Bearing in the snout failed, broke the shaft
Mine did that last year. Luckily on our last trip. Pulled the whipple belt and finished the day then brought it home and dealt with it.

Does the engine get above idle with the blower not turning?

Actually yes! My wife climbed up under the bow as far as she could and the boat BARELY rolled over on plane. Once on plane we were able to cruise about 3200rpm. I stopped the throttle right at the point where it wouldnt make any more rpm and backed it off a hair. Was able to enjoy the rest of the day

You use OEM bearing or find a better quality one?

Is this a common issue?
I wouldn’t say common but I know of a few now.

mine did not. After I shut it off to assess the situation I couldn’t get it started again. The MAP sensor was probably freaking out or the rotor pack was seized not allowing airflow. Was a sitting duck outside Copper Canyon and I launched at riviera, I tried everything to idle back but no dice. Ended up waiting an hour anchored near shore for the best damn Uber ever. (BoatUS)

Fuck man, that buy hasn’t been what it should’ve been. Sucks to hear, you think it’ll be fixed by the regatta or did you even plan to go to begin with?

Really thinking about one of these. Hard to find one with a 525 that hasn't been whippled or majorly fiddled with.

Twin outboards would be good as well. Only 2 available right now, not sure about either of those.

yeah.. huge bummer, cant blame anyone though it is what it is. Fix it and get back on the water to enjoy what we all love. This was probably my last trip for the season in this boat

Yes I am booked to go to the regatta but now it looks to be without a boat. Just dont have the time to fix it how I want it. IF any of my fellow DCB owners want to let us tag along on the water I will bring a cooler full of beverages, pitch in for fuel and buy lunch. Party of 3 that are very relaxed. Otherwise I will probably just drive to the events to see the hardware and make the best of it

That’s because a stock 525 isn’t enough HP to make them work or be fun!

I ended up buying a complete snout because the shaft and hub was ruined. Ordered it from whipple, it had been revised since mine is an older one. Had to disassemble the whole thing and do rotor bearings and seals also because all the debris from the snout wound up in the front rotor bearings. Also had to get a new coupler and rotor hub.

Funny it wouldnt run, the bypass valve will provide plenty of airflow for at least an idle, but without running it wont make enough vacuum to open the valve.

Well I am the mechanic. If I have doubts I error on the side of caution. I'm not hard on my stuff and try to keep it in top form.

Hey I was wondering how much the overnight freight was on your new SCX?
Hahaha I wish.

Brought the lower drive home and taking it to menace marine. I pulled the upper cap off and inspected the gears and it looks fine.

Few pics from yesterday. Was really scary leaving the boat at Windsor for an hour while I went to go grab the truck.

Hopefully I make it to the DCB regatta.

I'd be nervous leaving it there too. Hopefully Dustin can get you squared away!

Should measure the distance from the edge of your rams to the drive. I really wanna do tabs and yours look like they’d be about perfect. But i also think you and i have discussed this before.
I think we did have this conversation. Bring your tape to the regatta. I'm sure you could configure the brace to work with your existing steering.

If something went "bang" and the drive went into nuetral, I would at least have the upper disassembled and inspected. The lower gears wear out and start to pit, but typically they dont break. I have broken 3 XR uppers before switching to the SCX. The XR clutch shaft in the upper is another weak link that is known to fail. I would suggest selling your XR upper while it's still in one piece and upgrade to the SCX as soon as possible.

i took apart the upper and steering cap. Didn’t see anything wrong. No metal shavings or pits in the gear.

I also did get a quote for the Scx and trying to make it happen. Only problem is I need to take off my extension box and helmet to be powdercoated.
