

I live in Peoria AZ. I went to Thunderbird High School, not far from where I live now. My wife of 39 years also went to T-Bird. I'm a native and my wife is almost a native. I love where I live. Its far FAR different than the way it was back in the 70's, but I have evolved along with the city.

We grew up with small jet boats at Lake Pleasant, the old Lake Pleasant. We would day camp at a place called Dirty-Shirt. We could back in anywhere your vehicle could get you out of. It was, on weekends, boat to boat to boat for miles. It was a loud fun drunk-fest. @Instigator and I were friends then and we are still friends today, he lives about 300 yards from me. Lake Pleasant is different now, I'm different now. Point being, nothing stays the same. You need to accept that your not going to change it back and learn to embrace the change. If you don't, the hate will eat you alive.

Peoria is different. I could sit here and bitch about the fact I used to be able to go shoot doves, right about where my current home is. But, I have embraced the "new look" North Peoria, and absolutely love living here. I simply found other places to shoot. I like the new Lake Pleasant and only go there during the week because of all the reasons you state. I have adapted to change and accepted it for the better.

Just some food for thought.

While all that sounds great, it will never happen..

People don’t play well with others in the sand box.. too many egos, politics, bullshit etc..

There isn’t any working together. Any other events are considered threats not bonuses.

So to come full circle as they say “jump on in the waters fine!” Send me a sponsorship package, we will show up. Lol

Wait,

The fact that you bought your place in Havasu in the height of all the partying and Havasu craziness pegs my BS meter on this one. Yes Havasu has changed. All places change. Buying somewhere desirable and expecting it to stay stagnate and frozen in time for 3 decades is not realistic.

Your absolutely correct. But if I'm DS and look at an event the week before, that draws more attendee's, not less I'm at least interested.

The short sighted view they have now has driven folks away from their "exclusive event", not to it. There are folks talking. Folks from all over the mid-west and Florida. They are pontificating, not driving 2500 miles for just DS, but already had decided to attend both.

That said, I can see it through their prism. They are in fact a competing event. Competing for the exact same demographic. I know for a fact my absence means exactly zero to them. But id others feel the same but keep quiet and just don't come??

Do you think the goat rope that was the Shootout is a draw or a negative? For a guy that might spend many thousands of dollars to prep his boat, update his power all to be told you lost because "we calculated" the winner based on speed differentials we observed with our equipment.

I didn't do the Poker Run because my boat was broke, but I heard from MANY, it too was a goat rope.

The Street Fair is cool AF, but as you've seen me bitch, we got hosed on that.

I swear I boat a different havasu than everyone else.

Yes holiday weekends are a shit show. Have been for 30 years.

But we still seem to go from nautical to needles without stress. In a 21ft outboard. And we usually ski on the way up.

Remember what I said yesterday in the Rivian thread? The middle-aged and elderly folk here are screaming “Get off my gravel” and don’t like change.

98% of the time I have 0 problems on Havasu. If these people have been coming to the lake for as long as they say they have, why don’t they know the places to go where there aren’t any people?

On the busiest of weekends I can go beach somewhere and be 1/4 mile away from anyone all day.

In which way is Peoria better --- because of the "New Look" ?
Is Havasu better now because of all the new "Cool Mega-Boats" or was it more cool back when you didn't have to hear somebody else's music preference, instead you could go up the gorge and listen to mud hens or an occasional burro while viewing the serenity one can only find in such an amazing environment.
I'm sorry, and I'm really glad you're enjoying your wealth and so kind to share it on display, but you'd favor many of us curmudgeons by simply thrilling the lucky folks on Lake Pleasant.
Now that I'd accept as being better.

I will do my best to endure the crowds and find pleasure whenever possible in their absence, but I will never accept what Havasu as become and continuing to "Evolve" into, as being better.
There's not one single thing better about it unless filling your bank account is all that matters.
You can certainly trust that I made my wealth contributing to the desecration of first my native Orange County and then continued it later in San Diego.
While filling my pockets with $$$ on one hand I was screaming for San Diego to wake the fuck up and just say NO, and of course the dollar screams louder, just as it has at Havasu.
So OK, sure there's a positive, a better if you will, we've traded what used to be an amazing lake, for a huge profit when we sell.
See I'm thinking positive now.

What does his bank account or his boat have anything to do with you? He didn’t cut you off on the lake did he? He didn’t park his trailer in front of your house?

You freely admit you made your life’s money off “changing” OC and SD and funding your retired lifestyle, but now because you’re retired you stamp your feet others are making money changing Havasu?

Dude, give us a break!

"could be a huge event" ?! When Jim was running Desert Storm it was, at one point, the largest poker run in the Country. Jim also pulled off something no other event had done or has ever done again - right around 2007 they had the poker run, shootout, street party AND offshore races all together. Desert Storm set the bar for all the other poker runs / shootouts that now do a street party. No one was doing that shit before DS. DS IS a huge event still that draws more people than most poker runs. I don't believe they need any advertisement in any other city as all performance boat owners and manufacturers know of this event. Not to mention every hotel was sold out last year. Had a bunch of people looking for ANY room and nothing could be found. This event has drawn EVERY major builder and performance boating business out multiple times over the years (factory reps from MTI, Skater, Mercury, Donzi, Fountain, Cigarette, Outerlimits etc etc. have all been out multiple times). We've been coming out and doing the Desert Storm Poker Run weekend since it was the Arizon Hot Boat run in the 90's and then morphed into another poker run (name escapes me) and then into Desert Storm. It just kept snow balling every year until the mid to late 2000's where it peaked. But make no mistake, this event doesn't need another event to carry it. Would it add more registrants? Sure. But will it make or break the event? Absolutely not. People will keep coming from all over the country as they always have. I actually find it amusing talking to friends in New York and Florida and LOTO and other places back east that come out for DS. They all say, "lake is too small, don't know if we'll be back". But 90% of them come back! It's a fun lake and a fun event. Always has been.

I agree it could be pumped up a little more in town, well, more inviting for participants I should say, but frankly, I don't think the city or lake can handle it being much bigger. DS21 was a SHIT SHOW! Lake and town. Never seen it more crowded in my lifetime. Now, this could be covid, no kid sports, work from home ,etc still in full swing but it basically sucked out on the lake. Never had that feeling on havasu before, ever. Guess we'll see what it looks like this year and compare.

The new management of DS has rubbed a lot of people the wrong way from the stuff I've heard over the past couple years. Which is unfortunate. Jim and Art ran it so well, for the right reasons and did such a fantastic job building it to what it was. It's sad to see the event go through these new growing pains. I hope they (the promoters) can smooth things out.

I'm on the fence about the whole SCFW / DS combined thing. Like I said before, I really enjoyed going out for 10 days and doing both events. And like I said, I actually enjoyed the more relaxed event of SCFW. The event and the lake was WAAAAAAAY less crazy. But I can understand that the two events are two separate entities run by two separate groups and getting all these people on the same page can be, well, challenging to say the least. I understand that the organizers of DS don't feel they need to attach themselves to another event. Do I necessarily agree with that? No, as I'd like to see it happen again. But do I understand the thought process behind it? Yes.

It's time to move to Oklahoma. Hell, you could probably buy 20 acres with your very own lake for your Havasu home profit.

He's never met me, as most folks on here haven't I've never conducted myself inappropriately, yet get thrown into a "box" that makes him feel better.

why do I have to give you a break ? I'm simply stating why I don't believe what you apparently enjoy about the "New Havasu" makes it better and why it doesn't for me.
Aren't I allowed to voice displeasure over all these events that detract from my ability to enjoy the lake the way I would prefer ? I must just accept your vision for Havasu and stay silent ?

Better yet, I'll remain in Havasu and you move to Oklahoma. Why should I have to leave ?

I do find it a bit bizarre how ya just got pigeon holed because of the type of boat you own..
This isn't about HIM and I didn't Pigeon hole him, it's about what this thread is about and how I'm allowed to prefer my brand of Havasu over his and quite obviously yours.

I think everyone has a right to an opinion and perspective..

Not sure that is fair to nganga to kinda pin all on him or “his type” though? The guy just bought a boat, he isn’t the single cause of your frustration

Negative much?

Oh I think you’d find my preferences more in line with yours.. lol. However my “job” has different end goals.
