Me in 1974 at LOTO with the slalom ski from a pair of Cypress Gardens Dick Pope Jr wooden skis. I'm still amazed I could do this with a flat bottomed ski with those little rubber bindings. Skiing is getting rare at LOTO these days, the water is too rough unless you get up early. Kids are more interested in PWC's & wake boards.

Still out most mornings. I have spent the last two months learning to foil board. It is super challenging and comes with many face plants. Going out at 7:00A.M. tomorrow. ( don't want to mess up the skiers water at 5:30 ) Still skiing at least one morning a week. The foil sessions wipe me out, using so many muscles and am real sore afterwards. Not sure how old Barry is, but I will be 65 in November. Tim that is teaching me to foil is out almost everyday skiing or foiling at just 76 years old.

Do you Brad and Bill and I can’t remember the other guy who was great with the camera still get together?

I still visit Brad occasionally; Bill comes to Parker in the winter with his rock crawler. Probably talk to Orange Bill on the phone once a month.
Don't know where Lex with the camera is. Have not seen him in many years.
Lisa & I are in Calif. about one week a month. We are working on a really old house on Balboa Island, just returned to Parker today. It was 61* when we left the beach and 101* when we got home. Please let me know if you are coming to Parker, we need to get together.

That’s right Lex!! I see Bill once a year at weekend Paradise new years day.

Are you refurbishing a vaca home on the island?

Yeah, for sure if or when I get back out there I’ll reach out! 👍

Yes, a vacation home. It is only 600 sq. ft. and was built in 1939. It is on a small pie shaped lot, probably smallest house and lot on the island. It will be a nice place to get out of the heat in the summer. I have never surfed, so I plan to learn this summer. Maybe see you at the beach.

My boat has been unused for years. A big reason is because the 455 Olds didn't have enough oomph to pull me out of the water. It is a 23.5 ft jet boat and I am not small. I have recently started on an entire redo of the boat including building a 468 Chevy.
I just cannot see owning a boat I can't ski behind, even if I am 63 instead of 23 like in the pic.

Apparently they don’t have parents like mine.

When I was a kid, my dad would stop the boat somewhere, grab a ski and toss it in the lake/river, grab a life jacket and toss it in the lake/river, and then grab me and toss me in the lake/river, and then tell me if I wanted back in the boat I was going waterskiing.

I think today that would be classified as child abuse which is probably why you don’t see a whole lot of kids skiing these days.
Sounds like my dad

I prefer skis
I did buy a wakeboard to try it out . I didn’t like it .
Then I got a bigger boat . That’s a problem .
It’s hard to get pulled out .
Bigger boat comes out of the hole slow .
Maybe it me , don’t know .
The family all wakeboards cause they say it’s cooler

Yep. Two skis for a while but the beginning of one summer I was probably 10-12 he said you get one or none. Took me a few trips but got it eventually. Ended up at 16 in a local tournament and placed 2nd or third against a bunch of older kids that were on a college ski team, so not bad for a weekend warrior. I’m not fat but I’d really like to lose 10-20 lbs and ski a lot easier. Or maybe at 60 I should give up on my narrow EP comp 1 I’ve had for 40+ years😏

Because people are lazy are skiing requires effort.
I learned to ski as a kid, grew up in Long Beach and skied before school in Marine Stadium. Wilson High School had a water ski club and we skied twice a week before school.
Roger Crocker was a classmate of mine. Everyone that skied at Marine Stadium in the early mornings would stop skiing if you saw that someone wanted to barefoot ski, Roger was one of the best local barefoot skiers, RIP Roger.

Single ski is soooo much easier with double handles. Not cool but I never cared.
When I first started skiing, mid 70's, I used to think about double handles that could be screwed together after you got up but never pursued it, and as I got better didn't really care anymore. I did see that Idea for sale once, not sure if it caught on or is still available. For the record I'm 72, but haven't skied for about 20 years, I was never great.😆

My wife’s son and I still ski. I like to ski at least three days a week. Last December, I ended up getting a knee replacement. In March, I ended up getting an ankle replacement. I had to quit skiing last October. My ankle was killing me. I’m learning how to walk again and getting pretty good at. I’m really hoping I can ski again at least by next October When I get back to Havasu. Oh by the way, I’m gonna be 68 in June.

I found this on youtube a couple years ago. Local Dentist taught all the locals to waterski behind his boat. He passed about 5 years ago. He still had that boat , he put a new Honda engine on it. He was still teaching kids to waterski into his late 80's. My wife worked for him for several years. I never skied behind it, but my wife and sons spent a lot of time behind it.

It's not like I was ever a pro skier anyway but after I broke my back in two places (no not a skiing accident ) I really started pulling back for fear of doing more damage. That plus the fact that my wife is a really bad tow captain pretty much put an end to my skiing days.

Haven’t skied in over 20 years. Used to be ok. Coups barefoot, been on tricks, on speed ski also. Arthritis a grip are telling me don’t do it. Plus two knee replacements and broken pelvis are saying no.
I look at it like an old girl friend. Better left to the great memories rather than meeting up again 30 years later.😳

Love my HO Magnum. It was the logical move from my vintage 69" Jobe. I was 275+ when I last skied. 250 lbs now so that should help too. I'm still 6'6" so I still plow a lot of water.

My son and I Ski. He prefers it over wakeboarding.

One thing we learned as a family is if you want to ski or wakeboard. You don’t go to Parker or Havasu. We go to places where we can ski almost any time of day. It’s great!

I’ve actually come to enjoy our trips that revolve around water skiing and wake boarding over Parker and Havasu. Completely different vibe and no stress boating trips.

Looking forward to this summer.

It's been awhile, hell I'll give it another shot. Damn double booters might kill me tho, I smoke way too many cigarettes, and can't breathe worth a damn 😮‍💨 I'll be 64 next month, but this thread's got me motivated!
Skis are still in great shape

My dad's old ski! He was taller and heavier than me, but I still managed to get up on this big boy a couple of times. Ski now chills out behind the bar to remind me of summers long past.
Still have the original carrying case!

LOL have you looked at the average American lately? We sit in tubes, sxs and sit down jet-skis with 32oz sodas.

We tried to ski most weekends. I never saw a bigger smile on my teenager’s face than after a good ski run.
