Getting it picked up in the A.M. Going to start stripping it down for a complete rebuild. I'll post pics as we go. Stay tuned. It's going to turn out bad ass.

Might have to have you do some trailer work on my rig

Paint. Lights and redesign the bunks and drive protection on the back. Bearings have been done and Dave is hooking me up with a missing matching rim

A lot of beer was consumed yesterday. Work will resume today. The plan is to have this in the powder coating shop no later than Tuesday. Hopefully Monday.

I've been around and around with the Daytona's, had Evinrude 4.0 V8, Seccond Effort Mods, was a bad ass, but was hard on the gear cases.

I removed it and went Merc 2004 280 15" ROS, the V8 was a bit faster, the Merc handled better lighter...

Now in my newer Daytona it came with a clean 260, heads, chip, flywheel, ext.. Best it did fully loaded was 82.

I changed out that engine for a New DBR 280 15" running 260 efi and 56# basically a 300+ hp bad ass engine, best was 96 light...

Same boat with a XS will do 105 all day long...

2.5 stuff is getting harder to get clean parts.
But they are great engines.

DBR Joe is building me a 300x to the max...will see when I get back and play with it, but I heard already it's a beast!!

Wow
My dream engine a DBR 300x

I enjoyed your post and have had similar results
With Daytonas

What I have also found that a Liberator, Cougar may look similar but the bottom is very different animal
Our 21 Cougar set up properly posted a 114 mph pass with a stock 2.5ss 280
My brother has Joe at DBR building a full tilt 300xs on a 15 mid and 2.5 sm lower to replace it
Sould be interesting the comparisons
I love the 2.5 motors explosive power !
But prefer the bigger slower spinning torque monsters for all day performance
Trying to get the best of both worlds

Got some pics from BUDMAN. Removed the stupid stopper bar, welding up holes, cleaning up rust.

Trailer still needs love. I'm not very happy with the way Competitive built this trailer. Image1464912322.079961.jpg Image1464912331.842969.jpg Image1464912340.259843.jpg Image1464912349.476304.jpg

Holly crap. Those are some horrible welds. Glad they are making it right.

Damn, that scares me now! I was thinking about sandblasting and powdercoating my competitive...but it might end up being way more work than that!!

Yeah I was planning on powder coating the Hallett trailer but after getting past the paint and filler I figured it was just time for nice coat of single stage and call it a day

To be honest. I wish I would have just painted it. I'm worried those welds will look like shit. But I know BUDMAN will take care of it and make it right and safe.

Agreed, this is turning out to be a great looking boat! I can't wait to see how she looks sanded and buffed! ;) Nice job to all who are involved!

Thank you Backlash. I get the trailer and boat back next Saturday the 11th. I'll take better pics with my camera and post them.

Next is powder coat and a new windshield. I still need to decide on the rub rail.
Powder coat mine?
New white plastic one?
New ss ones?

If you capped front and rear I'd say stainless. Either way, stainless will really pop the blues.

The plastic always looks cheaper than the others for whatever reason. Looks big and clunky. Mines anodized and fading, looks like shit. Most likely I'm going to cap the front & rear and then powder coat mine black.

Can't wait to see yours buffed and polished. I'm sure the rubrail decision will be a lot easier once they do.

I have the faded rub rail that came on it. I was just going to have it powder coated. I thought about capping the front and back but I'm already over my gel budget and didn't want to add another $1900.

I don't blame you. The costs add up fast. What color were you going to powder coat?

Think of it this way...in a year you won't remember the 1900...you're going to have it a long time...go half cap and stainless!

Yeah my brother had a trailer made by Competitive and it's horrible. Thing completely rusted in 5 years. Never in salt water once.

That's what I was thinking. I'm sure the end product will be worth the blown budget. Especially if he keeps it for years.

It's too late. It out of gel and being polished. I thought about doing it but didn't. Maybe it can be a winter project one year down the road. Right now I would just like to drive it.

If you aren't capping it and the old rubrail is in good shape, just faded..... I'd have the old one powder coated and new vinyl insert put in. I think it would look 1000x better than a white plastic one.

That's the way I'm leaning towards. I had 1 piece that was dented so I got a new 12 ft piece. I just need to have them powder coated.

I say white vinyl rub rail will separate the blue and make it pop, but you know I'm biased;) Looking good! Keep the updates coming.
