Dean Jeffries old shop. Very well know custom painter and car builder that got his start in the '50s. He's also the guy that built the 2 Monkee mobiles and the first guy to paint a car with metal flake paint. Hung with James Dean and Von Dutch. Passed away a few years ago.

I was just thinking of Used Cars.
That clip above of Thunderbolt and Lightfoot reminded me of it

Yes, Mark I had the 260 and Mark II were 289. A buddy I worked with had one with a turboed Boss 302 and 930 Porsche flares.

One of the riggers at Hawaiian back in the 70s had a Tiger with big flares on it.

It may have been the car he bought. He wanted one w/o flares but this car had CA plates with "TIGER" on them and the owner transferred them as part of the deal. It was unfinished when he bought it, he kept the flares, did a bunch of work and ended up with a unique Tiger.

Could be? The plates sound familiar as back then in the mid 70s (maybe a little before?) is when they first came out. Were they the old blue plates? I still have them on my truck, since '76.

...Friend of mine owns the dead on replica of the Kookie car...It sits in the NHRA museum next to Ivo’s T...
...The real car has been bastardized so badly would be very difficult to bring it back ...Although it just sold at a Mecum auction for $440,000 I believe???

Yes, they were blue with yellow characters. I'll try to find a pic of the car, I know it was in at least one mag.

you're right, it's amazingly fucked up but I think it could be returned to it's original condition, its basically still there under all the modifications.
Your friend own the Von Franco clone? I know there have been several through the years.

I'm not much of a fad T guy but both the Ivo and Grabowski T's are (were) bad ass.

...Much of the work on both the Grabowski and Ivo T’s was done by another friend Gary Emory’s father Neil Emory and his uncle Clayton Jensen...of Valley Custom...
...Folklore says that as new things were done to Norms T...Ivo would follow suit...dunno???...

I don't know, your friend would have the inside scoop having known normie poo, but the front spring, mount and 37 tube axle look to still be on the car, who knows what else? It will be interesting to see what the new owner does with it.
We knew Norm very very slightly in the late 60s and into the 70s when my dad really got into 53-6 F100's. Norm had a bitchen chopped black 54 and was in Pickups Limited. My dad was in an off shoot of that club, and later so was I, called Classic Pickups. That was a fun time and we drove the snot out of our trucks and of course all the different clubs would be at all the same events. Norm was a very funny guy, very approachable especially to a 16 year old kid like I was who not only knew him from his cars but my dad told me he was an actor and we'd try to spot him in the films he was in.

View attachment 668673 ...The original Baja Bug...Don’t think it was in any films but it was on billboards all over the world...VW advertising campaign...
Hey Willie what you are looking at here is the very first Baja Bug built by Neil Emory of Valley Customs in the "Valley" all out of steel and it was on Billboards all over and Neil was a very talented man. That is his son Gary in the photo whom Neil built it for and Gary's son customizes 356 Porsche's into Rat Rods and has been featured on Leno's Garage.

Gary used to own the general store at the end of our street.

...The Buick in the pic is a ‘57...which I dont remember...I remember the ‘55 vividly...The CHP actually used stick shift V-8 Buick’s and over the years I have seen a couple former CHP ‘55 cars...
There is a late 40's or early 50's CHP car parked at a house, that I pass on Hwy 36 in Humbolt County.

...All true...(but think it was built in Newport after the Emory family had bailed out of the Valley and set up camp at Chuck Iverson Porsche in Newport) Gary is a good friend of mine...Although not as much a hands on guy as his dad...his brother Don or his son Rod...Gary is and has been very much a huge part of the visionary process of all things Emory...And for some reason or other doesn’t give himself enough credit???...Dunno???...

Interesting???...Wonder if it is a real CHP???..

After looking around on the interweb, it appears to be a 1954 Pontiac Chieftain. The pics are terrible, because it is a cell pic, from a long ways away, on a dreary day. You can't see it in the pics, but it says California Highway Patrol on the door. I would imagine it is real.
