Are there food vendors there besides pizza and tacos and if so, are they ridiculously expensive? I'll be bringing some food but trying to figure out how much to bring.

Is there going to be an RDP inmate meet up?

I have a portable solar panel that I want to hook up to a battery in the van to power my 12V cooler fridge. I usually just place it on the ground in the sun. Do I have to worry about someone stealing it? If so I'll try to stick it on the roof of the van.
Our group had the following schedule.
One of my responsibilities was food coordination (Camp chef).
  • Breakfast @ camp or in transit to pit area. I would normally make breakfast burritos before leaving home and heat them up in the morning or on drive (have an engine bay food warmer in Jeep)
  • Lunch - sandwiches if in pits out on course. If in the Hammertown pit - we ate at a vendor. One of the class 11 cars we supported was sponsored by La Bufedora . Tacos were good, but get old quickly. We had 1 buy, 1 get free with them. Still averaged $20 per person.
  • Dinner - BBQ at camp
We were never in Hammetown after the sun went down, usually too worn out. Only time we were in town was for the class 11 night race.

The weather is perfect 🤩 It might rain Monday which would be awesome.
After examining close up, I’ve decided this is not for me😄 Saw at least 6 girls make it up the first hills💪🏻

There will be vendors inside and around hammertown. That being said let’s assume there are no resources on the lake bed, any resources are approximately 10 miles one direction and 20 miles the other direction. With lake bed traffic getting on and off the lake bed in a highway vehicle will take you an hour. I’d suggest packing in all resources you will require and then as a splurge using vendor resources when near by or making an event out of it.

The forty is a pretty cool public meeting spot, beers, music, food, fires etc… I’d suggest meeting up there as it’s about as easy a place to find as there is. Sounds like there will be 5 jumbo screens spread around the desert for spectating. Taking a chair into hammer town to watch the big screen has been a cool experience in the past. Wheeling out to various locations to watch racing is also cool, there are multiple spots in a 2 mile radius as well there is 90 miles of racecourse and open desert (150’ off race course and military base excluded)

I’m down to meet up somewhere and sometime, I’ll be commuting back and forth for work and other things as needed, my schedule is fluid and can change at a moments notice right now so I’m not committing to really anything out there this year other than enjoying myself and company when I’m able to be present.

I was just doing prep work on my SxS for the trip but got thinking about the cold, wind, dust, etc. and that in my advanced age 🤣 I just prefer to be comfortable. I was going to order a windshield and side curtains but I don't think they will arrive in time. I moved my Jeep out of the shop for more room to work on the YXZ and remembered I have a tow bar for it and started thinking maybe I should just tow that down behind my van.

It is obviously not as capable off road as the SxS and I wouldn't take it on the harder trails but I don't know what to expect down there and what I'll be doing. I'll be camping with a buddy that has a hard core TJ so I could always jump in with him for hard stuff. I'm thinking I'll just be cruising around in my Jeep to check stuff out.

The Jeep will be way more comfortable and has protection from the elements. I can also keep stuff locked up inside if I want to wander around on foot. The Jeep is also licensed so if I want to go somewhere on the regular roads I can. The SxS came with a CA off road sticker but it is now expired. I sent in for the NV sticker but I don't know if it will arrive in time so that is another factor. I don't know if rangers will be running around checking for stickers.

What do you guys think would be the better rig to take?

That jeep will go anywhere you need to go to spectate. Is just going to get really dirty, inside and out. I can still smell last year's dust in the vents. I take my jeep for the same reason. Heat if it's cold, and AC if it's hot.

CPG that jeep is perfect for cruising around .

We tow our obs bronco out
It’s very capable of most terrain
But it’s more to keep the wife comfortable cruising around .

Well it ended up raining most of the afternoon. Not hard at any point but enough that the lake bed is all mud. Watched Supercross and some ufc at the forty for dinner. I’m looking forward to watching the king of the motos race starting going up chocolate thunder in the morning.

It’s pouring out here currently… Bring your mud boots…🤣🤣🤣
Was texting with Whiteworks...he sent me a copy of a mass email advising folks enroute tonight to camp off site someplace..like Barstow or other town.. til tomorrow due to flooding and general nastiness.

Damn rain, I put two new coats of poly on the tables out there last weekend, it was cooling down so I held off on 3rd coat. I left the poly out there and my buddy put the final coat on the following day, two hours later it rain and all 3 coats flashed🤣

Es la vida

A few years back hammer town was half mud pit when we pulled in, we didn’t even bother to unload in there, Josh hooked the team up and hosted us on the high ground. It took a few days for hammer town to dry out but it was a dusty mess out there by race week.

Good to know. I love the thing and have had it for a while. I use it for general running around and mild off roading up here. Not likely to sell it.

I’m gonna vote for Jeep, it could be a wet KOH and if so you will be very happy about that choice. Then again it could be shorts and t shirts. Johnson valley, you don’t like the weather wait 30 minutes 😂

Looks like we will be out there 2/3, the final day, and will hit the usual hot spots. Back door, Chocolate Thunder, and whatever is around the corner from there.

Is that Hottingers down in Chino? I’m aware of it, but never been!

Kids and I wound up rolling out to JV Saturday to try to catch some of King of the Motos as a quick day trip. Lots of rain, only minimal mud at that point.

Cafe 247 for burgers, then pushed on!

Guys at Lasertown were cool enough to let us come through so the kids could see the place!

Will need to make another trip out when weathers better and we have more time.

Whiteworks compound is still on our to-visit list! :)

KOH prep is underway, first and most important stop was by my local butcher shop to load up on all the good stuff, tri tips, ribs, asada, brats etc….

Nothing like killer food in the desert. View attachment 1325587 View attachment 1325589

Towing into the camping areas ground conditions is our concern. Has it dried enough?

Rolling south this morning. Looks like it will be rain and possibly fog for a good stretch of it.
Not my favorite.

I should be rolling out today to support the VETTS Motorsports group.
They are running pits for any VETS that requested pit support for KOH.

BUT, daughter has Friday off for semester break, so our annual Mammoth trips begins tomorrow at 2pm.

The high ground around means dry lake bed will be fine, the lower ground where it’s muddy will take a bit to dry out and if it rains again next week should prove to make things interesting for sure.

When and where are you trying to be?

On the bright side a good mud fest will another level to the entertainment factor of people watching 😂
