We were heading to Sedona on Sunday and an hour from home heard and felt a thud and the trailer became much heavier.
Trailers upgraded suspension started failing.

Turned around and gently headed home.
Contacted the suspension builder and they say they'll send a crew out to replace it with an "improved" version.

So I've had enough of this RV, went down and ordered a new Toy Hauler.
Holy crap you've had some headaches with that thing! Sorry to hear it 😔

A couple summers back I bought a new flatbed trailer from a local builder. I had one similar to this years ago and some asshole decided they needed it more than I did and stole it out of my yard. To say that this trailer is of a lesser quality than my old one is an understatement. Obviously it was a lot more expensive than my old one as well. I have had to do a lot of upgrades to it since I bought it. The original header bar on it was welded together so shitty that it had pinholes in it that would leak rusty water all over the trailer sides and deck. The end caps on it were just plastic push caps. Lots of shitty welds and cheaper construction methods than they used to offer. The sales rep even told me they were having a hard time keeping employees. That said, I can tell they had someone who knew what was going on welding the important pieces, but all the add on parts of the trailer looked like they were welded by a crackhead on a Friday afternoon. Anways, here’s some pics of the new header bar and winch mount I’ve been working on. I hope to finish it up this weekend and put some paint on it. I still need to rebuild the jack mount that’s all that’s left at this point. Pics uploaded out of order but you get the idea. I bought a new place in November of last year. It has had me hooked up pretty good, I shoulda been posting to this thread a lot more because I’ve had plenty of content to share as far as what I’ve been working on. The building was an attempt at making a weed grow i bought in various states of disrepair and mid finish. I’ve had to add a new door which you can see in the background of the pics, I have added a sewer line for my RV and a 50amp plug out back. I’ve added a new breaker panel, removed a lot of framing for the weed grow area, added some new shop lights. I’ve been busy!
(The pano photos didn’t load a thumbnail but if you click on them they will load. Before and after of my shop lighting.) as you can see I have a long way to go, but it’s been fun. I plan to add a Bend Pak lift soon too.

I repainted my poor old Tahoe its white and we all know Dupont screwed up the white paint so I had to take it down to bare metal , primer and repaint the whole suv . painted it in single stage paint , cost me 700 bucks and two weeks screwing around . All and all I'm happy with it.

In Belmount Shore looking at a 3 story home with water intrusion. Owner thought he knew how to install windows and doors to save money several years ago and now his gonna cost him as there is extensive damage below the deck within the home.

Dude, what a journey you have had. I admire your perseverance while also understanding how much you and your wife love traveling and how much this kinda crap just sucks. I have the exact same TH (less the fb paint) and every time I see a post I think oh shit, now what. Thank god I haven’t been through what you have but I guess, it could be just a trip away…

I wish you nothing but better luck on the next RV.

btw - we chatted a bit thanksgiving week a couple years ago on Little Dry Lake off Trona Rd. You gave me a milk bone for my pup. It was great meeting the man, the myth, the legend.

When the kids towed the rocket to White Sands for launch the 2000 2500 HD steering box sprung a leak.
So, I replaced it with a red box and all the joints with Moog. With all the miles on the truck it's a as long as your at it kind'a fix.
Ain't cheap but the truck is itself again.

Probably roll by Maaco and see what the getting the roof and hood painted will cost.

Thanks. Nice meeting you. 👍 Great camping area.

I talked to the trailer builder they recommend ordering with the independent suspension. Talked to other IS owners and they say the same. So new rig will arrive in May. All solar as well.

Was contacted by the Suspension MFG they will be sending a crew out to replace the suspension with up-graded parts and fix the brakes that failed at the same time. Nothing like a steep off ramp towing 22.000 lbs with no trailer brakes.

"We discontinued that model suspension." - A month into production goes the tale.
Comes stock with 3000 lb, "hell lets upgrade to 4000 lb, an extra cushion of reliability!"

Under 300 miles. Blown thru / no fail-safe stop. Takes the brake control wiring with it:

Normal but on the verge of blowing thru:

Still working on this thing. I have relocated the air filter up top and installed a thermo fan switch that comes on at 176* and shuts off at 167*. I was running a 185on/165off spal switch but I dont like a 20* spread and the heat soak in the summer will be hard to cool off. The thermo fan switch is from an 80's era BMW. I have it installed crudely with wire nuts.
Couple weeks ago I picked up a 4 speed gearbox to replace the obsolete 2 speed that has blade shaft damage. Most of these frames are a direct single speed to the blade shaft. Gearbox frames are rare. The advantage of a gearbox is to be able to run the engine at full speed (power) but slow down the blade shaft as the blades get bigger. 14" to 30" blades. Think of it like re gearing for bigger tires.

Just finished buttoning up the spare BMW engine on the bench today for the dark blue Formula BMW.

Well, my weekend is fucked. Combustion leak into the coolant. Car runs too hot to run.

Motor has to come out & back to Colorado for repair.

Racing……

Sucks, but better to have caught an issue like this, than need a dust pan and a mop to send the pieces back in an envelope.

@Cdog, sorry to hear about your engine. I'm in the proccess of pulling the engine out of my Miata, 2 1/2 yrs of hard running turbo, coolant started to get in the engine, slight foaming on pcv and oil fill cap started. Needed to reinstall my racing cutch disc anyway, so it's time dealing with it now. The formula ford with the twin side weber setup os ready to roll in April.👍

I'm on the next project, friend of mine is working on a 72 Volvo 1800 for me, hopefully it's ready in a couple of months.
Engine is almost done, tranny is cleaned up, can't wait cruising to cars and coffe with this thing.
Was goin to have this colour originally, but the busquit interior shows better with dark blue IMO.

This one is an early P1800, not mine, mine will be dark sapphire blue. One of the most beautiful cars from a 60's.

Figured I’d look into why my low beams were not working. 🤪🤪🤪🤪 Been driving with only high beams for the last couple of months. Not sure why people did not really notice it was the high beams. 🤣🤣🤣🤣 Not sure if I want to go away from the stockers. What does everyone at RDP think?

I didn‘t expect it to make as much of a difference. It makes me feel bad that the truck’s exterior has been neglected so much. It will be nice driving to the airport tomorrow at 5am to fly to Kona….

Going through some boxes of 1938 5×7 negatives that I got from when my grandfather died years ago. I took pics of them with my phone, then inverted them on photoshop...the clarity of these old negatives is astonishing to me. Here's a couple of examples. I'll be going through some more shortly.

Servicing the 3 Predator 3500's.
Next time I'll do a video. It's even simpler than the You Tube videos if ya think it thru.

When they surge it's time to clean the carb jet. They thus run much smoother and way quieter.

Simple task.
I use the Carb jet cleaning kit a few bucks from Amazon with the cheap-o Walmart carb cleaner.

Drill a hole in the brace for direct access to the idle screw:

Beware of the O rings. easy to loose:

Idle screw 2 1/2 from bottom is usually perfect:

Some floating shelves are the next journey. Never done anything like it. I’m sure it’s super simple when you have all the tools and stuff.
But my little Ryobi table saw, nail gun and sander are gonna have to do. Lol
Gonna have (hopefully) a total of 8 shelves. Ranging from (2). 54w x 10d x 3
(4) 30 x 16 x 3
(2) 64 x 16 x 3.
So far. Let’s just say I’m not disappointed. Getting better as I go along.
Cool. Thing is I’ll get to fuck em up when I try out my paint sprayer for the first time. lol

Decent progress today. All the shelves are built.

Time for some wood putty and primer tomorrow

Game plan is to have two of the 10 inch deep fit into the bar area.
The short 16 inch deep to the left and we are going to try and lower down the mantle by the 8 inch spacer and put the tv over that and then shelves where the tv is.

Had to drop down to 40 grit to cut thru the chicken scratch all the way down to metal.

Ordered a case of Gloss Black turbo cans and Amazon sent Truck liner black by mistake.
No returns on paint.

I’ll use it but went to Home Depot for the correct stuff.
