If you’re looking for the family cruising and exploring type UTV you’re wasting your time if the Speed car is on your list.

Both Polaris and Can-Am have multiple product lines better suited for that type of riding. I could make a strong argument that both Honda and Kawasaki would be a great option as well. Not sure why they’re not more popular because they’re built extremely well. Kawasaki is supposed to be coming out with a four seater is the rumor. Turbo cars aren’t needed for that application.

If you’re looking for performance and pushing your skill set you’re now in the ProR, Speed and new Can-Am price points.

It’s a pretty incredible time for the consumer. There is just about any make or model targeted to any type of buyer if you’re not stuck on what the popular crowd says you need.
Yes, exactly BUT you left out Yamaha for the performance, we have a NA YXZ in our group and it fly's around mother G like it's on rails.
There's another group that (that are guy in the YXZ hangs with) there's a few Turboed Yamaha's YXZ with ("don't shoot me but I could be wrong") aftermarket (I know right) CanAm rear trailing arms that extend the wheelbase with an amazing suspension tune that runs flat out down Old's that jumps of the lip and lands 150' like butter. :D

If I hadn't put down a deposit on a El Diablo I'd have a turboed YXZ in my garage, I'm still on the fence about keeping it when it arrives, I'm not a Belt fan and really want a gearbox.

Speed needs to hurry up with the Speed key for the dune guys.

The Maverick R with a tune is stupid fast. EVO is working on tunes. Not sure what fuel they are running, but it walked away from the Shock therapy stock tune R.

My boss and a co-worker each took their speed car to Glamis over the weekend.

Boss couldn't get out of camp Thursday night due to car being in limp mode. They checked out the owners manual, and the light on the dash indicated low brake fluid..... Added 1/4" of fluid to reservoir and all was good, no more limp mode. Note that there was still lots of fluid in the reservoir, he was instructed by a person that works for speed that he has on speed dial/text to remove the white float thing in the reservoir as they have been having issues with that system (talk about solid after sale service!). He ran the speed 35" dirt tires. He said the car is a dog, and needs more tire to help flotation because of the weight (and needs more power). These things weigh in around 2600lbs, which is probably 400-500 lbs lighter than his sand car that has 800+hp and 36" sand paddles.... He said front suspension on his RG edition is magical, rear needs some help, bottoms out too easy. He let other folks drive his car all day Saturday throughout the dunes and at Olds, and they went through 1 belt.

Co worker has an LE, and did the Eibach upgrade right away. He thinks he is losing boost somehow, he is down on power compared to our boss's car. He does not like the eibach springs on his car. He said suspension is way better as a single occupant on the stock RG car, but with a 250lb passenger, his LE with eibachs felt OK, but still not as good as the stock car felt. Seems the eibachs are a bit too tall/long and he's out of shock body on the pre-load adjusters to lower the car any further. Not enough droop in the shocks with just the driver when running the eibachs.

Like we experienced in Sand Hollow a month ago, it appears Robby found out that his wheel tire combo sucks at low pressure as he posted on IG two flat fronts on the bandit he took to Glamis over the weekend when running 8 psi.

Neither my boss or coworker were running windshields, neither had issues with operating temp. Both cars went through 1 belt.

Did they change the belt due to shredding or to be more cautious

Changed because they needed to. Don't know if I would call it shredding, but the belts broke. Boss wasn't running a cover on his car and said it was 5 mins to put a new one on, very easy. The kid driving the car at olds that broke the belt walked back to their group and said he needed a tow, and my boss was like F-you, I don't want pics of my speed car on a strap! Not the kids fault for breaking it, he knows how to drive, but he was hot lapping it up and down the hill and I think just put too much heat to it.

The current crop of sport UTVs do not have issues with the subframe. I have not seen Polaris have issues since they moved to the XP Pro and Pro R. Can Am slowly addressed some issues over the years with the X3 by adding some tubing and thickening the material in some areas. The new Maverick R frame is much more substantial and addresses the short comings of the X3 frame.

I had a friend launch his 4 seat Pro R off a 20' dune when he was doing at least 50mph. He was running during a shitty part of the day when the sun makes everything look flat. His Pro R frame was completely fine other than the lower front arm mounting tabs. He broke the front arm off the car and got himself a helicopter ride due to breaking his back. He had surgery and is fine now.

For recreational use they will all hold up just fine for 98% of the owners. People act like somehow the other manufactures cars are going to fall apart the minute they come off the trailer.

Design wise the Speed UTV is amazing. How it holds up in the long run is to be determined.

I'm not saying they are going to fall apart when they get off the trailer.. I'm saying if ya wad one bad enough you are gonna want the bottom to match the top.. Currently the only stock one that does that is Speed.

In all the videos that I have seen online at Glamis from over the weekend it sounded like the rpm's were WAY LOW when they were driving.. I'm not sure what would cause that, but mine sounds like it's screaming when it's on the boost.. These sounded like they never got in the power band. I'd almost wonder if they would have tried the same hills in a lower gear if it would've been better?

I'm not sure what's causing a low boost situation.. If that's an eco deal or a mechanical deal.

Sure but for the same reason i refuse to even drink one beer and drive is becsue you can do EVERYTHING RIGHT and still end up in a really bad crash. As my mom always told me when you come up with a plan, life happens. Take Pistol Pete 02. How hard was he riding when killed in sxs?
I'm pretty sure I he was parked and got T boned

I think with the new Can Am and Polaris Pro R they have the bottom covered pretty good. It is the top that needs the help. LOL!

Pistol was not parked, he was driving across the top of the sand area at San Felipe by town on the south end and some idiot came flying up the side of the dunes there and T-Boned him.
Doing everything right and still ended up in a bad wreck was my point.

I don’t have anything really poor to say about the Yamaha except the average consumer doesn’t want to shift all day. They can barely drive a belt car. The weekend warrior only seems to be able to stab the throttle off and on all day in the dunes lol

My only experience with the YXZ was a stock one and the power was okay but suspension needs a lot of work. Fun cars if you only need a two seater.

So question, no one has the speed key yet. That was a huge huge selling points for several people.

Those of you you have a speed car in hand what is speed telling you? I know Nick has had his car for 6 months now and still no speed key. At what point do you sue and or complain against speed for not releasing it.

I ask because it’s apparent these are way down on power compared to other sxs. Dyno has proven that more than once.

This mostly applies to Glamis folks

the reality is the speed key was a $1 addon - what do you even sue for? $1?

False advertising. Even at $1.00 people bought the speed sxs cause it could be 300 hp.

What about those who paid 1500-2500 for the key?

Having mine out here in havasu this god damn thing is fast as shit already.. I am more worried about the stopping then the going. lol

I’m not a sand guy. If I was more into sand I’d be anxiously awaiting the extra hp..

I can tell you from the vids I have seen (the bad ones anyways). I’m wondering if they have too many or too large of paddles because the rpm’s seem way down.

I don’t think I’d have any trouble driving this far in the sand. I don’t think it would be a rocket because of the weight but it would be faster than my old can am..

That what I meant. Thought they might use your commentary. I’ll check your updates when not in the car.

Right now we’ll have the night portion from Loreto to San Ignacio and then hop back in somewhere south of San Felipe in the Larry Janesky #1914 Honda.

I didn’t see any either when I last checked this morning. Pretty sure today was the last day for co-drivers to sign up. If any Speeds registered I would think we would’ve seen them by now.

The ones with paddles I have seen do not look over paddled. If the cars are not getting boost it would explain them struggling to get around the dunes as the hp is down significantly.

I doubt your Speed UTV in the sand will be faster then your old Can Am. The X3 does extremely well in the dunes and weighs a lot less.

Is this the Vid you're talking about?

This must the one, it sounds way down on RPM's and not hitting any Rev limiter climbing the hill.

I had a turbo rr, but it had a lot of shit on it so it was probably as heavy as my speed car.. LOL. It did "ok" in the sand, but wasn't super impressive other than the bigger suspension from previous cars.

The Polaris's always seemed to run pretty good in the sand for me..

Should note I don't run or buy paddles. I just lower the tire pressure in the dirt tires.

Todd (EVO) was running the car on E85 this weekend. Power is up substantially over stock. They are still in beta with the initial Maverick R development, but things are coming along nicely with it. What I can say is expect 300hp+ wheel HP on tune only and E85.

Dirt tires suck in the sand other than Big Horns.

The Rotax motor has a lot of potential for big hp and with the DCT it gets to the wheels more efficiently.
