When all of AZ was area code 602?
Party lines, plenty of fights started on those.

Tonka Toy trucks...the big metal ones.

I had a shitload of those for awhile. Drove my mom nuts leaving them all over the house lol. Along with about 6 combined sets of Lincoln Logs.

blowjobs.... :grumble:

Fortunately not historical here...
Maybe you should buy here some flowers and give her a little Semper Fi shout out... :p

Gas stations gave away steak knifes, spice racks and Hotwheels with fill ups.:thumbsup

I have a complete set of Raiders glasses from Mobil from when Raiders were in LA. Still use em as second set backups. Its funny, gf won't drink out of em, she hates the frickin Raiders lol. Raiders were one of my favorite teams way back when. The Lamonica, Blanda, Stabler, Billetnakohf (sp?) eras. There was a period in my life where I watched football all weekend. All 4 network games (before cable or sat). Now I probably don't watch 4 games a season. :rolleyes

Man, this thread is a walk down memory lane...

The Beatles on Ed Sullivan (b/w)

I think I saw every time they were on. I remember when they first came on the scene in U.S. I went down to the local variety store in Glendora (Bocks) and bought the first 45. I wanna hold your hand on one side, She loves you on the other as I recall. Played that thing right down to scratchyness. I have all the Beatles LP's and many singles up until the Sargent Pepper era, kind of lost interest in them at that point in favor of 70's classic rock stuff.

When I was growing up we used the Alpha callout, I remember our original phone number was ED-5-2039. And we had the old black desktop dial phones with the number label in the center of the dial. You dial wrong... you start over... and wait wait wait :swear

Pacific Coast Baseball League - Los Angeles Angels, Hollywood Stars, San Diego Padres and the San Francisco Seals were a few of the teams. Chuck Conners of "Rifleman" fame played on the LA Angels. Big Steve Bilko was their heavy hitter.

Los Angeles Angels played at Wrigley Field in South Central LA. The Hollywood Stars played at Gilmore Stadium near the Pan Pacific Auditorium.

World Football League - Southern California Sun football team based out of Anaheim Stadium in the mid 70's.

This was the 1st football team to play at Anaheim before the Rams landed there in 1980 and gone in 1994.

There was as semi-pro team called the "Orange County Rhinos" long before the Rams. Not sure where in OC they played their games. But, they were on local LA TV.

There was a "first" Ascot, (before So LA), way out in El Soreto (sp) back in the 20-30s, and also a dirt race track at Gilmore stadium near La Brea and Fairfax.... Many of the early Indy racers got there start in sunny So Cal at these "year round" race venues..... Also, a dirt track at Washington Blvd and Lincoln Blvd in what is now Marina Del Rey, and Marina Del Rey was a dairy farm owned by the Edgemar family... Home delivery milk.......AND "Hoppieland", a stable with rental horses etc etc owned by the Willettes.... Roy Willette moved that operation to Elsinore when the lake was DRY....

I just barely remember watching these guys on TV with my Dad (probably KTLA Ch 5). Recall they weren't all that good. And some were obviously in pretty poor physical condition, lots of "beer guts". Sort of the "Demolition Derby" of football.

Eagle Rock AC started back in 1948 thru 1971.

Used to go to the Junior Rose Bowl (in Pasadena) which featured the top two Jr College Teams...1946-1977...Pasadena Bowl

San Diego State was a JC by in '69...

I think the one on the right is Lou Reed

Yep, Lou Reed on the right. (Nice pull!)

The 3rd guy will be hard to guess unless you know a little about the recording industry in that era.

Wow really? :D

Hey, Dio wouldn't be a bad guess!
Kind of does look like him.
But the 3rd guy is Tony Defries.

He was Bowies crook of a manager, then started "Mainman", which was an "Artist management group".
Basically, he signed artists, paid them a weekly stipend, housed and fed them and paid all their expenses.
BUT, he also collected 100% of all the concert and album revenues.

It took until 1980 or so for Bowie to get out of the contract, and until that point he was literally penniless, even though he was one of the top selling recording artists.
This picture was taken the night that Lou Reed met with Bowie and Defries about joining Mainman.
It is said that this was the point where Reed declined, then advised Bowie that he was being robbed blind by Defries.

You can see the "stern" look on Reeds face, and the stunned disappointment on Bowies.

Of course, Iggy is just blasted as always!

Meaningless late night trivia!
