@Shlbyntro , my old river neighbor called me up a couple weeks ago, wanted to know if I still play with cars. Well, he picked up a Cobra kit, unfinished roller. He's almost 70 now, and wants to keep it Ford powered, and 500ish hp. So, sometime in the fall, I may be starting on one of these things:oops:
The mythical parking lot 500 HP lol. He has no idea.

Well, he has an idea of horsepower, but I don't think an idea of the same power in a roller skate. He's had some fast cars in his life, and had two brothers that were drag boat guys. Honestly, I was thinking a stroker Windsor could be a reliable 350+ with a good sounding cam and a simple FiTech to keep the traditional look.

Seen many old guys loop their Cobras with far less than 500 HP on 15” BFG Radial T/As.

It'll end up being injected. Reasons being primarily ease of starting after sitting, and "driveability". The Weber type throttle body setup is also an option. Where this guy lives is right at 2k feet. Unfortunately, the fun roads shoot to 3k quick, and the beach is a 40 min run. Add to that, I'm at 5500...when I do a flathead, I get them jetted right, just by experience, then finish dial down there. A healthy 350 is a SOB to get a carb dialed to run decent (not great) both here and Flagstaff. That is less than a 2000ft swing. If it were me, I'd do 4 Webers...so I'd never be bored:D

Had a shop down the road that built them in Cali...you could tell who was getting their first test drives:oops:

Seems to me there is but one option here then.

meh its still injection.....

@monkeyswrench i have a complete 5.0 HO injection setup in a box. MAF, ECM, Harness all of it if your guy is interested
From my "early days", I have some Accufab stuff stashed away. Those were the first harnesses I learned how to swap. For the look, I'd like to do the stack type setup. He was actually thinking Coyote. They are like LS motors to me. They make great power, fairly easily, but just don't sound the same. Much the same way from an EFI to a carb though as well.

My Roush is pushing 600hp in my Cobra and has been turnkey. Tell your friend to take his time to get used to the car. A car with a 90" wheelbase that weighs in at 2400 pounds is a completely different animal. My Cobra is the first car I have owned that has truly scared the shit out of me. It gives you zero warning that is about to swap ends if you get into it too hard in a turn.

Car looks great Shlbyntro!

Even better!

Coyote in a Cobra… should be good to 8200 :)

Can you recommend a good hop up shop in so cal, i got a 2005 GT with a blower on it, i would like to get suspension done and maybe some tuning. The thing will literally move you over a lane when you get on it and hit a bump in road, little to sketchy for me.

If it's a metallic color don't do a single stage, do a 2 stage

The paint says it can go down as a single stage and I have seen it worked with before in a metallic grey. The end product is very good. That being said, I already have a gallon of compatible clear and the whole car will be getting cleared over after the stripes are laid down.

Never heard of clear going over a single stage paint without the clear peeling within a couple years

They claim it can be and multiple individual reviews would appear to verify. Of course Ive never painted with anything that wasnt an aerosol or brush before so it will all be a new experience to me

I asked the same question about single stage at the PPG store due to the fact the Daytona was painted in single stage. They said no problem clearing it. I did and no issues so far. Only been about a year and a half, but the clear adds some durability.

Just remember time to re coat. Might want to color then clear. Sand, stripe, sand, clear. I’m sure you’ve read the tech sheet. Fiberglass-static.

I‘d say that as long as you go by the paint manufacture’s requirements you should be good. It is all about the prep and chemicals used. You might have to give the fresh paint a light scuff but again go with the supplier’s recommendations. Not that of the know it alls of RDP.. 🤪🤪🤪🤪🤪 BTW, one of the best paint jobs I ever did was in a catalyzed polyurethane. The clear cost was just about indestructible within an hour of the work. You just have to make sure that you clean the gun after the paint as it will be hard to get done after the fact. 👍

Some inspiration....this a 20+ year old superformance. 351 punched out to a 427....original paint and a driver....not mine but a really nice replica.
Do you know what chassis number that is. Mine was built in 2004 #SPO-1715. Probably pretty close to mine.

Just saw this. Car left as the distributor parts came and it was good to go again. Let me see if I can find out. I believe he is original owner and has lived in N. California since he got it.

Sounds like it was just over 200 before yours assuming the numbers are sequential.....next up a Pantera is coming in....will start a new thread for that one if its still here when I get back from work.

Right before I moved, I had a neighbor trying to sell me a Pantera. Only problem is it was a finished car and outside my price range not that he was asking an unfair price for it. I enjoy the build anyway. It was a beautiful car though and the paint was really cool. It was a black metallic where depending on how the light hit it, it would sometimes look rootbeer brown and sometimes it would look deep purple.

My dad bought a mint Pantera from a classic car dealer back in the early 90's. Driving it home he smoked the engine. It had been sitting in their showroom with almost zero coolant and nobody checked before he drove off. The dealer ended up taking the Pantera back and he took a 63 convertible Vette they had instead. The Vette was cool but not as cool as the Pantera.

Welcome @Dave L @ Factory Five . She's a work in progress. I believe you were the one who helped me finally get that 4link figured out on my car. As you can see, I've pretty much come to a stopping point on the mechanical and have been working on the body. I have my spray gear on its way and she's almost ready for primer and the body pull!

check out what I found and ordered today! It bolts directly to the column, does blinkers, high/low beams, and the horn. only $25 and will suit the car much better than reusing the fox column parts

Where'd you get it, and what diameter column? It has a basic look so it doesn't stand out...I like it!

Ebay of all places, couldn't find the same or similar one anywhere else. says it's built for a 45mm Dia. column (1 3/4")
