That’s what I was expecting. Neighbors boat lift got zapped from Helene and he just got back home from overseas with one day to prep. His scout CC was in the water half ass tied. Made it though.

Is FabTech still happening? We were thinking of going, but decided against due to the news of the hurricane this week.

It is still happening. Hall is closed for set up today, it reopens tomorrow at 7:00 am. Trade show is open to the public Tuesday-Thursday. I suspect attendance to be down, so it might be a great year to attend. I am not attending I hate trade shows.

There several companies that make some sort of version of the automatic boat cover.

The very first time I saw a power boat cover was on Marco Island. The one I saw was more like a drape style. Either way, if they could also ad a push button boat wash too, I would be beyond happy.

However…….. I hate being Debbie Downer. Even though I posted a video of the automated boat cover, they are actually not allowed in my county. They are considered fixed boat shelter. There are no boat lift covers/canopies/shade covers on East Coast, that I am aware of. I wish they did allow it.

There is nothing easy about keeping a boat in salt water. Your already 10 steps ahead with the lift. The problem with the lifts is that they are sitting in salt water all day instead of your boat and the tanks have saltwater inside and out. Keeping those floating is just as much work as the boat. As I finish typing this I'm thinking this is all shit you already know lol.

I didn’t shoot any video of my boat. However, the winds came out of the south the entire time…….. so it pulled my boat evenly away from the dock. This was ideal and perfect. Because of this, I really only had to worry about pulling a cleat or snapping a line. The highest wind gusts reported in Pompano Beach was 52mph. When this would happen, I would get nervous, but I had to rely on the fact I did everything I could do. I am actually glad I did not pull my boat. But it’s easy think that way in hindsight. Lol

Right now……… I am drinking a few “cups of inspiration” before I start dismantling my boat lift. I’d like to get my boat back on lift before I start getting barnacles on the bottom.

The Melbourne area, really a nothing burger. Storm tracked North leaving us pretty much alone. Wind gusts of around 50mph. Did not lose power. There were Tornados in the area, that did concern me. One touched down about 10 miles North that was the closest. Close to 520/A1A.

My house has impact windows all round. With everything closed up could barley hear the wind. Slept like a baby.

wow, the devastation there is incomprehensible. Some houses look fine and the one next door is completely decimated.
How will the landfills be able to absorb all that mess? It must be transported to neighboring states or something?
The mental anguish of having to clean all that shit up seems crushing. That would be very hard to wake up to. Seems like it would take years to get back to normal only to have to go through it again in a future season. Florida looks like an amazing place to live until this happens, then not so much. I hope the loss of life is minimal. Crazy to think anyone would attempt to stay put during that size of storm but I'm sure some did?

The kids reported from Parrish. They are doing fine. Power is out and cell service is spotty. No other issues, thankfully. It looks like most of the RDP inmates came through mostly unscathed.

Glad everyone is safe. This was the worst worst we have experienced since we have been here the last three years. The winds were insane but we have no damage except quite a few trees down on our lot behind us and no flooding. 140 miles North of Sarasota. Lost power all night and half of yesterday but we have a generator so all is good.

I just know……. One day it’s going to be my neighborhood. Maybe I should leave before that happens? Do I want to be a future disaster victim?

I was born, raised and grew up, worked, got married all in Michigan. Built a house in Melbourne, Florida 2004 retired in 2005 did the snow bird thing till Augusr 2022. Full time now in Florida. I would never move any place it gets below 60 ever. (actually below 70 is too cold) Had my fill of driving/shoveling snow. Does it get hot here ... yup I love it.

Considered Lake Havasu love the hot there as well. But my son got a job in Melbourne so moving to Florida became an easier choice.

Hurricanes here yup, gonna be some crap in most places, pick your poison.

They lost some roof tiles and had some damage to the lanai, but it's a rental . . . . She said they are leaving the shutters up for the next one that's coming, though.

We were fortunate to live in Florida, November thru July, West Palm and it was/is great. Expect particular situations when owning a boat in FL. Hurricane season. Out of the water, stacked storage might be good for a trailered boat. Lifts work well for some. The damage seen from Milton is varied wind, surge, rain and tornado. Lots of tornado damage. Totally different from the expected/typical hurricane situation. You could have moved your boat hundreds of miles, then get hit by a friggin tornado. Abnormal amount of tornados with this one. To me, Florida remains a boater’s paradise. But, it does come with particular caution and, at times, a price. Looks like all FL RDP inmates did OK?
