Dropped her off to get going on the gel. They said it would take 6-8 weeks. Time to built seats and get stuff powder coated.

Next winter we plan on either going 300xs or building this one to the hill!

300 xs all the way. Call DBR if you want more. As much as I love 2.5's they are all fine and dandy but, they don't charge worth a fuck, get shitty fuel milage, shitty driveablility around the docks/no wake zones, if you get 100 hrs of use you are lucky, good parts are getting scarce and expensive and unless your lucky the better half usually hates them.

Do they really get that much better mileage than a 300 pro max? I'd just think the little extra weight and loss of RPM range might make the Pro Max a better performer on a smaller tunnel like this.

300x has the most power, 300xs is a close 2nd. Pretty sure the xs makes more power than the Pro Max. I think the xs gets close to double the fuel economy in the midrange over the X though.

Depending on what lower you chose, I have a couple of awesome props for small shafts that I'll sell pretty reasonably. I've kept them thinking that I'll get another outboard, but who knows. At least I'll let someone try them out.

Really? Its not a drag, 100hrs of use? a 260 will do twice that. Driveability around docks? its not a bayliner, it is a performance boat.

How much does an XS cost? That pays for a lot of fuel and the 260s were not that bad on fuel. I personally do not have a care in the world about mileage in my toys.

I looked into a new 300xs. It's $23,000 rigged. Plus tax.

If you wanna go fast, on a budget, get an old V8. You can pick them up for a song and can get 400hp out of them by just doing basics. Not good economy, but you can buy a lot of gas for the money difference :D

I'm just going to build mine this winter. I just dropped a arm and leg to get the gel and seats done.

And you are throwing out numbers on the life span of a 260? An old V8 does not compare, they a POS out of the crate.

Obviously you have no idea about outboards.

LOL, Ok, I have never ever heard anyone say V8 OMC and reliable in the same sentence.

As far as other OMCs, I have had a 2 cyl 4hp, an 8hp, a 33hp, a 3cyl 75hp, a V4 110hp, a V6 150hp I might know a few things, that is just the OMCs.

Let me correct this.... I said nothing about 260s, I think they are probably the best motor ever made and will last a long time if treated right. I had one on a 25ft tunnel deck boat that got abused it's whole life and have no idea how many hours it had on it but probably 300ish. But I've also had a couple of V8s and would put them up against any motor made.

Just nearly spit out my drink :D.. Getting rid of our old V8 was one of the best things I ever did. Besides trying to find knowledgeable people for them & good parts getting harder & harder to find. Tuning them & getting them to run well at all speeds is a bitch. My vote 100% would be hold out and find a good used 300 Promax or X. Our X had 150 total hrs & only 49 hrs on a factory complete dressed powerhead. Paid 8900 + new wiring harness, gauges, etc. Best money I've ever spent on the boat. It's a merc, never misses a beat & never loads up with the EFI. Runs perfect around the docs & wide open. Only o/b I've owned that compares was a Yamaha.

Why don't you stick with that?

I might and just have it rebuilt. It's just really loud and I went this route over the jet boat because we have our first child on the way. So I'm still considering selling this one and going 300x or 300xs.

Have had this boat since 1995. Never even a hiccup. I'm the event there is a problem we do have a spare long block still in the factory crate for it. This is our second stoker with a v8. The first one was an al stoker built hot rod and was 400hp. That bastard was a little more finicky.

I thought about a Stoker. I just couldn't get away from the Daytona"s. It's been a dream of mine to own one. Never thought that I would have one.

I've been around and around with the Daytona's, had Evinrude 4.0 V8, Seccond Effort Mods, was a bad ass, but was hard on the gear cases.

I removed it and went Merc 2004 280 15" ROS, the V8 was a bit faster, the Merc handled better lighter...

Now in my newer Daytona it came with a clean 260, heads, chip, flywheel, ext.. Best it did fully loaded was 82.

I changed out that engine for a New DBR 280 15" running 260 efi and 56# basically a 300+ hp bad ass engine, best was 96 light...

Same boat with a XS will do 105 all day long...

2.5 stuff is getting harder to get clean parts.
But they are great engines.

DBR Joe is building me a 300x to the max...will see when I get back and play with it, but I heard already it's a beast!!

So is Joe A in Havasu one in the same with DBR or is he a license installer of DBR stuff? Joe is a talented guy, he rigged my GMT and it was a work of art. Love the 15" by the way, factory or cut down 20?

Yes, the same. Joe Abellera owns Havasu Hot Laps, has won the 300 Enduro at least twice and works with Dave Bush at DBR :thumbup:

Getting it picked up in the A.M. Going to start stripping it down for a complete rebuild. I'll post pics as we go. Stay tuned. It's going to turn out bad ass.
