My prediction - Speed UTV will go BK from the warranty/service costs or end up in a class-action suit. This will be the only run of cars ever.

The Speed name has been ruined and will always be associated with problems, unfortunately.

Speed is the Huffy Bike of the off road industry at this point.

I don’t foresee him having many repeat customers based on how everything has transpired thus far.

I hope for all you Speed owners that I’m wrong.

I’m calling it. Speed UTV will go BK from the warranty/service costs.

If he is really 250m into this, he is gonna have some pissed off investors. The Speed name has been ruined unfortunately and will always be associated with problems. Speed is the Huffy Bike of the off road industry.
Alright I’ll go $100 against in 12 months.

I've been thinking for a long time, it will be the next Delorian.

But, I'm not a gambling man, so no bets will be placed by me.

Anything is possible!

Yup. I've done the high gear swap in a few Can-Am transmissions with customers stating they were 100+ MPH on 35's. A few well known Pro-R racers have told me 110 MPH recently.
I have a couple questions for you to take a break from all this back and forth of (mostly negative) opinions.

Anything to watch out for on a slightly modified yxz powertrain? 1800 miles on the old girl, all fluids changed every 500 including differentials. I'm not exactly easy on it, but not abusive by any means. I know how to drive a race and play car. Probably 15 to 20% over base horsepower with light modifications. 2018 sport shift.

Secondly, how about this little break on the cup on an hv1? I need to shorten one axle by a quarter inch, then ready to bolt everything back up and go test. Already bought all new axles and CV's from kar tech, but can we get away with it with this little defect?

Coming from an 091 bus that was horrible, this HV1 transmission is an absolute dream to drive. And the only reason that there is green lithium grease on there is that I used the spare axles and CV's to mock it up to move it to the new shop. It will all be rinsed and replaced with the good stuff when we are ready to test.

I am not sure it will go BK. But they will license and/or sell the IP first to try and cover costs. Not sure anyone will purchase it, but it will be interesting to watch.

In agreement, this run will be the only run by Hisun.
Whoever is bankrolling this adventure (it’s not RG), will want to see a ROI soon and these continual warranty items will start adding up. Plus all the vendors who are cutting corners, will most likely stop working with speed, which will only increase production costs.

That’s the way I see it, they fire a few suppliers causing more delays and higher cost. RD said it himself this first batch they sold at a loss. I believe it. In fact I think they are all at a loss until car 2500 when the price increased.

Banks will want to see ROI soon after deliveries happen. I do wonder if they have private investment that would change things

There was another post about the state of the power sports industry. It was in another thread but highlighted declining sales. Definitely a challenging time right now for manufacturers, dealers, and support companies.

IMO, Speed was hoping to offset the loses from the first run of cars with sales of future cars that were priced appropriately. Since Speed is not public, we can’t see what those sale numbers, but I get the opinion future sales are not growing at the rate required to offset early production numbers. Plus the longer it takes to setup a true dealership model, sales will be negatively impacted. With only 2 locations authorized to work on cars today, that also hurts sales.

Let’s hope it is not.
That could be a huge conflict of interest IMO.
While no one knows the contract details, if Speed can’t deliver the volume of sales to offset the loses, my gut says Hisun ends up with ownership of all the Speed IP and designs. Speed would have almost zero ability to get any of that back (Chineses companies don’t play by the same rules).

I dunno.. Robby originally told me a Chinese billionaire was backing it.. I never asked who it was but he showed me some
Advanced mfg’ing facikities.. and hisun is building it so building it so I took that to be the same.

Seem like the wind is out of his sails.

His Pro R looks badass!

I wonder if he got a hot tune as well.🙄 If not, do they just put the same motor back in and hope it doesn’t break? What’s to keep it from failing repeatedly?

At some point I’d start thinking of a repower with a different type of power. Hybussa might get it done.

RD what is the time frame for a motor swap? I’m guessing it can’t take more than a couple days to complete once they start???

But, they need the parts first. Takes years for cars, so parts should only take months :)

I’ve hated Budlight my whole life 😁.

Lol. If Coors Light had done what Bud did I’d probably still drink it at the river. At the end of the day it’s a product to me. I either want to buy it or I don’t.

Budlight has fully recovered from the issue and it’s in everyone’s rearview mirror. Except for here lol.
No i have not bought a bud light product since this ordeal im sure by now they have lost alot from me.Some of friends asked if i ever will buy them again i said nope.some thought i would go back eventually LOL.

I would have thought they had motors sitting on the shelf ready to go. 🤷🏼‍♂️ Especially with race teams that might need them???

This is going to be interesting if it indeed is a blown motor and see how long it takes to be repaired.

Can't say much about the Yamaha, we've never gotten into them, they actually hold up pretty well for most users. Some of the rock crawling and short course racers have issues, but we rarely get contacted about them (which I am fine with, I have enough on my plate with the other units)

Broken CV cup on HV-1 is fine to run as is. That is the register to center the CV onto the flange. If the outer housing of the CV is a little large, they can break the cups like yours shows. There is still plenty of register left to center the joints, but maybe worth checking the outer diameter of the CV outer housing and machine or polish down a bit for more of a slip fit.

Not to bag on Speed

But

Supposedly every 5, 10, 20 or 100 parts they were to supply parts for “ parts inventory “ I would think, Actually EXCEPT them to have a few long blocks or complete motors sitting on a self ready to bolt in as well as transmissions, diffs, steering box’s, radiators and shocks…. Parts are parts

I sure hope you don’t have to wait for a motor assembly to float over from Vietnam ….

Here’s a response from the Speed God himself, back in January 2022.

I'm thinking of selling my spot, #2153 El Diablo LE, no accessories ordered. $5000 leaving 28500 due plus tax and fees. Let me know if anyone is a player. Todd

You cant replace a blown engine with the same engine that has been sitting in stock for this reason as it has the same bad parts. You need to wait for the updated engine to arrive. Could be some time, definitely longer than 2 weeks.

Adobe has AI integrated into a Lot of its products now.

So many toys, so little time...

On a serious note - We're all gonna die from this shit, mark my words.

Right now its amusing and funny. When you can't tell if video footage is real or fake, and propaganda is blasted everwhere by the media.....that's how it all comes apart

I feel at this point, you're either going to get in front of AI, or end up behind it.

I don't know shit about it yet, but I am reading up on it and trying to educate myself to it's potential. And it's potential is truly limitless.

There are always ways to tell if something is real or fake. But if you don't have the tools to know the difference? At that point you're gonna be fucked.
