So, do you have to pull the engine to replace the air filter? If so, you have a future in the automobile industry.

We'll all laugh and laugh when after he fires it up he reports all is well except some damned rattle. 🤣

Its going to rattle. No doubt about that. But nobody will be able to hear it over the straight side pipes.
Now that's the right attitude for a Cobra owner . 🤣
You've got to have an extreme sense of adventure and macho to sit there acting all calm while the soles of your shoes are melting and your pants leg is starting to smolder.

I'm trying to recall what engine my friend dropped in his. I remember his donor was similar to yours; a 5.0 Mustang and seems like he shipped motor out to get beefed up a bit. I'll never forget when he let me drive it and I pulled out into PCH with open road ahead and stuffed it going through gears.... man was that some brutal head snapping.... crazy power/ weight ratio kinda thing!

If it rattles too much or you're worried about the cowling.

Oh shes not a stock 5.0. This engine has less than 3,000miles on it and is only about 4 or 5 years old. I custom built it for the Mustang and it put out well over 400hp in its fuel injected configuration. I imagine its still near there even with the carburetor

I thought those were only used for ground effects and cav plates...😅

I gotta see the instruction book that came with this thing. Do you have to verify that you have all pieces before you start wrenching? Looks like a shit load of fun!

Here's your instruction manual, it's only 568 pages lol

I got my drive shaft installed today, it sure is a cute little thing! I also performed the pedal box modifications necessary to run my manual brake setup. I tried to mock it up but unfortunately there is no good way to install it with the body on the car. The body absolutely has to come off.

Maybe it was just the angle or the fact that the driveline is dropped (is it on jack stands or a hoist?) but it seems you only have an inch or so of engagement into the tail shaft of the transmission? Certainly needs to ride much further in IMO!

Factory 5's are cool little projects, every one of em fucky beyond belief, since they are each a bastardized make up of whatever the owner/builder uses...haha!

You would not believe the things I have seen "straightening up" a few of these...lets just say they were not even close to being road worthy!

I look forward to seeing yours go together!

closer to 2 inches of engagement. I ordered my car with a new drive shaft vs bastardizing the old one and the new drive shaft has a longer stub than stock.

She is on her way to her new home where work will finally be able to resume. she is also the last vehicle to be moved. 3.5 hours later she is loaded, all done 100% by myself with nothing but a handful of winch straps at a painful pace of 1-2 inches at a time.

but ya.... everything is starting to get real🥵😅😎

This is one of the last things to be moved to the new house. It is Glorias original crankshaft, cleanly broken between the #5 connecting rod and the 2nd main journal. I think Im going to have a small plaque made for the base now that she is gone.

I try to give myself an hour every day during the week for "me" time in the garage.

And just so everybody knows.

My Lightning, Ranger, and Fairlane are still for sale. Ill be sending the Lightning and the Fairlane to auction if I dont get any takers.

Shits getting real. I rearranged my shop today. I pushed the Cobra in the back where I can close the door to keep the rest of the shop clean while I sand and do the body work. Get ready for regular updates! It also meant pulling the Ultra forward so that I can get her ready for the season.

Good to see you working on it again. Way to many projects like that never get finished. They get started and stall somewhere in the middle then rot in the garage or eventually put out in the yard under a tarp at best.

When I built my T-bucket when I was 21 years old, I cut up an old chevy driveshaft I found and then cut/slit about a 10" piece of the extra tube....used hose clamps to clamp the split tube around the ends, then stick welded it all up once I smacked it around with a hammer and got the length right....worked like a champ. Balance doesn't really matter when it's only a foot long. lol

The older single diameter tube, I'd use a cutoff wheel and cut the weld where the yoke pressed into the tube. Cut down the tube, and get it as square as I could, and tap the yoke in leaving an 1/8 gap to the shoulder. Tack it in 4 spots, and roll it on the table. Hammer adjust, and weld the gap while rolling it on the table. Done a bunch...last one was on the low buck, LS swapped 49.

@Shlbyntro , my old river neighbor called me up a couple weeks ago, wanted to know if I still play with cars. Well, he picked up a Cobra kit, unfinished roller. He's almost 70 now, and wants to keep it Ford powered, and 500ish hp. So, sometime in the fall, I may be starting on one of these things:oops:

When I flew out of Dallas this AM it was warnings for tornado and golf ball sized hail. I have never been so excited to feel the wheels come off the ground. Get me the hell outta there!
First time I heard a tornado warning was driving I-40 to Knoxville. 2am, pouring rain, radio station broke in with the warning...some meteorologist that sounded like Kermit the frog🤣 Kermit goes on to say what towns will be effected. It meant nothing to me, I had no clue where I was, or where they were... The next highway sign listed those towns:oops:
I hammered down! Funny, grew up in earthquake country. Fine with the sudden suckerpunch they are. The warning of a possible maybe tossing you, that's scary!
I rolled into Knoxville about 4am. Way over logbook time, but I wasn't stopping where I "might" be hit by a tornado!

You have a lot more room in there, you need a bigger engine
My aluminum 3core radiator mounts at a 60° angle. All that extra space dries up pretty fast, and dont forget that the engine/trans is from my first car.

Ill save that for my gt40 kit car build 😜

Those things are super light so anything around 400 hp at rear wheels scats like a cat.... think my buddies kit had 400hp and going through those gears would move that head & neck plenty.

shes making a little better than 4 at the flywheel on this one backed up by 3.55s she should move just fine😁
