So when you’re not sure where or what type of shot is coming the best defense is to narrow your focus. Most people start “aiming for the middle” but if you actually shrink your target and pick a very specific place you want the ball to go you’ll improve your chances for success
More of an aim small miss small. Good advice!

Bettinardi SS Thompson - Limited Edition 196/500.

I paid $900 for it a few months ago, willing to let go to RDP member for $700. Putter is in perfect condition with original grip.

Not my listing, but for price reference:

Played Los Serranos North today. Booked it as a single late last night. Ended up playing with the longest hitting 65yr old I’ve ever seen. He carried it 270/280. Played a Krank driver xx stiff😳. If he could hit wedges it would’ve been a low round.
I backed into an 80. Didn’t hit anything impressive, made quite a few 4-6’ par putts. Course is in good shape overall. Greens are pretty dialed considering the heat they’ve gone through the last few months.

So La Quinta was nice, but most courses are still closed for reseeding. I hit Silver Rock on opening day. Teeing off at 7:12 we were the third group out on the new grass. No divots, no skid marks, it was in amazing shape. It is tucked right up against the mountainside. The development is called Talus. It has new $3MM homes being buitl now. all presold. Two hotels, convention space and a clubhouse. Apparently the City of La Quinta is the owner. I did OK at a course I never seen and shot an 86. Hard to sink putts. Greens were young and slow. I played as a single, and was paired with a 78 year old beast of a man. He's 6'3" and weighs 240. Arms like my thighs. He'd still kick ass in a bar fight. Every one knew him as he's a regular there. He said he shoots his age a few times a season. Friday he put down an 83. It helps to know the layout. I'd play here again. Cost was $179 for me, but $68 for a resident.

Saturday my tee time was at 6:56 so I was up and out before the sun came up. We stayed at a really nice complex next door to the La Quinta Resort. I couldn't get a time at any of their courses this trip due to overseeding schedules. Since it was 104* during the mid day I picked a bargain spot for Saturday's round just because of the early tee time. Indian Palms. They are an old resort with three 9 holes courses. Built in the 1940's. I played Mountain and Indian. Both were in pretty rough shape. There's no overseeding going on here. Lumpy greens and rough patches interspersed with overgrown brown rough. LOL I think I lost five balls that should have been in play if they mowed the place. The photo is of the nicest holes on the way in on 8 and 9. The grass by the clubhouse definitely gets more water than the grass out in the boonies. For $50 I didn't really expect a lot. Fees did include a cart and a half dozen tees. At Silver Rock they had a cart girl, and a cooler with ice and waters and a ball washer included on your cart. This cart... not so much. No GPS either. Between the shit conditions and my tired muscles I carded an embarrassing 98 at this place. I would not go back if there was another option.

Played Avi on Friday after getting stuck behind one of Laughlin Ranches unending tournaments. Took 1.5 hours for 2 holes there on Wednesday. We just signed up for another year there so we’ll see how it goes.

Playing Sierra lakes tomorrow then Dos Lagos Weds. 😁we will see how it goes!
Worked at Sierra lakes way back before houses. We’d make up our own holes! Tee off on hole one and play to hole 3 green. Did the same thing at a couple country clubs I worked at on Mondays too. Good times.

She looks like she’s just getting broken in 😂
I’ve had it for 25ish years. First trip out was a vendor deal in Monterrey. New sales guy was a bit of a jackball, pretty inexperienced in sales and golf. He did the “unhook the strap” deal on the cart for my bag on the first hole. I took off, he was dying laughing. New putter ended up with a “huge” gouge on it. Now it just blends in. 😂
Old school caddies always get a kick out of it.

You are a nicer man than me. I would have thrown his entire golf bag in the middle of the pond and then kicked him in the nuts. Lol

Played Iron Wolf this morning. It was a little cold but not too crazy. Started off very slow, couldn’t make a putt the first 4 holes. Couldn’t miss the last 3 holes!😳 Went birdie, birdie on the par 5’s and then holed out from 140 on 9!

My wife decided she wanted to take up golf. We play this par 3 and 4 old peoples course not far from the house. It is only $35 and my wife was finally able to play a full round last week. She’s had a few lessons and we are trying to play once a week here.

As close as I have ever been on a par 3. I think it was 142 yards.

edit…and I missed the *&^%$,ing putt. Lol

Played Oak Valley in Beaumont for a two day tournament. Very challenging course, played about 5 over my handicap. The course is in great shape, the pro? shop was empty of merchandise..... 3 pairs of shoes, 14 shirts total. about 20 gloves...... didn't see anything else. Looks like it is about to close. but employees said no, just low on stuff.....

If you anywhere close, I would go play it.

I doubt it will close. Ownership has very deep pockets and a golf school they run out of there for students from outside the USA. Not saying it won’t close just saying not likely

1st course I ever worked on the maintenance crew while going to college.

Haven’t played there in quite awhile but it was on the regular rotation for a long time. Great track. Not a boring hole on the course.

Hit Iron Wolf again this morning. Course is coming along nicely. The greens are filling in and they’re letting the rough get a little longer. Really looking forward to the back 9 getting completed. I talked to iron wolf last week, they said all 18 should be open before new years!
I'm looking to get at least one round in next week if anyone would like to join, I'll be rolling in Tuesday evening thru Sunday.

I give those to Ron cuz I hate to see a grown man cry when he misses, or worse yet throw his putter into the lake again!

Played Twin Oaks in Vista on Friday. It was a bit chilly. So was my putting. And driving. LOL

Missed two birdies by inches. A handful of pars was nice, but a couple lost balls cost me.

I like that course. The par 5 on #2 is Pretty narrow off the tee, pretty daunting considering it’s only the second hole.

Made it out to Sea n Air yesterday. My old Navy golf buddy had his 73rd birthday. He retired as a Command Master Chief after 20 years. Viet Nam vet. He's slowing down, but still loves to play. Its sad to see his loss of strength over the years but he is dealing with tumors and cancer issues. Agent Orange exposure is a thing.

His retired status gets him on bases to play the golf courses and I am happy to be his guest. There's a few military courses in San Diego. MCAS Miramar has a flat basic course. Sea n Air is on NAS Coronado. A couple holes run right along the beach. You can see the beachfront bar that was the basis for the bar in the Top Gun movies from the green on hole 15. Camp Pendleton's course is along the bottom of canyons so it is a bit more challenging. We don't get there too often due to the long drive but it is a nice course. Admiral Baker is now open to the public, but was previously not. Baker is not on a base. It has two 18's, with a South and a North Course. The North being more of a challenge. At Sea n Air there's often fighter jets landing, transpo planes coming in and out and the hearty thumping of helicopters in the air. At 08:00 the National Anthem plays out over speakers. Everyone comes to a stop and faces towards the music or a flag if you can see one. It's kinda special.

Played well yesterday, and would have broken 80 if my putter was bit more finely tuned. Played the same ball for the whole round. That's a bit of a rare occurrence. Hope to get out again soon.

Coming into the sort of off season for CA I got slammed with work and not putting much practice or even rounds in and it was showing, when I did have time we would just go play, no warm up just go. Scores were horrible. Played and practiced a bit more over the last month or so and played once this week and things were starting to come back to normal. Shot an 84 with a strange front 9, 5 pars, 1 bogey, 2 doubles and a triple. The doubles and triple came in row 2nd though 4th holes.
