I left the Midwest 2 days after I bought my first car. Actually an S10 truck. I was 19 at the time. Not once have I regretted it.

I wanted the kids to see some of the places that people travel across the world to see. Lived here my whole life, but I rarely venture over there.

I love Switzerland and visiting historic sites in Europe for about 10 days. Then nothing tops getting off the plane in Burbank and home sweet home.
Wife doesn't want to move back there for all the reasons mentioned in this thread.

When we did the weekend trips before moving here, we would play the game of guessing temp difference of Havasu and Torrance. Largest was 114 to 58. Really wanted 57 so it would be 1/2. lol. Was a tad chilly getting home in tank top and flip flops.

Back to work today til tues in so cal then back to Parker tues night-fri then back to Peoria. Love the part time work and flexibility. I hate weekend crowds
