Couple videos from last summer not me but ski friends. Drone is friends boat and wreck is from behind my boat. I’d didn’t get to see the video I was driving so didn’t get to enjoy the video until that night! The guy that crashed just learned to ski the end of the summer the year before.

Since we're talking about water-skiing, why don't we have any of those cool water ski shows in Havasu or Parker.
Seems like it would be way more fun to watch then "A shoot out." I personally don't understand the attraction to Desert Storm or Super Cat festival, yeah i said it.
I'd prefer to be on my boat water skiing then walking around looking at some rich guys boat.

Haven't skied in about 5 years.
Last skied behind my buddy's Ski Malibu, about 18 months after my 6 way bypass, down casino row, Laughlin.
Sore? Yes. Absofukinlutely.
Talented? Not so much.
But I'll give it another try.
And another.
True freedom, as far as I'm concerned.

short answer:

1 - people are fatter and lazier today on average

2 - boats are much bigger, more expensive and require more vehicle to tow.

The cost of a tow vehicle AND the boat today equal the cost of a nice home mortgage. 30-40 years ago a truck and boat was a small percent of an average income.

The days of a jet or flat bottom behind a station wagon are long gone, but anyone with an average job could swing it back then.

27 years ago I built an 11sec 67 mustang from the ground up, bought an inclosed Pace American trailer all on 30k a year. We make 100k now and I couldn't build that if I wanted to.

I was going to post this... 🤣

Great ski for playing around, my dad bought one years ago when he was about the same age as I am now (which is a trip to think about). Ski'd on it more than a few times. I imagine it is great for lower powered boats as well, lots of surface area to get you out of the water.

My buddy had drank enough water to empty havasu from being drug behind his uncles boat trying to learn how to single ski and finally gave up 20 years ago. I bought a Big Daddy a couple of years ago and he popped up on his second pull.

Still love to ski, I would ski everyday if I could. But now I ski when I can. We traditionally start off the year with a NYD ski run at our local pond but this year weather and debris stopped it. Friday evening and yesterday were excellent though. The wife skis as well, but a torn acl and mcl will put her on the trailer this summer.
The lake we typically boat at is 99.9% wake surfers, but we do have a ski course and a ski club, Lake Don Pedro Water Ski Club.

I've never had the chance to ski behind a true tournament boat. Not a wakeboard boat with massive ballast tanks and a 3' wake. A direct-drive boat like a Pro Star 190 or a classic Ski Nautique. I'd like to see what it's like having that immediate torque and a wake that is almost non-existent behind the boat. My struggles are always trying to cross the wake of a West Coast custom bowrider with a big block and a Bravo I. Not the friendliest for skiing. 🤷

I've done it once, my brother's GF had a 97ish Nautique tournament tow boat, she was an amazing skier and skied on the UCSB ski team. It was sooooo nice to ski behind that. He screwed up and they broke up😪

You need to ski behind an old school flat bottom. Nothing like it.
I went to ski school at Houghton Lakes outside of Barstow. On the first pull, they said, just get up and ski back-and-forth so we can see where you’re at. So I started cutting and jumping the wake. They stopped the boat. Came back and asked me why I was jumping the wake, don’t do that. I said well it was a nice wake to jump. My boat doesn’t make that big of a wake. They looked at me like I was crazy.

Funny story first time on my brother's ( his is a 1990 I think) going about 35- 40 maybe? He cranked it hard and almost threw me from the boat lost my beer to grab something,those thing turn on a dime!!!!

Speed has nothing to do with it. It’s all about the driver. Instant throttle and boat response. skiing about 2400 RPM.

I grew up skiing behind a flat bottom boat with my dad. I skied behind my 83 Howard for years. Motor blew up when I was headed to Havasu in 1990. I went down and got a ski Centurian. They had them at Costco. Great boat no wake. but at high altitude could not get 34 mph out of it. In 1997 I picked up my ski Natique. I still have it and I love the boat.

My buddy's Ski Malibu, an '89 I think, 275 blue water merc 350 Chevy, Q-jet and all, easily pulled as good as my big block jet, if not better.
A similar HP out drive wasn't even in the same zip code, no thanks.

I’m a little biased but a prostar 190 with powerslot transmission is hard too beat. Nice smooth, soft, and flat wake. A big upgrade is having the zero off or perfect pass speed control. About a flat a bottom as you can get plus the chines to control spray

Tell you what, this thread sure brings back fond memories. . .

Old 60's -80's boats and water skiing back when most of us still had a full head of hair.

And could crack a beer at 7 in the morning.

Had a 93 Malibu tournament ski boat then upgraded to a Malibu 247 lsv. Has a very flat wake when the ballast tanks are empty. A lot more room for the family on the new boat. Kids can surf but they know when I hit the drain button the ski comes out.
