I don't know with who or when the divide started, but probably long before recorded time. People, like your mystery hippy, paint with a broad brush. It helps no one. I don't believe any one side, but I have my own beliefs. I don't wish to change people's opinions, I just wish they'd form their own, and not blindly adopt another's.There is certainly a struggle of ideology occurring in not only this country, but the world.
Technology in all aspects of our lives is exciting for some and scary intimidating for others.
Some are anxious to leap into tomorrow, others of us are grappling and grasping to remain with what's familiar and gives the impression of being secure.
Some want slow and careful measured progression, others want to race into tomorrow with abandonment.
Some want to live in a compound impenetrable from the outside, some want all the doors and windows wide open.
Some feel we're doomed with we don't do something, some feel we're doomed if we do, do something.
Who's right ? Who's wrong ? Meanwhile the moderate middle is being drowned out by the extremist of both sides desperately vying for support.
One undeniable fact is, if there's a need and an opportunity for profit, technology will be stimulated to create it.
Politicians are using that and creating the need, by mandating policies that support their own agendas and ideology. In turn they get continued financial support from those striving to cash in later.
My first real introduction to the division between political ideologies was when I was 17 and our garage rock band decided to jump in my rhythm guitar player's VW bus and drive from our homes in Tustin CA to San Francisco and see what this Haight Ashbury Hippie BS was all about first hand.
Went from camp fire to some honey's tents in Big Sur, then onward north we trekked.
After getting seriously fucked up and spending the night crashed in a heap with a bunch of musky smelling hippies, the next day we continued north across the bridge to clear away the mental fog bank.
Enjoyed the serene beauty of the Muir Woods, then finally pulled up at some foggy unknown beach and crashed for the night.
Next morning I awoke early, on an amazingly beautiful morning, feeling aware and awake, and wandered down this beautiful beach to take it all in.
There sitting on a rock outcropping was a very pretty young lady of similar age. After making proper introductions, we sat together for over an hour just talking, nothing personal, more about the area and it's beauty.
We were hitting it off as if we were kindred souls having finally found each other, I really really liked this girl and was inclined to believe she had felt likewise.
Finally in conversation she inquired where I was from. I had no reservations in revealing that I was from Tustin, she looked puzzled, so I added that it was in Orange County.
It was like I'd ignited a very short fuse, igniting a bomb that exploded her up onto her feet.
"OH, she proclaimed, from Orange County, California ?" to which I replied affirmative.
"OH, you're one of THEM, you're a --- ARRGGGHH ---- ORANGE COUNTY REPUBLICAN" and before I could utter another sound, she'd spun, leaped off the rock and was gone, headed up the beach to wherever she'd come from.
Imagine learning that about one's self, that I wasn't who I thought I was, but one of THEM .
Of course my immediate shattered heart only wanted to rush home and blame my parents, this was all their fault, how dare they !!!!!
This was in 1966 and my introduction to ideological bigotry.
With the Hippy girl's crazy showing T, right outa the gate, in 1966?? I'd say you said just enough to make a clean getaway. Still in California, that crazy girl could've made your life a living hell. That's what they do. Oh yeah, It's an E ticket ride, with a very steep price. There is certainly a struggle of ideology occurring in not only this country, but the world.

This wasn't just any hippie, not like the tribe we'd encountered at Haight or Big Sur. This young lady might have burned incense and toked a J, but she her fragrance wasn't musk, it was lilac and jasmine. She was a high rent district, beach front "Muir Woods" hippie. With the Hippy girl's crazy showing T, right outa the gate, in 1966?? I'd say you said just enough to make a clean getaway. I found trouble TWICE before I discovered # 3 and marital bliss --- so yeah, it wasn't until I hit 30 that I started thinking more with my big head.Well said T. I think you called it. Kumbaya and the Utopia of normalcy sure would be nice. "People are People, so why,,,"
Whew anyway. She sounded like trouble to me.
Glad you found a keeper.I found trouble TWICE before I discovered # 3 and marital bliss --- so yeah, it wasn't until I hit 30 that I started thinking more with my big head.
Just a bit of FYI --- that fan is actually a 1892 Edison 6 Blade Fan, I was unique from other Edison fans because it had 6 blades and if you bought one ----- " It was originally supplied with a set of Type S Edison-Lalande cells, consisting of four very heavy porcelain cells in a large wooden box .
I like the ignition coils on the Model T. Housed in a similar wooden box. So were telephones, super cool old stuff.Just a bit of FYI --- that fan is actually a 1892 Edison 6 Blade Fan, I was unique from other Edison fans because it had 6 blades and if you bought one ----- " It was originally supplied with a set of Type S Edison-Lalande cells, consisting of four very heavy porcelain cells in a large wooden box .

In my buddy's shop, he has an old porcelain sign for Eveready Batteries. It shows a farmhouse, lit up in the night. Some of the "off grid" people were way ahead of their time. Cool stuff, like single cylinder Maytag engines...gas powered washing machines!I like the ignition coils on the Model T. Housed in a similar wooden box. So were telephones, super cool old stuff.
Like the old Harrahs' auto museum in Reno, acres of quiet warehouses with cars from the early years, forward.
Amazing technology of the time. Battery, Internal combustion, Steam. Gas street lamps. Electrification of America.
Long may She live.
You mean THIS seawall?Don’t forget Obamas ocean front house in Hawaii! And the state building a seawall for him at taxpayers expense!
It's ironic how they were able to make "Improvements" to the property, but others can't get the approval.Yeah, that is the wall that they were allowed to build. Yet the rest of the neighbors have not been able to build since they have owned properties for generations.
The classic “Rules for the not for me!!!!”
Someone needs to tag that wall,"Big Mike's Place".
Our son did say that the wall was tagged last year when they we out at his friend’s house. Sadly I don’t think that it was anything about ”Big Mike”Someone needs to tag that wall,"Big Mike's Place".
That is it! Public records should show who paid for the wall! Spoiler alert, it wasn’t the Obamas!
