When I bought it, it had the Dana 35 rear and the Dana 30 split front axle with vacuum. That was the first thing to come out.

after getting left stranded by that lame vac lock assembly up front I just ended up shimming it into the "locked" position

Two ways to look at it. I wouldn’t buy anything with an automatic. Of course I drive an 18 speed as my daily. If you’ve ever owned a jeep, and live in the mountains you’d understand. The auto is a total slug going up the hill. Try finding a stick shift dodge. Impossible to find, and when you see one, they’re gone in minutes.

nice score for a Rubicon price wise. I am of the automatic crowd, but each to his own. When I was rock crawling I found it was easier to negotiate obstacles without a clutch and gas and brake pedal. I know people that have a hand throttle on shifter, but still prefer to ease into it without burning a clutch. I get the 18 speed. Never owned or drove a big truck with an automatic.

Rock crawling is a different deal all together. Same with desert racing. For all practical purpose, you cant beat a standard shift in a shit box. The reason everyone over fifty can drive stick is this; when we were 16 years old, the cheapest starter car available was a Honda/nissan/toyota/ etc 4 cylinder stick shift shit box. Not only were they the cheapest, but also bulletproof. An automatic will come nowhere near the standard shift in a shitbox (I classify this 20 year old TJ) in durability, overall performance from a speed&power ( Jeromy Clarkson’s voice) and maintenance standpoint. The automatic was always an upgrade way back in the day. Now, no one can drive them. It’s a lost art, like writing in cursive. I’d bet if you took a poll here on the RDP, if based on age, you’ll see a 20% decrease in ability to drive one, in decades of years old of driver. So, 50 and up, id say 80%can. 40 and up, 60% can, 30 and up, 40% can, 20 and up 20% can, and children learning now, almost zero can. No one owns them. No one has them available for they’re kids to learn on.

You forgot to mention that a manual transmission is also an ANTI- THEFT device. You can leave the keys in the ignition. lol

10k is a great buy. Stock Rubicons will tackle 95% of what most people who think they want to offroad will drive over.

I too follow the Jeeps on BAT. I keep hoping that a CJ-7 like the one in this video below comes available. I already know I will probably have a problem with my wife, but I think I can sell the classic Jeep before I can sell buying another 2 seat golf cart. I can use the Jeep to go to car shows, tow my boat trailer, and take for beach cruises.

Ahh...an Atlas, not stock reduction ratio....you'd have cooked 4 clutches getting there with the stock T-case lol. I love manual stuff, but gotta get more gear in it or its sorta lame.

Couple pics. I’m planning on giving it a good look over this weekend. I can tell it’s got a wheel seal leak already, gonna tear into that for sure. On a positive note, the top and doors have never been off, and every control arm bracket it perfect, like it’s never touched rock. So that’s cool.

If you’ve owned jeeps, you’d understand. Show me any vehicle that has a/c, seats four, has four low, and lockers, put a boat in the water, do 70 on the freeway, and will only go up in value, for under $15k. Now, all things being equal, and it is mechanically sound. I was looking at getting one of those sic ass four door hard top side by sides. Those bastards are $45k and up! And only going down in value, and has nowhere near the duty cycle or capability of a tj. Of course biased. Ive owned two TJs, and two CJs. Oh. Maybe that’s it. I’ve owned too many jeeps.
