As a general consumer of electricity I can see how it looks from the outside. On the other hand knowing some of the inner workings I can tell you your wrong. This debate could take pages to explain. This is not that venue for that discussion.
You will never convince me otherwise, we never had these issues until 6 years ago. Edison can go fuck themselves

They have requested cadaver dogs to search the areas. I wouldn’t be surprised if that number doesn’t go up
I was listening the communications from the link posted a few pages back yesterday....heard a call that 2 people were trapped in a house that was on fire, the boots on the ground responded that the whole neighborhood is a wall of fire and they can't get in to help. I think we're gonna see a lot more casualties.

Hey, Edison went on record admitting their fuck up, what they said was truth, what you are gonna try to convince me of will be a diversion, they admitted it.

Enjoy your day of causing misery to good people

This, or, as I experienced the other day, the water department shuts off the hydrant.
We went to refill with water after one of our many “fire type unknowns “ or bum fires, and the hydrant was dead. Turns out, the water department shut it off because the bums were stealing the water……fucking rad!

Unfortunately, I think you are right.

With people being cancelled from their insurance companies, I believe many will have stayed back to fight for their biggest asset. Terrible situation.

It will be many months before the final death toll is determined.
I have been involved in many fire ops and done many evacuation plans, both on the table top exercise and in real time where the fire is moving rapidly.
It is not uncommon for folks to wait too long. It is hard to walk away from a home knowing there is a strong chance it won't be there when you return.
It can go from we can get out to we are trapped in 2 minutes.
It is common for officials and politicians to try to deflect responsibility for catastrophic failures by using words like "unprecedented" , " historic", and phrases like "never been seen before, etc. Ad nauseum.
I can tell you that every multi-agency task force that sits down to plan and table top disasters like this works problems just like this, and they try to come up with a workable plan to mitigate the problem.
It doesn't take long, nor does not take a crystal ball to see where we don't have the people and stuff to do it right.
We put in for what we need. We make it clear if the worst happens and we dont have the tools to do the job bad things are going to happen..
And then the politicans and other "leaders" decide where to spend the money.
When it goes to hell in a hand basket, and disasters like this happen, the politicos do everything they can to put responsibility eleswhere. The Mayor is a classic example of this...the mayor the people elected.

It takes a wide awake populace to see the lies, and people have to personally feel the pain before the public will step up and make the change.
If this doesn't reach that level then I do not think anything will.

Haha, the description of that video is wildly wrong, but the content and what Joe stated in the video was eerily predictive and accurate. He said it again on a more recent podcast with Quentin Tarantino.

1:00 mark he says it again

The wind is picking back up here in oak Park.

I got my 38-year-old Honda 1400 watt generator out of storage and it fired up on the third pull. I haven't used it in 15 years.

For now the refrigerator and my wife's fish tank are happy I'll plug in the freezer after the refrigerator gets back to temperature and then alternate.

Most fridges and freezers use about 5-600 watts.
Might be able to run both and the tank with no issues. 🤷

Now the, transmitters and repeaters etc. on Mt. Wilson are under close threat.
I hope there are back up transmitters for all these systems.
I wonder how many of LA's fire and LE systems are going to crash.
So much vulnerabilty...

Thanks for providing my point👍
Did you bother to read it?

At the lowest point they were spending over 100 million dollars a year (a far cry from the 35 million you cried about), and replaced 4400 miles of conductor. No small task. While simultaneously ramping up wildfire mitigation programs. Hardly not doing anything.

Side note the bulk of infrastructure is typically pole replacements but does include other upgrades.

Also you mentioned your power never being off in the past, I'll address a small piece of that. Contractors are doing a large amount of the work, and they tend to de-energize things rather than doing it energized. It's faster, things that would takes days energized can be completed in hours.

Why hasn’t someone developed a self contained fireproof foam spray that a guy could wheel out of garage ,spray the house down , go in have 6 beers while fire passes then take your drunk ass outside and hose it off ???? We are a somewhat smart country full of resources. Even if it was 5-10k i would think many would purchase. 2-3 years to rebuild is all the motivation I would need to buy one. Im thinking some thing that looked like the airport fire extinguishers, big wheels big tank.

The chemicals in the foam are probably banned in California.

Just like me wanting to get my fire prep kit set up a little better this weekend... and realizing that I have to buy a fucking gas powered chainsaw in AZ 🤬

It exists. After our last big fire down here in San Diego our FD gave it our for free (the stuff is expensive to buy supposedly). It comes in a box and you hook a hose to it and soak your house with it. Supposedly cleanup is a bitch but better than the house burning. I still have the boxes they gave me. Not sure if it is still good.

Someone get a link or something to this?

I am not in the area, and its too late now. All that said, it could be a very worthwhile investment for many on here.

My wife told me she thinks the stuff we had was tossed in the trash (it was about 15 years old. After the 07 fires here). I will look in my sheds later to see if I still have it, not sure now. It came in boxes about the size of a milk crate. I can't remember the name of the stuff but it was applied with a hose and supposedly cleanup was not easy.

Edit. It was similar to the stuff in this story. Not sure if the same brand but applied the same. https://www.thermo-gel.com/image/cache/2013_Firefighter_Equipment_Guide_without_Pricing.pdf
