Night light centered above the toilet. 😉
That's a good idea. Motion activated and dimmable?
My wife buys these battery powered toilet lights on Amazon. They have a small led that illuminates inside the bowl in diff. Colors if you wish. Has a small box outside w/ motion detector and holds the 2 AA batteries. Has a small flat arm that extends across top of bowl and bends down into bowl. Toilet seat keeps it in place. Worx well. Just enough light to assist w/o blinding etc. Handy little things.

Just a thought, the new toilet/bidet combos have night lights, auto open features, and photocell technology, and do everything you need, without having to use power directly in the wet area.

This was what I started with. I enlarged the Window, and tiled the entire bathroom, and got rid of the tub. The walls were messed up. Nothing straight, and the texture was patched numerous times, lacking quality. I also added a small crown molding to the ceiling to step it up some👉

The window was 1980 original single pane Aluminum slider. It’s now double pane safety glass, and a much sturdier frame. Also enlarge it 4” height.

I widened the door, and now have a 33.5” rough opening. I’d like to squeeze a prehung 32” door into that spot, but it’s probably going to end up a 30” after shimming. (It was a flat 28” door). (Just after getting it all opened up)

Wife said no Urinal in the house bathrooms😉. If I want one, it’s got to be in the shop out back, or where it is now, next to that backyard tree. 😂

Looks good. If the door wall is not load bearing you can gain extra door opening width by using 1"x4" (3/4" thick) hard wood in place of the 2x4 jack studs under the header. Make sure the kings are straight & plumb and you can maximize your door width with minimal space loss. Build your own jamb and door and you can really maximize your clear opening.
A pocket door could possibly work too. Just some thoughts.

Getting closer. Grouting the floors, and setting the toilet. Shower door should be in soon.

The Floor tile is Italian Porcelain saltillo tile. Imported 22 years ago. It matches the rest of the house.

The overall structural quality of the Italian porcelain tile, compared to what the Mexican wall tile is night in day.

Also 6% of the Mexican tile were blem’s out of this lot#. I figured it out, and took the bad ones back and exchanged them, but quality control was not there. It turned out good so far.

Some day soon I’ll get it wiped down with fresh water. 😉

What I’ve learned is if you are remodeling a home with a wood floor ( plywood on floor joist), waterproofing with KERDI is worth it.

I didn’t need too use it. It was easy to work with, but added $$$ to the project. Mostly because their screws and taping system are expensive,

@Joker sells remnants

I got a piece picked out at an outlet store. Looking for fabricator in Phoenix. Need bullnose. Haven’t bought the slab yet, so if the Fabricator has what I need, I’d let him use his slab. As of now, The slab I want is far too big…probably make 6 tops out of the slab.

Any floor for that matter when it comes to a time marble stone shower should be waterproofed. Whether it’s hot mop, liner,or kerdi used.

I’ve seen some attempt to use no waterproofing in downstairs sunken down floor thinking water won’t go anywhere. Well it does.

Downstairs is just as important as an upstairs. You want all water to go out through the drain.

you should have a sconce on each side of the shower head. Lol

I thought about adding multiple shower-heads and valves, but in the end, I don’t want guests spending 30 minutes running the water. I could remove the shower head water restrictor, but in the end, I’m paying the water bill. 😂

I spent 35 years, off and on the road, living in Hilton hotels, while travel for work. Got to shower in a lot of bathrooms in all parts of the U.S. and the world. When you’re a guest, a simple shower setup is what I wanted. This is my version of a Hilton hotel bathroom😁

The Gold toilet would have made it like traveling to a Trump property... Just sayin...

Kerdi is a waterproofing product by Schleuter. Google Schleuter. Expensive, yes, but we'll worth the price if applied properly to keep the water in rather than letting it get by. I've seen too many tile jobs that didn't keep the water on the right side of the underlayment.

Hot mop all day long over Kerri. I should of screen shot it. Recent thread on the tile page about how soon they are seeing the kerdi showers fail. Consensus was 8-12 years. But by then the styles changed and a new bathroom is in order.

This is the first I'm hearing of any failures.

I will see if I can find the posts.

I have been using a lot of the goboard. It's so fast and waterproof. Not sure how it will hold up but put it in my own house. But still hot mopping all the pans with an occasional hydroban if it's first floor.

My Buddy still hot mops and floats everything. But his price reflects it.

Same here seen a few In tract homes and had some contractors go to it but coming back to hot mop. Even though I only work part time these days I still see a lot of showers lol.

Some I talked to went to it because it was easier deal for them to do where it cut stages out like floating the walls.

Personally if I ever get to doing my own shower it will be a hot mop and floated walls. More work but solid.

I watched the videos using Kerdi, I just don't get how thinset over the membrane is 100% waterproof. I did see it pass the flood test tho.

Thinset is not waterproof, nor is any cement. I am a hack DIY at best, but between the cost and the thinset, I'm not sold.

I've done two stall showers, One with a vinyl sheeting pan and one hot mopped. I'm about to tackle my 3nd... Our upstairs stall is seeping thru the wall tile, and the drain is cracked and seeping. This one uses a pan, so I only have to deal with waterproofing behind the tile to the transition.

GoBoard looks interesting, I'm still wanting to coat it with waterproofing like Laticrete Hydro Ban... If only I could color match 50? year old tile it would be an easy(er) fix.

They sell prefab corners made for taping. The trick is having a 2.5” taping over lap, because water can’t wick more than an inch or so ( KERDI’s expiation). Again, all the accessories needed beyond the actual KERDI board are expensive. You have to use the entire package of products to get their warranty. 😁

Anyone ever use the Tile-Redi shower pans? We’re on a slab foundation single story.

When I research some of the lower end pans some will yellow in 5-7 years. I ordered a slim line ( it’s a low step-in). It has a pattern in the base. The white finished is very nice. I bought it through Lowe’s online, not in stock.

Be absolutely sure you set it on a bed of mud. Mine turned out rock solid. 😉

I think there are some videos on Tile-Redi. I think Floor and decor started stocking it.

Thanks for the input, the model of pan and bench would be set in bed of mortar the tile/stone over the top. Seems like a solid option after watching some YouTube videos.

I looked them up, and an area of concern will be where the drain is located, but that is going to be the same with any prefabricated pan.

Check to see if the tile you like, is sized correctly, to fit nicely in the pan. You don’t want “slivers” when you’re done. 😁

I hope my thread give a few some motivation to finish up their remodels, and encourage others to be patient while getting things done.

I got the motivation. Just not the time. Finally got the last of the big panels set. Need to cut In the niche and window. First piece I pre cut and it broke when moving it. Took 6 guys to get them In place. 59"x96" 1/2" thick quartz. Shower floor gets penny tiles. Got all the material

Got the vanity in other bathroom finished. Used a remnant I had. Slowly piecing together both bathrooms. Other one just need to finish the niche pieces. It's a tub.

Customers have been the priority and with my 2 bathrooms I have 7 bathrooms to finish.

Great to see doing projects like these!
I’m going to a linear end type drain and 12”x24” Carrera Quartz stone for the wall and 12”x12” Carrera stone for the bathroom floor. Shower pan will be natural stone mounting to the mesh roughly 1”x1” pieces. Hopefully the small natural stone pieces on the floor will provide some necessary traction when wet.
