Some of us remember that.
Some of us can also remember what it was like living there all year too.
Some things were better.
My dad used to launch the flatty on Mudshark beach and we rode the ATC around.
That! Was definitely “better” back then.

I also remember in 83/84ish when it was a huge deal because K-Mart was opening a store in town.

There were few options for buying goods and many times had to go to Phoenix.
Dad had to go to Kingman once to get a tire because no one in town had one or much interest in getting him one.

Boat breaks down? Only a few choices back then and you were probably hosed for the weekend. These days there are many options and better chances one of them helps you get back on the water.
They are here because there is traffic to support them.

Dining out there were only a couple of joints to choose from. My favorite was Taco Hacienda👍
I heard it sucks these days. Truth be told it probably sucked then too but what was the option?
Now there’s an In&Out👍 Among many other options.

If anyone can explain why that sucks I’d like to hear it.

Even back then my dad knew we weren’t going out on the water on holiday weekends because it sucked. It did then and it does now, only difference is the size of some of the boats.
It all went downhill when Yellow Front closed😢

Oh sure on holiday weekends, but you could venture from end to end on Havasu mid-week and count the number of boats on one hand. You could go up river and count none some afternoons. You could drive all around the town in the mid 90's and not find anything resembling the congestion one encounters today.
Back then you could count the number of lights on 95 on one hand too... :) You moved there cause you loved it......you were not the only in on the secret... many other California, AZ and Canadians learned the same...Who would have thought Chainsaw's would start something that ended with street fairs and rack storage. I have a bud that owns storages and on the storage owner forums they point out Havasu is the highest box storage rent per square ft of most places in the country. I hear you....I wish things stayed as were...and we could still buy 2.5 liter Merc Racing outboards.. ....but its like Diary Farming....they build 30-50 miles outside of town...and as soon as its up and operational they start looking for the next spot hundred miles out as the town eventually catches up to them. I think of resort/retirement towns like that....you almost have to keep moving to catch a decade or two of peace and quiet. 👍

I’ve met you!!
You’re ok…LOL
J/K

Steve is the most modest down to earth people you could ever meet. He doesn’t flaunt anything ever. That boat is his dream boat, not a fucking trophy. He worked his whole life to get where he is, against odds and with no small amount of personal hardship.
Attacking his success is a total douche move.

On a side note, the day I met him and his family his credit card got declined at Chilis…I still remind him of that!! Lol

Since you're defending Steve, I'll ask you, who is he even talking about who threw him into some box ? " He's never met me, as most folks on here haven't I've never conducted myself inappropriately, yet get thrown into a "box" that makes him feel better."

Steve inserted himself into my reply to Dirtbag's post suggesting we have more and more events and they should be advertised all over So Cal.
I disagreed, but nothing in my response even mentioned Steve. Steve decided to make it about himself, not me.

Remember what I said yesterday in the Rivian thread? The middle-aged and elderly folk here are screaming “Get off my gravel” and don’t like change.

98% of the time I have 0 problems on Havasu. If these people have been coming to the lake for as long as they say they have, why don’t they know the places to go where there aren’t any people?

On the busiest of weekends I can go beach somewhere and be 1/4 mile away from anyone all day.
I want still be around when you 60 + years of age. Times you come across a real prick and total disrespect. Don’t bother responding, been enuff lines crossed around here.

Regardless of age, respect should be given both ways. In this instance there was lack of respect on the outset for someone that has worked hard their entire life for what he has. It was callously assumed he was a pompous asshole because he bought himself a nice boat.

Where is the respect there? Not 1 person in Havasu wakes up in the morning wanting to ruin Taboma’s day. The entire premise he presented today is the height of hypocrisy.

I love how every topic here gets argued to death.

As for SCFW, I totally agree with DS not helping them. You want to go to an event in Havasu? Then go to DS. You want to have your own event a week before? 🖕🏾

Dock space? Really? Pull your fucking boats out like the rest of us do every day. 🙄. What a bunch of primadona bitches.

I've got ZERO dog in the hunt . . . but initially I thought it was nothing short of ridiculous running large high power boats which are more at home in the salt than on Lake Havasu. Sure makes for a 'small lake' when you're blowing 100+ mph for extended runs. But whatever, to each is own . . . my initial thoughts were, "Why the F- run there when you can stretch them out on Mead"???? . . . but I get it, Havasu is like a little 'arena', & more user friendly.
I see both sides, the 'Look at Me Crowd' likes to be front & center with all the eyeballs on them, . . . everything is near by, bars/ night-life, hotels, restaurants etc . . . . and the 'traditional' river rats are like 'enough is enough'.

Hopefully it all shakes-out and there can be some sort of middle-ground reached where no one is overly happy, and nobody is super pissed.
Seems to me, things could be a bit more 'consolidated', otherwise I could see an 'event' every other weekend during the prime times, and that would blow for all the locals and residents.

Just my $.02

This is what I always wonder! Idk how they keep these big money boats in the water with how many sketchy people there is in havasu. I will never leave my 96 230 eagle in the water overnight unless I’m sleeping in it while it’s beached.
Yes having this gigantic boats it’s got to be a bitch to launch them but your boat on the trailer is better then going to it to see it crashed, scratched, parts stolen or at the bottom of the Channel..

Havasu is nothing more than a miniature Orange County. Traffic, high prices and holier than than thou attitude. If it was that great, you guys wouldn’t be scrambling to head north to find real beaches. 😁

In which way is Peoria better --- because of the "New Look" ?
Is Havasu better now because of all the new "Cool Mega-Boats" or was it more cool back when you didn't have to hear somebody else's music preference, instead you could go up the gorge and listen to mud hens or an occasional burro while viewing the serenity one can only find in such an amazing environment.
I'm sorry, and I'm really glad you're enjoying your wealth and so kind to share it on display, but you'd favor many of us curmudgeons by simply thrilling the lucky folks on Lake Pleasant.
Now that I'd accept as being better.

I will do my best to endure the crowds and find pleasure whenever possible in their absence, but I will never accept what Havasu as become and continuing to "Evolve" into, as being better.
There's not one single thing better about it unless filling your bank account is all that matters.
You can certainly trust that I made my wealth contributing to the desecration of first my native Orange County and then continued it later in San Diego.
While filling my pockets with $$$ on one hand I was screaming for San Diego to wake the fuck up and just say NO, and of course the dollar screams louder, just as it has at Havasu.
So OK, sure there's a positive, a better if you will, we've traded what used to be an amazing lake, for a huge profit when we sell.
See I'm thinking positive now.

This isn’t the first thread that you’ve jumped into and done your damndest to create a bunch of unnecessary noise and then slowly, over multiple walk backs, try to unfuck your initial response.

You’re either willfully ignorant or intentionally lack tact or consideration. Neither of which is a productive form of communication.

In the post above you claim Steve is enjoying his wealth and sharing it on display. Fair enough, that’s a plausible assumption but, what if it’s that he’s a boating enthusiast to his core, has owned every size boat, small to large, and decided to share his two year long boat build on a platform, of all things, designed to share all things boats? Wild idea huh 🤷‍♂️

As we peel back the erratic ramblings you post in this thread you then take a snarky swipe at Steve’s perceived wealth. Then go on to talk about your own development of wealth while living in OC and then moving to SD and in your own words say, “filling my pockets with $$.”

You’re all over the place in thought and assumptions. How about when you purchased a home in Havasu? What about the people who were there long before you? You think they wanted you there? Is it likely they thought you were part of the problem and not the solution?

Take your sizzle chest bullshit elsewhere.

It’s a pompous position to take that you’re the all knowing of what made Havasu great. Don’t throw your shoulder out patting yourself on the back 👍

@Taboma

To add;

I live in Peoria AZ. I went to Thunderbird High School, not far from where I live now. My wife of 39 years also went to T-Bird. I'm a native and my wife is almost a native. I love where I live. Its far FAR different than the way it was back in the 70's, but I have evolved along with the city.

We grew up with small jet boats at Lake Pleasant, the old Lake Pleasant. We would day camp at a place called Dirty-Shirt. We could back in anywhere your vehicle could get you out of. It was, on weekends, boat to boat to boat for miles. It was a loud fun drunk-fest. @Instigator and I were friends then and we are still friends today, he lives about 300 yards from me. Lake Pleasant is different now, I'm different now. Point being, nothing stays the same. You need to accept that your not going to change it back and learn to embrace the change. If you don't, the hate will eat you alive.

Peoria is different. I could sit here and bitch about the fact I used to be able to go shoot doves, right about where my current home is. But, I have embraced the "new look" North Peoria, and absolutely love living here. I simply found other places to shoot. I like the new Lake Pleasant and only go there during the week because of all the reasons you state. I have adapted to change and accepted it for the better.

Just some food for thought.
We moved there last summer and like it.But agree about pleasant we go midweek in the summers and its nice.We take the 550 jet skis to cruise around on.I wouldnt let my daughter ride on the weekends.I will use the boat on the weekends usually sundays though.

Well you assholes sure fucked this thread up. 🤣
At least we can conclude that you can never have to many Poker Run type of events and the RDP majority are in favor with how Havasu and the whole "Scene" & "Vibe" has evolved.
Also very clear I'm outnumbered in respect to what makes Havasu Great and opinions voiced to the contrary on this forum are not welcome.
I'll try to stay in line like a good member and make sure I only step on the eggshells. 😇

OK, you don't agree, perhaps you'd care to point out in my post # 76 where I wrote anything derogatory about Steve or even his boat. Anything that warranted him inserting himself into my reply made to another member, by calling me a "Curmudgeon" and that I should move to Oklahoma if I didn't share his or apparently their vision of what makes Havasu Great.
Or was it subsequent to his name calling, when I didn't pay homage to him and his brethren big cat owners for making Havasu Great Again, in fact I probably insinuated just the opposite ? And no, I wasn't kidding.

everyone is entitled to their opinion. especially home owners here. If you look at the number of boating events this lake has its minimal. we are talking about 1-2 weeks a year that will boost the economy and boost the visibility of our little lake. I get that you loved it back in the day. I grew up on this lake in my youth. But i find it funny that you worry about traffic when you couldnt even get to the sandbar...couldnt get into copper canyon back in the day. let alone the craziness of spring break. Apparently you loved all that But desert storm and Supercatfest is a nuisance for you? Just seems a little off to most of us.......im all for safety on the lake but i get a real kick out o seeing these boats move at 100+....get rid of the lake lice and ill be happy :p

Steve has earned everything he and family enjoy. Obviously the best of everything. When you talk to Steve on phone about Hydraulics you understand the rewards of his business.

Taboma, same deal, electrical question or problem comes up around here he knows what he talking about. Always attempts to help. No question why he has done ok in the last 50 years.
Crazy when all you Type A’s cannot get along.

You can trust that although we were well entrenched with Havasu being the focus of our recreational activities by the mid 90's (Discounting the 70's and 80's being weekend visitors) we always made it a point to avoid Memorial, 4th of July and Labor Day weekends --- period, no exceptions. Spring Break is and was such a long duration event, avoiding it wasn't always possible. Since we have always avoided the blue-smoke filled Channel and preferred the vast openness or quiet of the lake's numerous nooks and crannies, Spring Break was pretty much a non-issue other than a few more kids partying it up in town.

I can't really say that Supercat fest, Desert Storm and Monster bash or ball or whatever it is are nuisances, because we simply avoid being there.
We always enjoyed the IJSBA World Championships, car and boat shows, so we try to catch them at least occasionally.

My response to you was more, OK enough, maybe it's time to close that gate and strive to protect what good still remains from Old Havasu, maybe it doesn't need more promoting, or even more big boat events. Of course I'm not writing from a business perspective, I'm sure I'd be whistling a different tune.

Havasu for us recreationally has been a great run and I admit, we're just spoiled. We don't expect Havasu to bend to our will, that's pure folly, the question is, can we learn to enjoy the current reality of Havasu, while carrying so many fond memories of what it once meant to us ?
If not, then what our the options ? Still looking 😁

I hear ya and for those who live here and have houses here understand that mid week boating is the best. I love both worlds. I love the crowds for people watching and love the emptiness of the lake on the weekday to enjoy by ourselves. We refuse to launch on big holidays as well. Its just to crazy but I think thats just about anywhere

If you are canceling a poker run because you can’t launch and retrieve your boat, I stand by my statement. Sorry not sorry.

So arent the boats not showing up for the first event the same exact boats that show up for DS?
School me here because I dont own a 40’ cat and never will unless my crypto goes to the moon!
So I show up to Havasu with my million dollar showpiece in tow. I have a spot reserved at let’s say the islander. Got my coach parked there and a second spot for my overflow.
There are no docks available until the next week because of a pissing match between organizers.
So…I launch my 40’ bad ass and drive around all day. Now I have to trailer it for the night…OK.
Where exactly can I safely park it?
Remember, there is a bunch of us in this same position. I’m not leaving my M41 at Walmart. I can’t park it on the street. Islander won’t let me stage it in the lanes because they don’t do that and there’s another dozen guys that want the same thing.

The point is that your “prima Donna’s” are the same exact boats in both events. All you are doing is calling them names for showing up a week early.
What am I missing here?

@was thatguy big money guys have houses or acesss to house that can store these things. Or store it at a shop?

There’s enough dcbs in havasu that if you had a m41 you can find a place and if you can’t I’m sure Tony could find you a place to keep it for the night.

You are sounding like @Taboma with how you are taking @Outdrive1 comment.

Or I just stay home in my hometown and leave my boat and my chest full of money right where it is until LOTO…being a dockless prima Donna and all…

Is it boating season yet? I'm ready for fun boating themed threads, enough of the pointless arguing...

Havasu isn't always packed with 40' Skaters.......
