Where was the Best glass you've ever skied on?

Parker is Great, but I'm gonna say the most perfect glass I've Ever had was Pine Flat.

You?
Rio Harley Mexico , was my go to place , in 80s and 90s before it got popular . During part of that era there was no electricity it was definitely roughing it. Wild times down there, during the week we were only ones there sometimes we would stay week at a time sometimes 2 weeks .

2009/2010 era.
Wife and I are sitting on a beach with the boat about 2 miles south of rotary Park, BHC.
Old school flat bottom, well used open headers, desert blistered and faded gel/paint, pulling a skier.
Driver slows and shuts the boat off next to downed skier.
Life jacket, ski and line all in the water, floating down river.
Life jacket swapped in the water.
Previous skier fires up the boat and gets line tight, and off they go.
Observer? Yeah, the driver.
Definitely not their first rodeo.
Water was glass. Half hour before sunset.
River Life.
2 seats and an ice chest.
I swear I could hear Van Halen playing.

Remember going down there as a kid, adults would bring groceries and there was a Mexican lady near by that would cook us up some great food. I also remember that a couple adults would go out first and make sure the water was safe. Apparently there were some issues with trip type of wires being stretched across the river.

short answer:

1 - people are fatter and lazier today on average

2 - boats are much bigger, more expensive and require more vehicle to tow.

The cost of a tow vehicle AND the boat today equal the cost of a nice home mortgage. 30-40 years ago a truck and boat was a small percent of an average income.

The days of a jet or flat bottom behind a station wagon are long gone, but anyone with an average job could swing it back then.

Seems like a lot of Parker skiers on this board. What I find interesting is the fact that little Lake Arrowhead appears to be the training ground for so many of the outstanding speed/endurance water skiers. Male and female Arrowhead Ski Club skiers who have won the overall Catalina Ski Race crowns include Butch Peterson, Mike Kennedy, Craig Wendt, Mason Thompson, Linda Martini, and Joanie Martini. - --that's quite a list.

That’s because arrowhead gets rougher than a washing machine with winds and boat traffic, not to mention the altitude. Makes it a perfect training lake.

We say that if you can water ski on arrowhead you can waterski anywhere.

Threw my boy back on the ski yesterday evening. His last ride was 7 months ago. Rigged up a nice ski pole off my dash. My Boy LOVED it! When I pulled him off, he kept screaming MORE MORE MORE.... So I threw his ass back on!

Blue Mesa, Navajo, Jackson res. Gurnsey/Glendo
Navajo for sure, and midweek, you can sleep in until 10 and still get it. Went last year after not having been there for 15 years and nothing has changed. Have another week long trip planned in August. Need to try Guernsey and/or Glendo this year, never been!

Don't do Gurnsey/Glendo on a holiday. Its a friggin zoo. Just about as bad as Chatfield.

Also, watch the reports on when they drain off water from Gurnsey to feed Glendo. Gurnsey can get low. Nice beach camping at Gurnsey.

Think they start doing that about mid summer.

Bonny Reservoir was another favorite. Haven't been in 30 years. They have a nice campground as well.

Should be good.

And, it's the other way around. . . they drain Glendo into Gurnsey and, Gurnsey is kind of used as a check valve/retaining reservoir to dump further down stream.

It is Gurnsey that water height that fluctiates. They always try to keep Glendo full.

Used to always take the back route up 85 through Torrington. You can gas up the truck & boat in Torrington or Lingle.

Guernsey Resevoir, Long Canyon Campground... morning glass! Soooo smooth you could almost do lines off it 😉👀 View attachment 1376904

Oh man we had a helluva camping trip to Glendo when I was a kid! We thought it would be a PERFECT time to take our canoe up there and fish while we camped during spring break! I can't remember which campground we were staying at, but we were up on some bluffs high above the lake.

It snowed our first night there....imagine our surprise the next morning when we realized the entire lake was frozen over!! 🤣🤣🤣

Not to mention the locals HATE greenies!
That's what they call us folks from Colorado because of our license plates 🫣

Hard to tell anymore with the 900 different kinds of plates we have these days.

The CL on the boat sticker is the give away.

Rio Hardy has a lot of history with my family. My grandparents first started going down there with my dad and his brothers in 1968, and ultimately purchased site 45 in the 70s. If you have seen aerial photos of the cantina and river that look like hey are dated from the late 80s, chances are they were captured by my grandpa out of a plane being flown by my dad's stepdad.

Here is oldest picture I can find of site 45:

My dad, there's a decent chance that @DWC is on the boat when this picture was taken

Brings back some great memories. Sitting at Jesse’s having the best chile rellenos I’d ever had and heading down the road to buy another case of corona. We were on the water all morning, evening and did stupid stuff all night. (Probably why I still can’t stand the smell of tequila ). My three most memorable trips are when your dad busted up his girlfriend(your mom😁) when he tried a slick 180 maneuver. Boat skimmed and hooked hard. Your mom had to go to the hospital immediately. I think we were an hour into the trip. Another trip Mark drug me bare-footing over 12” of water. I was just learning how to go back and forth across the wake. I kept yelling and head nodding 😬. The last was the infamous skiing pyramid. Not sure how your dad and Matt could walk after that. My foot was stuck in the binding and it bounced back n forth for a too long. Good times. Sure glad there weren’t cell phones back then.

Our oldest grandson began skiing on a ski board on south end of Havasu at age 7. He’d ski that board from 3 Dunes down to near the Pump Out plant. He tells us now, he always just let go before we got to the Pump Out with those huge pipes going up the hill. He thought they’d suck him right out if the lake if he fell near them.
He’s now a very good 22 yr old skier. Told us last winter he and his gf were going skiing in Idaho. Have to admit, I was a bit surprised when he sent us this photo of his Idaho trip.

I still have the video and great memories of skiing at 55 years old to prove a point

from the dam, to the mouth of the river. I had two cans of beer in my board shorts. Drank them both, saved the cans.🎉
