So I got pulled over by CHP on a city street in La Verne for No front plate, tinted windows and smoked tail lights. I don't want to fix my windows. However I'll go put the front plate and stock lights on for a day to get signed off. How much am I looking to pay?

sincerely,
Another pissed off Californian.

Not letting people like yourself get away with braking the law makes me furious with the CHP.

Sounds to me that you're well aware of the law. So instead of ignoring them why don't you follow them so you don't have to deal with these "BS violations"?

It's BS that we can't put a personalized custom touch to our vehicles! Just another way for them to get money from us. Car custimization has been around for so long. It doesnt hurt ANYONE at all, but they take the time from doing something more important to give us tickets for them!

What good does a front plate do? none. they dont pull you over by parking in front of you, and they cant read it quick enough to type it in when there coming headon:headscratch:

I understand some tinted taillights, they are way to dark to see them light up even at night.

Tinted windows are BS too. they save your interior, and they can still see in. There cars are tinted, damn hypocrits. Period.
I got my windows tinted @ Mikes Tint Shop in Orange 4 years ago. I paid $170 for just my front two windows, but that included a lifetime replacement, AND fixit ticket removal and install. awesome

too much back and forth going on in this thread, I couldnt read it all the way through.

Just curious, why do people think it is their natural right to operate a vehicle? Last I checked it was a privilege. If you dont like the laws, then maybe you should walk, or maybe think about moving to a state that has laws that you 'like'. Why take to the internet and bash someone for doing their job. Probably the same people that complain when they dont do their job.

I once read an article where a CHP officer pulled a car over for no front license plate, upon further inspection the officer recovered a few million dollars (street value) worth of marijuana in the car. Soo, something as simple as no front license plate help put a drug trafficker into jail, and kept the mairjuana off the streets. Thats a good thing in my eyes.

His point is simple. Tinted windows and no front plate are chicken shit tickets. There are plenty of other tickets to write that would actually generate revenue for the state.

Right, but you can bitch about it. If you're not running tint on your vehicle, that's your choice. I prefer not to have the sun baking me while I drive.
I'd bet most people on here that have tint and have gotten a ticket feel the same way, but they choose not to express their opinion on here.

I would have zero issues with getting a window tint or front plate ticket if there wasn't such a double standard from those who write them.
I have no less then 7 neighbors(within 10 houses each direction) who are LEO of some sort (no chp). Going off the top of my head, out of all their cars i would say 2 or 3 cars don't have tinted windows and half don't have a front plate.

Why do so many people jump to the conclusion their opinion is widely held but nobody wants to speak up? :D

I'm just going to tell you straight out, this is an age issue. 20 year olds are going to be outraged at the idea of a tint ticket while grumpy old bastards, like myself, are going to wonder when you punks are going to start obeying the law, getting haircuts, and getting jobs.

As a young chap myself I have to disagree. I understand the laws and follow them. If I do break a law, I'm not outraged when I have to suffer the consequences. So I think it is less of an age issue and more about understanding the circumstances and not being a dumbass.

I haven't read anyone suggesting these are great laws.

What I hear is that LEOs job is to enforce the laws, not question them. A LEO gives you a ticket for a BS law and you blame the LEO. Why don't you blame the political process that put the law into place? After all, by your definition the LEO did it right and the law makers did it wrong.

This is why I think more people should get into politics. I've been blasted for saying this tons of times but you don't have to run for presidential nomination of a major party. Try showing up to a city counsel meeting, or spend an afternoon at your state legislature. It's an education well worth the price of your time. It will help you understand how and why BS laws get on the books and how easy it is to change a law.

I know a bunch of you think getting a city counsel seat or a state legislature seat is like winning the lottery but the jack wagons in place now got there somehow. Even if you don't run for office, it's not that hard to get some grass roots support, create a petition, and get an audience with a legislator. How many car clubs would sign a no front plate petition? I'm thinking every single member of every single one.... even the LEOs.

Seriously, governance is part of our lives. It's not something to be hated, even though it isn't always run the way we wish.

Most agree that CA's front lic plate and tint laws are BS. Nonetheless those who choose to break these laws are subject to cites/fines. It's a known fact.

Fix it tickets now are $25 each last I had heard. To not remove the tint and pay the fine is going to cost you over $100

You can't just not remove the window tint and pay the fine. You will have to remove the tint.

If I was a cop I would be putting some value and pride in "taking an oath to uphold" and I surely would be offended if a civilian suggested that I compromise that oath. I don't think this is a matter of these mentioned laws being "BS" because most will agree that these are frivolous laws. What amazes me is that the laws are on the books, and some are advocating "violating the law". Period. If it's OK for the cops to pick and choose then I guess it's OK for the president to pick and choose what laws he follows. If I expect the government to follow laws, not following them myself would make me a hypocrite.
You can always petition legislation to add remove laws. Your just not going to get the supporters that you expect to abolish these ridiculous laws. It's too late. Just obey the law.

what funny is, let a cop get shot and killed by someone with blacked out windows and see what happens. The same guys screaming bullshit tickets will be in a major uproar over that happening. You bitch on one side, then when something happens to a cop you bitch. The law is the law, i have blacked out windows and if i get a ticket i will pay and be done with it.

Just wear dark color clothes, shades, try not to smile and nobody will notice the window tint.

IMHO-CHP are the black sheep of LEOs. The agency is not respected by Cops or Firefighters that do risk life. CHP doesn't provide medical aid, they call FD and become no more than crossing gaurds at Highway accidents..

After working 20 years in EMS, it is obvious you have no idea what you are taking about.....what a stupid, brainless comment!

The governemt doesnt follow laws. Dont tell me your not one of those people that think the government is a Holy Organization.

Our Tresury Secretary Timothy Geithner doesn't even pay taxes.

Or how about the cop in Fullerton being charged with murder?

Or how about the Cop from San Bernadino that pulled his gun out on a tow truck driver because he was "in his way"

Or how about the cop in Apple Valley 2 years ago that was charged with raping a minor.
I can list examples for days.

....."taking an oath to uphold"...yea fuckin right!:blah:

And your comment about just obey the laws because its too late to change them. Fuck dude, your an idiot. If thats the case with our healthcare and environmental system we are defiantly fucked as a country. You must pussy, too afraid to stand up for what you believe in.

Not directed at all leo. but come on seriously, they are the biggest hypocrites around. they ticket you for the exact same thing they do but aren't held accountable... both when on and off duty.

Psssssst....

Couple things I think some of you have forgotten:

Front Window Tint: Legal in Cali up to a certain point. You don't have to go limo to block everything out. You might have to spend a little more for a higher quality tint, but it can be legal and just as affective non the less.

Front License Plate: Contrary to what some on here believe, yes we do read and enter them coming at us on the road. Aside from manually entering the plate, a lot of agency have camera's on top of the cars the read plates all day long automatically as they drive around. Like stated already, the importance of being able to identify a vehicle from front of back is rarely understood unless you consider investigating crimes and utilizing cameras from different angles.

Ok, sorry to interupt the hypocrite bashing... carry on:D

The CHP Officer out in the dessert is an EMS as well. Came across a bad roll over on Rice Rd a while back. CHP shows up and tells me to get the Medical bag out of his trunk. He was a rolling ambulance with all the medical equipment in there. :thumbsup

Here on the CHP website it says NO tint on front windows

http://www.chp.ca.gov/html/answers.html

Real life enforcement and court rulings might not always follow exactally what the CHP FAQ sheet states. Here are 2 links which both specify the amount. Most tint shops know this and will advise you of what is considered legal when you call or go in for tint.

The standard for the court rooms I have been in follow what's stated below.

Express and cryin about this is funny, yes i do have tinted windows, they are of medium tint and have never had a ticket with that shade yet, been questioned but no ticket, but if i do get one i would pay for the fine and remove it without crying on the board looking for some sort of support for going something wrong
