It's so confusing. The media reports TV tell us wind speed may reach be 80-90 mph for Melbourne, Florida.

Yet multiple Hurricane / Weather app's indicate 37 mph tops. Does the media error on the side of safety or what? Or are the Hurricane / Weather apps that far off??

When Helene came through the weather app was off about 8mph.

I've seen some of that. I'm on the East coast about 4.5 miles west of the Ocean. Just south of Cocoa Beach.

Fortunately for the residents in my area did not see any increases in fuel costs. regular mostly $2.89 - $3.06 a gallon.

My niece told me two days ago that there was no more fuel. They had plenty for the generator, but they couldn't drive anywhere if they wanted to.

edit: I see my post is a bit confusing. They had plenty of fuel in their vehicles already. She was just making the point that the gas stations are empty. They never planned to leave.

My Uncle did that to my Grandma's carport in her park. She has just got stamped concrete done for her driveway right before Irma. My Uncle went to her house and put some redheads in with a d-ring.

My grandma came home after the hurricane and bitched my uncle out for drilling into her new driveway. My Uncle says, "ma, look around you have the only fucking carport left in the park!" Grandma lost that day.

My longtime friend posted 18 hours ago, she and her husband will leave the Tampa area in the AM. Planned on driving to Tallahassee, about 240 miles. Can’t even imagine the traffic and likely shortage of gas. I wish they’d left earlier. Have a young friend who sat out a hurricane in Port St Joe Fl, panhandle area. Said it was the stupidest thing he had ever done. Swore, never again.

Fill it every day when done driving. Waiting till the last day, not a good outcome.

Kinda like planning a big boating weekend, first of the year. You wait till the morning of.. all the family comes over and you pull it out of the garage where it has been for 6 months and say lets go, having never started of checked anything . what could go wrong.

Her point was just to say that she was glad they got fuel for the generators because the local gas stations were out on Monday.

One tank of fuel wouldn't get them out of Florida in the traffic. She's smarter than to try to get out two days before it hits along with everyone else. If you get stuck on the interstate, you're screwed. But I can see how my post was confusing.

If your house is solid and the water surge will not affect you. Just hunker down. Only fear would be a tornado.

Not being contrary, but being unfamiliar with those poles, what happens if the wind blows hard towards the dock ? Anchors on the other side perhaps ? I do see one fender, perhaps there's more ?

Im seeing alot of FB posts that the gas stations say they are empty and have the pumps wrapped in stretch wrap but when the people cut them open they have gas and are able to fill up. NOt a conspiracy theorists but thats just WEIRD like Walz

The wind is currently blowing directly at dock. The wind is bouncing off my building and actually pushing boat away from dock. That is ideal. However, the direction is going to change. When that happens, and the whips can no longer keep boat off dock, then the boat will rest along side the 5” piling pads that are on every piling. I did put a fender on my ladder, because the corner of my boat was hitting it the other night. But I have made adjustments and added lines since then.

Right now news says we have 41mph gusts in Pompano. I am expecting the worst wind at 4 to 6 am tomorrow.

All I know…….. I’ll probably be spending a lot of time staring down at my boat.

Its a ghost town on the waterway right now.

My boat is self draining with 4 oversized scuppers. Then each hull has automatic bilge pumps. However, the boat automatically drains so well, I rarely get much water in my sponsons. A World Cat is also unsinkable. Just like a Boston Whaler.

I have to have faith that my World Cat is top tier………. Because I sure am depending on their choice of cleats! Lol

Those are called Mooring Whips. They are ubiquitous in SoFlo. I have the longest they make…… 18’. They have rollers at the tips, then cleat, on the flexible pole, mounted into a base that has movement. I’d never seen them before I moved to Florida. I never saw them in Parker. They actually work pretty well. I paid around a $1000 for the set up. Glad I did too. I am riding out this storm in my backup dock.

I'd probably just moor it in the channel with 5 bags of concrete wrapped in rebar, wrapped in packing wrap. A long mooring line. I have no experience with 120mph wind or 10-foot tidal surge. I'm watching and learning. My experience is surviving a 15-30 minute thunder storm, with 60 mph gusts.

We have them on our dock in Parker. Got to be honest I was not a fan at first but after using them and seeing them in action am a fan now.

Been through a few storms (nothing like you’re about to experience l) amd every holiday weekend and they have performed beyond expectation.
Mint sure I would trust them in your situation but have been wrong about them before.

I would guess that, much like the gas tank in your vehicle, you don’t want the tank to ever go empty. If it did, you would suck up all of the crud at the bottom of the tank.
