This patent is for the mitered gears within a portal, and it appears be directed towards TT or Ultra4 stuff, they're already running portals, and these gears allow for some sort of CV angle that helps gain wheel travel.

This patent is not Speed UTV related, at least at this time it's not.

My car is getting picked up at the SSSS.. I’ll be in Georgia but Jake is taking my truck and enclosed to go get it.
Why an enclosed trailer Dave ?
Aren't you going to have Jake wrap it with RDP logos and banners, put it on a flat bed with ribbon's and flags and have a parade with pilot cars from OC to LHC with maybe a POPO escort when you hit Topock all the way into town :D

Copy that.

Maybe @Wizard29 knows about this thing then if it's Ultra4 related? 🤷‍♂️

I think this might be something he will be doing for his Ultra4 KOH rig. I wonder if he is building one or if he was going to buy the Gomez Brother's Ultra 4 he raced this year.

RG just went live from his new Facility, bunch of cars under plastic, including mine he showed.

Some new 33" tires, so they now have 32's, 33's, and 35's, and a bunch of other boxes he didn't get into.

New or rented building is 100,000sq/ft+

Also said, 55 folks are picking up cars at SSSS

He already runs portals on his TT so I would think this is of similar/same design just updated gears as DS2 said.

All the FAST AWD Trophy trucks are using portal boxes up front, unsprung weight or not. The top dog Masons are using them up front as well. Jesse Haines (JHF) has been building axles with H1 portal boxes at the end for years for Ultra 4 cars. Its a game changer in the rocks. Robby already runs portals on the front of his trophy truck as well.

They do add unsprung weight, but you also reduce the gear ratio at the hub so you dont have to run as big of axle shafts, ring and pinion, etc. Plus it keeps your pinion larger since you can run a higher ratio in the diff, and reduce it out at the wheel.

I used to have portals three off-road vehicles ago. it only did 58 miles an hour, but it held 10 people and went just about anywhere. Had lockers for either 2,3 or 4 Wheel Drive

Very common on U4 cars. I don't have them, but the increased ground clearance is a solid benefit. However, the extra weight and "something else to break" are potential downsides. One of those goes down and there's a real potential of a DNF.

I have seen them on a couple of golf carts too, but not sure how they perform. Maybe Robby is headed there with it for subsequent model years or options on the Speed cars. Seeing as that's not an offering by any other manufacturer and probably desirable by a lot of folks if not for any other reason than the cool factor, that's what I'd do.

Mason Motorsports has the set up down as you can see with all the wins their trucks are getting. I would think if those gears were desirable for the AWD TT Mason Motorsports would be using them.

That is a huge building. Must be exciting to actually see your Speed UTV stateside.

I wouldn't be surprised if they didn't start using them, and just paying a royalty or something to RG, they seem impressed by the design, there's also a couple other folks in there talking about the benefits.

I am not sure Mason and RG have the best of relationships. Mason has the Awd trophy trucks pretty dialed.

Mason comments a lot on Robby's stuff, always positive towards each other, I'd say they have a good relationship.
Check the comments on that IG post, they go back and forth.

I don’t envy anybody who has to try to pick up anything from the Sancho Saturday or Sunday nights🙈
I’ve bought things and helped multiple friends who are vendors and that shit can take hours! Make sure to have someone with the truck/trailer and another getting the car. Your best bet is to park a truck and trailer at OCC and drive the car out and across the street or go as late as possible to get a trailer into Orange county fairground lots. Remember: Orange cones don’t fight back and they are only like a suggestion for parking.👍🏻

I'm really hoping/praying they have something figured out, like wheeling them out the back by the Speedway or something.

Also hoping it's fairly quick, I'm going to be a little hung over from my sons baby shower, and I'm planning on heading directly to Golden Shores from the OC.

I would take what every time Speed is telling you it will take and add 30 days! 🤣🤣

I would plan on 2-3 hours of time to get your Speed car from the show and loaded up and on your way to Golden Shores. Hopefully they can meet with you earlier to go over everything so when the show ends you are only waiting to get your car loaded onto the trailer.

They told me about an hour to go over the car, sync my phone, learn how to change a belt, then a half hour for paperwork. I'm planning on doubling that time, at least.

Since I've never changed a belt, EVER, I gotta pay attention to that part, LOL.

Changing a belt is easy peasy. No big deal at all.

Digging all the shredded pieces of the old belt out of everywhere sucks azz.

Nice to see them potentially being delivered soon, I am waiting to see all the reviews and reliability reports from all the owners after a few weeks of rides.

Changing a belt is not a big deal. Smart they are showing customers how to do it.

I’m not gonna be there so I’m not sure how that’s going to work. Robby said the manual will be online by then though..

My hard pack crew has gone Years without changing belts.

The sand people? They keep multiple spares on hand at ALL times. 🙄
New belt every season, regardless of hours. oem

New washed and broken in brand new spare belt in a sealed food saver bag. oem

Two slightly used belts on board for friends, strangers who own a gayzer, and just in case. oem

Don't waste your money on non oem belts. fyi

Yea, sand.

Not sure if they will be back in town when I get my car.. but how complicated could it be? Lol

Hopefully easy enough to figure out the shifting so that my wife and friends can drive it and actually park on a hill.

Yeah, he needs to pull my car as well, I'm picking up at SSSS, I messaged Robby to let him know mine needed to be moved over as well.

I'm stoked to see this finally happen for you guys. 👍 I remember Todd had told you your car would be ready to pre-run for last year's b1K. You'll have a few months this year🤘

I was wondering about that too!

One of our guys told me he has 5 years on his belt. Hard pack only. Dove Springs, Spangler, Death Valley, etc...

Maybe he will change it this season? Or just go with, if it ain't broke, don't fix it theory! 😜

I have 3000 miles on my OG belt on my 2018 CanAm X3 max, all AZ hard pack miles and probably 500 of that on highway.
