Played Los Serranos North again this morning. Played as a single with a nice family.
(Husband, wife, son). Great people, slowwww players. We went off 2nd, little over a 4 hour round. Didn’t see the group ahead of us after the 2nd hole😬. Really good round once I stopped hitting an inch behind the ball. Took some mean divots.

Went back out this morning. 😁. We were supposed to babysit our granddaughter but she got sick and their plans changed.
5:38 Tee time on the South course. Turns out that it’s still dark. The group I joined let me borrow a LED rock (ball) to play #1. Ended up buying a UV light/ball package for future use.

Pic makes it look much better than it was.

Didn’t want to effect your round but it’s a pretty tight course and driver isn’t always the best choice off the tee.
I’m never using my driver there again Jzus.. No Lie I shot a 82 last week at Los Sorranos I’m not even gonna say my score !

Playing Cross creek in Temecula never played it well see 👀
Lol I played that many years ago in HS. The rough was so dam thick that it ate balls. Our team shot the worst ever and blew out undefeated season. I still remember most of the round lol. After a shitty start I chipped in for an eagle and thought it's game time now, then proceeded to shoot a 118 lol..not that was a great but I was a high 80s to low 90s back then.

I need to go play it now to redeem my self.

First round where I could grip and swing normal after getting my thumb caught between a pontoon and a bunk. Carded an 87 with seven 3 putts, ended up with 38 putts, way above my average of 28.5 over my last 8 rounds but kinda impressive with 6 3 putts lol. I drained several 15 plus footers but I got the yips on the close putts, fully in my head, I missed a ton of 2 to 3 footers. 1 ob on 18 as well so that didn't help. Everything else was decent, nothing great but played good enough to score well, just imploded on the greens.

That’s a great round and a lot of 3 putts😬. Good news is that’s easy to fix.

Ya definitely. It's an anomaly for sure. I maybe have 1 3 put every couple of rounds so this was insane lol.

For me, scoring in the mid to high 70s was enjoyable golf. Little chance I’d ever get much better. But, I enjoyed the hell out of it. Started playing when I was 9. Good times, some nice courses with some good friends and family. I do miss it. Back/leg trouble. Had to pick my battles. The last round I played was on the Lone Pine CA course. Somewhat of a dog patch. But, it was also at the base of Mt Whitney and the Alabama Hills. Some amazing views and a good time. Shot an 81 with too many 3 putts. Ya, I do remember it. And also the pain I was in the next morning while hiking and fishing the creeks in the area.

5:24am tee time at Los Serranos North. 😳. Played with a glow n the dark ball for the first 2 1/2 holes at even par. Doubt i could repeat it. Not real easy to read putts in the dark.

I never really taken a divot, so more of a pick it clean swing. I've got my index down below 10 with it but I think I'm as far as I can take it being a not great ball striker. Plenty of swing speed and power but really I think being decent off the tee over this season and a good approach and short game is what has carried me. I average around 280ish and will push 300 so most par 4s i am left with a short iron in, par 5's will go diver 5 wood or 7 wood and I hit those well enough to keep the score low. But I think I have to get better and more consistent at ball first then ground striking. So the last couple range session has just been my gap to 9 iron but shit it is hard to to make this change after YEARS of not picking it. I introduced the forward shaft lean at address last year after lessons and that got me closer but it is so rare when I feel it being compressed. I am taking a shorted swing and trying to look just in front of the ball but my eyes jump back to the ball almost every time and then I am all fucked up lol. I hit maybe 15 or 20 really pure shots at the range today and the carry with a short easy swing is the same as the full swing with the picking it clean with so much less effort. But ya undoing the last 25 years or so is pretty dam hard lol.

Sounds just like my swing, I've always picked it clean for the most part. I have tried to hit down to take a divot w little to no success!

Ya, I've messed around with trying for years but always gave up. But I think for me at least, the only way I'll see the improvement in looking for if to finally get better at striking.

Do you hit the ball higher than most? I hit the ball waaaaayyyy too high, 8 iron is about 150 to155 yards on average and probably 130 to 150 feet high.

Ya I hit real high unless I'm trying to play the wind or something. But I'm fitting into my irons and shafts to at least bring into manageable without tweaking the lofts. My 8 is my 165 club.

Two ways to hit the ball high. Back spin/pinching the ball to create height vs picking/hoisting the ball in the air. Somewhere in between is a penetrating ball flight great for drives and wind. I don’t charge for my artwork.

The other factor is loft. Callaway started the games years ago. 9 degree drivers were really 10+ to make people feel like they were pros. 7 irons were close to 5 irons to make every feel like the bombed it.
A comparison of popular 7 irons varies from 30 degrees to 35. Pitching wedge from 44 to 47. Between the loft differences and shaft options things get a little tricky picking clubs. If your pitching wedge is 44 degrees you’ll need at least one extra wedge in the bag.

Yup exactly. I game the pxgs so these are my lofts, my old Callaway x2 we're the same for the most part. Except for mine is five iron through wedge then I had the gap wedge bent a little to get a few extra yards out of it. So my gap is a 47. Then I carry a 50 and 54.

But like I mentioned distance is not a problem. I'm looking for better ball striking and consistency with my flight pattern. Even with the swing as is I can adjust my launch angle pretty good and can work the ball both ways is not consistently. Just going to practice the hell out of it and try not give up on it like I have in the past lol.

If you figure out the secret let me know😁. I’m playing as well as i have in a long time. My iron game is solid but i can’t hit my driver to save my life. Can’t get both parts going. I know it’s in the set-up but just can’t dial it in. If i were hitting my driver as far as you were I’d just go putting from there😂

Just starting to play again, mainly eldorado and course is plush from LB open a few weeks ago. Not even keeping score yet, no reason to know if I shot 105 or 115, maybe when i can stripe the ball consistently I might break out a score card.

Lol will do. This is probably the best I've hit my driver ever and that's what's saving my irons. Most likely I'll get the irons figured out and then I won't be able to driver anymore

I am nowhere near as good as a golfer as you but tried changing my grip on my driver only. I bought a new one and was pathetic with it. I have been messing with my grip and might have found a happy medium today.

My new driver was a heavy fade for some reason, not a slice but it just faded and was short. I started trying to turn my right (bottom) hand a little more open but not with a strong grip. More than anything, I think I figured out that my graphite shafted clubs (3,7,driver) need a little different grip than my other clubs.

What driver is and is the loft adjustable? If it is adjustable if you increase the loft it actually closes the club face some.

I had mine set all the way down at a 7 for a long time not knowing better because I wanted lower flight and more roll and I have a higher swing speed, my miss was right most of the time, not really a slice just pushing right. Adjusted to a 9 and got it straightened and now I'm working a baby fade to try and help the roll a little.
