Ford said it. It was actually 900.

The biggest culprit is legacy costs. The Japanese do not have those. The big 3 if you will, are paying retirees pensions and benefits almost from from before the Japanese started offering vehicles here. Salaried is now exclusively 401K. That started around 2000.

It’s more than that from the state. Add another 6.6 billion of direct grants from the CHIPS act.

Hell of a deal for a foreign company.
The chips act from 2022?
Fukn trump 👌

Where does the $1000.00 number come from? I worked at Ford over 30 years. The waste involved in upper management decisions trying to cut costs only to have that result in a 500 million dollar recall also has an affect on the vehicle cost as well.
Im not pro union or anti management was UAW at GM for about 3 years...UGH.
Example would be the 6.0L diesel that ruined Ford's reputation. Every single engineer involved knew it was a disaster before it was released to the public. Upper management was pushing, someone/s got big bonus pushing these out.
The last Ford I bought was the first year of the 6.0 diesel. I lemon lawed that POS and never looked back.

I was born in 1970 in WA state and raised here through the early 80's. Weyerhaeuser was one of the biggest employers in the area along with Boeing. Weyerhaeuser owned or had leases on so much land since the early 1900's and had been responsibly harvesting timber and processing it to lumber for the US. When the land they had owned out in the sticks back in the day (Redmond, Kirkland, Bellevue, Snoqualmie Ridge) became more valuable to develop than to re plant trees they had the developer arm of the company, Quadrant develop it (Build infrastructure and master planned communities on it).

The General Contractor I worked for in the mid 90's built Quadrants buildings and infrastructure. All of that went away in the late 90's due to trade agreements with Canada and the drive for the US to be a "service industry". It put so many loggers, truck drivers, mill workers, local locally owned business out of work in my local area it was shocking. Weyerhaeuser was the epitome of responsible forest management since the early 1900's, they would log off areas, replant, maintain fire roads and totally understood forest management. When MT Saint Helens blew ( my indirect family lost a couple in that) Weyerhaeuser went in, reestablished the roads, replanted even though they were not allowed to harvest the billions of feet of old growth timber that was knocked down. If you ever get a chance to visit MT Saint Helens, Weyerhaeuser built an an amazing visitor and interactive center in the mid 90's on their own dime.

Our elected politicians both on the state level and federal level handed off an entire industry to Canada with little to no push back. Logging and sawmill work to create lumber and plywood for US construction. One of the last saw mills in WA State was just shut down as they were sold off, it's about 10 miles from my current home.

I grew up in Kirkland WA, it's a very affluent area now, but not so much when I was a kid in the 70's. Logging trucks on I405 and I5 were about a third of the traffic, along with the weird Boeing trailers with the pilot steering the rear axles on the trailers of fuselage or wing transporters. Not so much anymore, rarely see logging trucks, Boeing wing / fuselage trailers are much less common know too.

Wrapping this up, fuck Canada and the strangle hold they have on timber and lumbar. We have the forests and companies that can produce the same materials at a lower cost, and that has been proven. We just need the political will power to allow logging, forest management and milling here again. Shouldn't be an issue, we have been doing this n the PNW for much longer than Canada.
Weyerhaeuser came to Canada and bought out M&B , The guy that basically wrote the book on logging the BC coast . They reaped the prime second growth parted out all aspects of the lives of generation's of loggin families then left nothing but guts and feathers for us to try and make do... We all thought it was going to be good that someone was going to keep this vibrant industry going as HR McMillan had envisioned. Needless to say 100's of mills shut down, export timber took all the prime timber and now you cant even find a straight fuckin 2x4 @ the lumberyard...FUCK CANADA..? FUCK YOU!!!!

You should look in to why Weyerhaeuser was forced to leave the PNW and go in to Western Canada. It was driven by Canada's trade deal ( paid off US politicians to benefit Canadian interests and eliminate US logging and lumber production).

The Weyerhaeuser I knew was one of the most responsible timber land managers the US had ever had, and I saw what they did first hand from the early 70's to early 90's. What has stuck with me was the MT Saint Helens eruption work they did a couple years after it happened.

Fuck Canadian Lumber trade agreements and all the side money that made that happen. That agreement put so many people out of work in WA State. The Tarrifs should level the playing field on so many levels and equalize bought and paid for unfair trade deals for the US.

Feel for you. Our section sat across the isle from the Truck guys. Would travel to APG at same time. The stories that had during 6.0L development. Pure horror.

Does Vancouver Canada and the Canadian San Juan still still dump raw, untreaded sewage in to the the Puget Sound / ocean? I know they did into the 2010's... so much for the Canadian greenies being the environmentalists they claimed to be..

@Chili Palmer

The frontrunner to take over the reins from Justin Trudeau on Sunday when Canada’s Liberal Party chooses its new leader is a tough-talking former Goldman Sachs executive who has compared President Trump to the Harry Potter villain Voldemort.

You did not live through or see this first hand troll. I did. Did you read the link you posted and comprehend it? I did, here are a couple of snips of what you posted dipshit that prove my point.

"Log exports to the Pacific Rim began in earnest after the Columbus Day Storm of 1962 generated billions of board feet of salvaged timber. This market was maintained and expanded owing to Japan’s demand for high-quality logs for its construction industry. Contentious debate surrounding disproportionate gains and losses to forest product market participants in the PNW (timber owners, mill owners, communities, and consumers) led to government intervention and restriction of volumes available for export. The debate ended and the market declined as a result of three factors: reductions in timber harvesting from PNW forests, changes in Asia’s demand, and globalization of wood markets. These changes with implications for trade and timber market participants are discussed."

What were the market factors that diminished PNW harvesting of timber?? I know what they were, do you? I lived in the area that was affected, at the time it happened and you did not. Your AI generated google search is severely lacking in detail of the political agendas that caused the major derailment of timber harvesting in the PNW in the 1990's.

You are a fucking idiot, I hope you keep extending your miss informed opinions that are well passed your ski tips to expose your BS view on the world to all who visit this website.

I live in the land of liberal left wing dipshits, but at least they try and process the sewage that is dumped in to the Puget Sound. Has Western Canada done the same?

I know the answer, it NO. Name another state in the US that doesn't process raw sewage and dumps it in to the ocean or a sound. Western Canada does this.

Tariffs will affect less than 5% of the USA GNP, and they probably won't last that long.
China walked back their comments Friday, and has asked for new talks.

"If Trump gets 50% of what he's asking for it'll be 100% more than what Brandon Biden got." -Bongino.

I'll pay a few more bucks for a HF Predator 3500.
Reported China has not lived up to trade agreements.

You seem to be rather confused, the swampland isn't western canada, it is the shithole on the coast and the island. And you might want to actually study the forestry industry up here before you spew anymore bullshit

Castro jr is just a fucking retard at the best of times. Totally agree!👍

And stop with the subsidizing bullshit, that is horseshit and trumpy is full of shit on that line
Look at the charts on the trade surplus/deficit to make your own conclusion on that one.
The trade deficit between Canada and the US is small potato compared to other foreign trade IMHO
A little long to read if you have a short attention span, lol. Our military is a boyscout team, compared to yours. but at least the US could use Canada as a buffer zone in case China, Russia, N Korea decides to have a joint effort to invade you guys from the North.

Just in, another useless idiot, replacing Trudeau. Hopefully he won't be Canada's PM for long. A top ex banker replacing an ex drama teacher. We'll be fucked for sure , unless he'll be gone after the next election this year.
He had previously steered his home country through the Great Recession as the governor of the Bank of Canada, the country's central bank, before being poached for Britain's top banking job. I'm hoping I'll be wrong about him, but he's still a liberal, so. I'm not holding my breath!

So are you saying the shithole is Vancouver and the inland islands of Canada? Prove me wrong those territories of Canada were not dumping raw sewage of the Puget Sound, inland Salish Sea of western Canada. Posture all you want, but I know the truth. Same as the annihilation of Western Washingtons logging industry due to Bill Clintons NAFTA, I lived through this in real time. Did you?

Yep the shithole on the island did dump sewage direct into the ocean, as did Seattle and many others. Vancouver and Victoria are complete leftist shitholes, as are Seattle and Portland

BTW have you forgot about the owl? Blame liberals and liberal supporters not free trade. Weyerhaeuser just came in and raped and pillaged and ran away... good company...not

I lived in Vancouver from 1971 til 2016. Vancouver always had sewage treatment at Iona Island along the fraser river. Most of the pollution that happened during the freighter ships coming through Juan de Fuca, dumping their human waste before entering the Georgia Strait, coming in to the Vancouver docks.
Yes , Victoria did letout effluent waste that finally ended with a waste management treatment plant. Greater Victoria's population is nowhere near of Everett, Seattle, Tacoma and Olympia it creating waste on their own in the US.;)

Victoria, British Columbia [ pop, 96,390 ] has a sewage treatment plant at McLoughlin Point in Esquimalt. The plant opened in December 2020 and treats wastewater from several municipalities in the Greater Victoria area.
Vancouver Island's population was 864,000 in 2021. How many lives in the Everett, Seattle,Tacoma and Olympia area? 🤔;)

Donny has stuck his head up his ass with what he has said, but we all know he has another angle behind the game and I hope he really fucks up trudy and the retard carney with that game
Trudy, Carney and the liberals were way down three months ago and now it is a statistical tie.

No one has done more for the liberals in Canada than Trump.

Go into the forums where USA lumber industry people congregate.
Foresters, lumberjacks, tree farmers,,
They say Canada has been fucking the USA with lumber for a very long time.

I suspect this will get settled soon enough especially with the Biden recession taking hold.

Markets don't like this instability.

DEI is a win
Doge is a win, hopefully 100% of the savings come out of the first budget - we'll see.

Treating tariffs like a tip at a restaurant you can add or remove at a whim fucks with long term investments all over the globe.
The amount of work required to reset pricing over and over is staggering.

Bullying Canada is like picking on the 90 pound kid up the street.
Sure you can do it, but what's the point.

Trolling Canada as a whole is silly. Troll that fucking Dog Ford of Ontario. I'm also pretty sure that Quebec is not aligned with Dog Ford. Quebec has the majority of the electricity and Alberta has the oil to supply to the US. Don't know how much Canada lumber is going into the US now a days, but I can tell you, while travelling on our BC highways, I don't see the same number of trucks of previous years hauling timber much at all.
I think Trump should calm down a bit and troll the idiots on X that we all know who they're. ;)

Ross, the same shit gets said up here, and some of those "canadian" companies are American, it is a diversion/distraction from the truth. The forestry industry is dead on both sides of the border from what it was 40 years ago. Retarded liberals/leaf lickers have had their feet on the neck of anyone and anything that they deem bad for the environment. We have 4 mills, 3 are specialty ones where we had 30+ years ago, as someone else said; you seldom see logging trucks around anymore.

The biggest problem with this whole deal is that our two countries have been so integrated for so long that separating them will cause excessive pain to both, not that I care about the east at all, they deserve it.

All funded by US eco terrorist shitheads, the same clowns that protest dirty oil.

The only real difference between the western US and western Canadian logging industries is a line on a map

The USA fucked the USA lumber industry by giving into the environmentalists. Environmentalists are the worst, they don't want you cutting down trees, but they still want a home to live in built of lumber, and they want the paper to wipe their ass with.
