I gotta finish prepping the RZR tonight, Moho tomorrow, then we are rolling out Friday. Probably going to stay somewhere halfway friday night (flag/williams), then we will be out on the lakebed Mid-day saturday.

The high ground around means dry lake bed will be fine, the lower ground where it’s muddy will take a bit to dry out and if it rains again next week should prove to make things interesting for sure.

When and where are you trying to be?

On the bright side a good mud fest will another level to the entertainment factor of people watching 😂
Looking for hardpack to roll our big pig over & avoid getting stuck in the mud and to camp on away from possible dust and our generator running all night long, though quiet, doesn't bother anyone.

Arriving during the day will be very beneficial if you don’t have a crew out there already set up. Cross the bridge and head off to the left somewhere between the bridge and hammertown. Hammer town and out past it to the right is lower ground, I would stay clear of there. If there is no more rain it will all dry out in a few days and be dusty every where over in that area of there is no breeze. Lots of neighbor hater generators running out there around the clock. We try not to run them up at our place unless we need them as there is no other noise around.

Last time I stayed in hammer town at our pit/garage Currie was set up next to us and brought in catering that ran the loudest pos shit generator 24/7, never again.

What is law enforcement like there, say compared to Glamis on a big weekend?
no comparison at all. glamis 50x worse. I will easily go all weekend without seeing an officer if I stay off the lake bed. JV does not have police patrol ever other than koh so they don’t really have action plans or experience in the area for the majority. LEOs only come to jv if someone is injured. Very reactive vs proactive. there is a lot of police presence around Hammer town (not in hammertown) and lakebed but very minimal actually out in the desert. They have very few off-road vehicles. interestingly if you look on the BLM website it says flags are required on off-road vehicles Specifically in Johnson Valley but very few people have them and I have never seen or heard of it being enforced.

forecast is mid to high 60s. Possible rain on Thursday. Now thinking about taking the YXZ again instead of the Jeep. The Yamaha would be way more fun. Jeep more practical.

Smashing Muffins aka Smashing Pumpkins cover band was about as bad as it gets. This is at “the outpost” which is Dave Cole’s personal property and side hustle. They have a full bar and a good menu and the tent with a floor is nice, no dust

Is there somewhere to keep up to speed with results and what is happening other than the live feed? My ONLY complaint about observing KOH from afar is i can never seem to find an official play by play on social media, have always had to tune in to live show to try and get results or second hand info on other social media posts. Hope everyone is safe and has fun!

Got a sick dog and ended up being stranded at home, watching the qualifying and class 11 rush right now.

Watching right now and saw the crew hammering on the(1825 car) new Can Am rear end …crazy it would take happening to remove rear suspension. And it didn’t even look like they got the links off…maybe a larger hammer is needed.

Apparently there is a bus racing class this year. The OC cowboys are here, but they migration is in full effect and the real cowboys are arriving by the hundreds everyday. At chocolate thunder the other night some dude threw a beer can at this chick that was driving a buggy on the rocks, she hopped out, marched up and grabbed the dude, they tumbled down a little ways and then she unloaded on him and beat the tar out of him for a bit, she began to walk a way and he was talking shit, she then turned around marched up to him and let loose with a single hay maker and laid out the OC cowboy like a sack of potatoes, the place erupted with cheering. I’m guessing barrel racer, she wuddnt Fuckin around😂 If a chick out here has a dip can ring on her jeans, best be polite and call her mam or you might be spitting out some teeth.

It’s been nice to visit with friends from around the country, this thing never disappoints. Ive backed off of all race duty’s this year, but our co driver is now the driver and car 100 (Maui Offroad) will be running qualifying on Wednesday morning, hoping they have a solid run. It’s nice not having any real responsibility out here. Been hanging with FBT and his lovely wife Cindy showing them around and enjoying good company.

Thursday is supposed to bring some weather, I’m guessing since last week brought wet shit from the sky to JV, that we will see that same pattern role through again this week. I have a meeting in Santa Monica on Thursday night, so I’m gonna get out of dodge for about 36 hours and let things run there course out here. The earth is still saturated, it will get nasty for a bit if significant water comes here Thursday. Well not hear where we are, we’re high ground, but those folks camped on the low ground of lakebed are gonna be in for a treat with that gorilla snot mud. That stuff is napalm sticky mike nothing you’ve ever seen. I’d expect the OC cowboys to take one on the chin again should we have a significant weather event roll in.

I’m just watching the wheels go round and round and sneaking off to the soft serve ice cream spot when I can

WW is one heck of a "concierge " for KOH. We are really enjoying this experience and I suspect this won't be the last time we make the journey to Johnson Valley. We've made some new friends here....and got a much needed dose of vitamin D.
You have to experience this to understand how big it is. If you are an off road type or enjoy racing..ya gotta see it.
And..as Dylan said...the people watching is a whole 'nother deal.
Today we want to go get swag for the grandkids etc...

The weather forecast has us thinking of going Wednesday instead of Saturday if there will be any action. Would we see anyone going thru chocolate thunder or back door on a qualifying day?

Qualifying is today, tomorrow and Wednesday. As I understand, basically clockwise around the hill adjacent to hammertown. Down resolution and down backdoor through a bypass then into the short course.

Guess I was wrong about the qualifying lap, this is the longest qualifier I have seen in the past 5 years. Good to see Dave add some punishment, wonder if it will change at all for Everyman and the 4400s.

Same 3.5 mile qualifying lap for all classes

I have been waiting to see someone hit it, Chaney is crazy and owns this place in that Canned Ham. Was amazed a couple of years ago of his finish in the 4400s. Here is Max G's POV qualifying lap, he was doing well before blowing the rear tire.

So you are saying with like $65k-$70k I could really go out there and do something? 😄

That was impressive.
I'm past my prime in a race car, and I would never have beat a vehicle like a $2 whore on nickel night. However, my car was showing its age last weekend, pushing 6000 miles, and today's viral internet posts made me look. No doubt you gotta toss another pile of cash for all the accessories. If you are suggesting Speed, I am not a hater, but I'm also not an early adopter. I love the concept; I just don't trust the manufacturing process yet. Few new products roll off the assembly line with an excellent first-pass yield rate. It is a colossal undertaking. The Bandit looks attractive to me, but are they taking orders for 2028? I can go down to Anderson tomorrow; they have 3 Maverick Rs sitting in the parking lot.

I'm all talk; I'll be rolling my old car until it fails.

I’m suggesting exactly what you said in your last sentence.. the best car is the dialed in one you already have :). Run it until the wheels fall off. Then weld them back on.

I saw those 3 Maverick Rs Saturday. I think I’d get the cheapest one and save $10k since you are gonna have to upgrade a lot anyway. And all the electronics and drive modes seem like almost too many options.

As far as Speed, they are finally getting there. If they keep improving at the rate they have been improving the last 4 months, cars will be consistently about as good as everybody else in the class within a year.

I’m not saying all the new cares aren’t good.. we have a group of well prepped cars from new modded $65k Pro Rs, Turbo R and S, modded Can Ams and down to my car.. and for the most part everyone runs pretty tight most of the time.

The SXS game is strong these days, the cars have come so far so fast, I can only imagine what we will see in 5 years from now. We have a few cutting edge factory cars in our group, the Pro R cars showed up very early on in production ruin, both launch edition cars. The pro r cars have been flawless for two seasons now. I’m a fanboy for sure. The speed car has 400 miles on it now, however the owner beats it like it owes him money, and has legit offroad racing pedigree behind the wheel. He’s pumped on the speed car. Monday night was sleepy, however I rallied out for dinner at a buddies place and ended up lining up the sale of two 4400 cars and the start of new race program, that being said no wives were present at the campfire session, so there may or may not be some selling that the boys need to do on the home front 😂

Point being is that race business happens when you least expect it and things develop quickly.

Great show! She hopped out of the blue yoda and got involved after the first tumble but yeah good description. That second punch she threw 👌🏻 please note, she never dropped her drink out of her left hand💪🏻

My wife and I were laughing last night watching that. That's how our daughter used to roll before she got all domesticated and motherly. That Gal is pro-level; she did not even need to say hold my beer, watch this. Smokey, you just got knocked the Fuk out!

Now if a woman is willing to throw a punch is it ok for her to take one? I’d hope not but I don’t think everyone plays by the same rules and things could get ugly in the wrong crowd.

I watched some 4400 qualifying today, the cars look expensive but don’t seem to go any faster than the expensive SXS’s. What’s the difference in a competitive car in both classes, which class has a deeper field, and which class outruns the other?

So are you saying golf cars are fast or purpose built race cars are slow?
