He is mia from here because I honestly just needed a break.. it’s too much to argue about everything and be sour on everything and constantly call rdp river Karen’s place etc..

RD

Being serious for one minute...

I can't even imagine how many possible New members have been lost, after they read his posts.

Seems much more peaceful around the whole board lately, and I've had him on ignore for awhile!

I sincerely hope this break lasts for...

awhile.

I disagree, new members didnt quit because of him. they dont come back when the forums are dead like right now. there isnt much out there on RDP. nothing exciting anyway.

Maybe I said it wrong?

I'm talking about lurkers, that Never signed up, after reading his arrogant posts.

Poor Dave had to ban the guy, from this thread, just so the adults could have a place to talk.

The reality is, there is really no way to know. It's just an ASSumption on my part.

I don't really want to turn this into a bashing or loving session about LOF. I think you know that I like him quite a bit personally.. but there is no doubt that he is here for one reason and one only and that's to argue shit.. I wish he'd just change his presentation a little to not be so rough, and always combative.. I don't even disagree with most of his positions, I just disagree with the delivery.

It isn't gonna be forever, but honestly I just needed a week or two. I got enough stress going on right now that I don't need people adding to it.

I like Ash overall, but SOB the last 6 months or so he seemed to be in every thread just arguing to argue, or creating arguments about shit that didn’t need to be created. Maybe that’s his personality, but it didn’t seem like it previously.

The written word is much more different than the audible word. If you’re not precise in the written there is no inflection or emotion. This forum is full of posts lacking both.

It’s definitely an art communicating by email or on a platform like this forum to effectively articulate your position.

I see it every day with emails from executive teams and leaders and then they wonder why their message didn’t land correctly or more questions are raised than answers or they don’t have the buy-in aspect. These are highly respected leaders in group settings.

Of course none of this matters if you don’t give a fuck what you write. LOF isn’t one of them.

I suspect LOF just needed to tighten up the execution even though the message was accurate. I hope he’s back soon.

So about those speed cars..

RD
Well, I am #1813 and Speed told me that my car should be here by the end of the year. I'm not sure if I should keep it or not. Would you buy another Speed car after having yours for a bit?

Honestly to drive the thing is like nothing else I have ever owned Offroad.. it’s light years ahead of my X3 that I had. I do have my concerns about long term reliability just like everyone else.. but I’m really really happy with the performance of the car in particular how well it corners etc.

I wish the factory would figure out this overheating with the windshield on problem.. that’s a big downer for me. :(.

That said if I can get it figured out for a reasonable cost then I’d say yes I would buy one again. If it turns out to be some monster problem then I probably get a pro r. To be blunt though I do feel the chassis and suspension on a speed is a lot better than a pro r.

Stacy and Griner and my kids are all pushing me towards the new 1500 ranger though with a build like my old one. The AC and heat with no dust are pretty monster selling points.

I posted my friends windshield solution in the Speed discussion thread. He has put many miles on it and so far has proven effective and zero over heating issues to date.

The ranger has that new steel belt deal and seems to be higher quality than the Xped from what we can see.

RD
Just depends what youre looking to do with it. The Ranger is a bit more utility and the Xpedition is a bit more sport. I have not ridden in a new Ranger 1500 but the Xpedition I was really surprised at how well it works in the dirt and bumps. Also the stock sound system in them bumps!

Why not just get a Well built Jeep?

I have zero interest in a rubber band car, that's why the Talon appeals to me.

But...

It sure would be nice to have a license plate car, so you could go Anywhere with it.

A well built Jeep would fit the bill nicely?

Also, since you asked...

What's the latest on your car?

To get the shit beat out of you on the high speed stuff? I know the expedition and Ranger aren't really built for the high speed suspension stuff like the big dogs are, but even those are better than most all jeeps out there in that regard. You'd be hard pressed to get a jeep that light and to get the suspension to really work well when that light, you'd really need to go to independent suspension front and rear (un-sprung vs sprung weight ratio is way off on a 2,500lb car with live axles).

I'm pretty sure we All are aware of the differences, yeah?

Dave wants AC, heated seats, no dust and drink holders. And if he's talking about something for his wife and kids, he's not talking about something to haul azz in. Yeah?

Not every WANTS to play the Hey LAM/Ricky racer game. Yeah?

And with Dave's wasted ankle, I can Totally understand the need for more comfort.

A well built Jeep or nicely modified 80's Bronco, would be a nice all around vehicle for where He lives.

I'd say a K5 too, but you know how I feel about Cheebys! 😜

Dave isn't OJ Simpson . . . he's trying to go medium-speed thru the desert, not low speed thru LA

Even though the Honda is the most anemic and conservative of the UTV models it’s still light years ahead of a Jeep in terms of various terrain riding.

Jeep’s are vanilla.

The Jeep has a purpose but you’re not getting anywhere timely or exciting. UTV’s are plated in AZ so that voids the plated vehicle argument.

I have a similar ankle to RD’s. I can’t ride my dirt bike for more than 5 minutes without my ankle being a mess but I can wheel a UTV for a thousand miles no problem.

Did you kids miss the part where he said Stacy wants something different? 🤣

Maybe Dave should get her a 4 door then?

A jeep in the desert is about the slowest ride out there. I'm not talking about being ricky racer or anything. Just normal driving on anything short of a fairly smooth fire road and the speed falls off the charts to annoyingly slow.

There is a reason Jeeps going "Jeeping" with other Jeeps and Toyotas...... nobody else wants to go that slow! lol!

It's a pain to come across a group of stock jeeps on the trail...

We had to wait for like what seemed forever one day, for like 30 of those fuckers to drive past us! 🤬

My dream car would be Talon, or Maverick, with a license plate. 💞

Fuck I need to win the lottery! Bad! 😁

I'm thinking there will be No rubber band cars, in the near future. Everything will be dual clutch.

Any insight on this?? 🍿

Price point combined with performance will be the biggest issue. Rubber band cars aren’t an issue with people who know how to manage them. Until the cost of the dual clutch cars become more reasonable I don’t see the belts going away.

As much as people bitch about belts - belts are cheap, easily replaced, and absorb alot of shock in the drivetrain of these things.
There's a reason most everyone has stuck with belts thus far. DCT's have been around for a long time, but theyre complex, expensive and another thing to maintain. The Jury's still out on the DCT in the new Can Am....mixed reviews on how it feels / drives, and hasn't been out long enough to really see how the durability is.
The Talon has some sort of DCT, but it doesn't make enough power to hurt itself so can't really use that as a comparison to the serious perforance UTV's

Most likely more will move to DCT not really because the belt is an issue though just because thats what the competition is doing. There are no issues with the belt/cvt on the Pro R. People are not breaking belts. Honestly its a great system on the car and works well.

Agree 100%. I haven’t blown a belt in 4 years / 4,000ish miles.

Agreed.

If you put aside all the parasitic loss with a belt, I suppose they do work ok.

Just not my cup of tea for Lots of reasons.

Did you say win the lotto ???

I'd take a lump sum payout and swing by Armada Engineering or Kibbetech . . .

The only rubber bands here are wrapped around stacks of Benjamins!

The Talon is a great car but going head to head performance with the CVT car in its same class (Polaris RZR naturally aspirated) the Honda is outperformed in every way.

Had it not been for a little luck and a struggling navigator on the Joe Bolton Polaris team in the 19 class we would’ve finished hours behind the Polaris in this last Baja 1000. I don’t hate the Talon. I like it but it’s not a performance machine by any means.

We decided not to race with the Honda team because of it this year. We’ll race the Pro Turbo class instead with the other rubber band cars lol.

Man wins Baja 1000 in a Talon.

Man can't figure out there is more to racing, than being the fastest.

Any questions? 🤔😁🤣

I drove a Talon around the KOH course a couple weeks ago, on stock tires too haha. I honestly didnt care for the trans a whole lot. It has plus and minus. It was really weird when you let off the gas how much engine/trans braking it has. I barely ever even used the brakes because of how much it slows down when you let off. The launch mode was really fun though! I also did like how if you were driving in automatic mode you could still downshift or upshift and it would stay there for a bit. Overall though I didnt see it as much of a game changer as I thought it would be.

In a racing environment we struggled to keep axles staying alive in the Honda because they don’t absorb the shock load like a CVT car does.

99% of weekend warriors will never have an issue or put the Honda through a racing environment but there are advantages and disadvantages to both CVT cars and DCT cars.

When BMW put the "launch mode" in an M3 with the dual clutch, the also put a "counter" in the ECU to track it.

Use it over 3 times, and your warranty is void.

Just saying! 😜

@rivermobster ny old Polaris ranger with long travel actually ran a lot faster than most would realize. The cruise speeds were high because of the wheel base and travel.

I’d have Eric do a 1500 the same way.
