Hey Ryan,
Do you have any idea how much your boat weighs less engine? I need to flip mine and am kind of curious. I know its heavy but I have no idea. I need some big guys over to help me out!!

I'm not sure. Two or three of us lifted my bare hull real easy but that was only to throw some blocks under it while still on the trailer.

Not sure about flipping the whole thing over. Might need a few more.;)

Thats really cool that your kids are helping.

1. Old boat $2,500.00
2. Fill old boats holes $1,000.00
3. Paint old boat $1,500.00
4. New motor for old boat $5,000.00
5. Time spent with kids building old boat...Priceless!!

Steve, I took my bare hull over the highway weigh scale then just the trailer and found mines about 600 pounds.

I think I'm draggin my feet a little because I'm scared to do the next step:eek:...I know the next step is to D/A the veneers to prep for flow-coat but man...that is a BIG step!! I try to work on it everyday tho. When it's all said and done, I can only hope it'll look as good as yours Scott!! :thumbsup :thumbsup

I think i've done what I'm "comfortable" doing with her up to this point. I D/A'd the floors down with 150 and blocked the bulkhead, transom and stringers as well. I'm sketchy sanding too much where the transitions are (stringer to floor & sides to floor) but if they tell me to bring it home to sand some more I will. I'm fairly confident that it's ready for them and the next steps tho. Color and flow-coat.. Here are a few pics after I sponged off the drivers side. I left the others dusty for perspective. I also snapped a pic when it had some water on it...pic came out kinda crappy toward the front because of how much water I left on it but you'll get the idea...

Quick update... Nothing big. More of a log for myself :D.
Dropped it off at the Lee's shop today to finish the floors...
I would have taken pictures but you can't tell that I've done any work on it since the last pictures were posted :grumble: :blah:.
Anxiety is setting in...maybe I can get some work done other than the boat.

And here is a pic, circa 1981, after skiing for 15 minutes, running out of gas, and getting towed home. It certainly wasn't fuel efficient. Owner is on the deck.

What the hell is with jd and running out of gas. I was with him in the demarco when he ran out of gas and we had to get towed to the fire station. I had to take a dump so bad while we were getting towed i almost jumped over the side. That was the only time i went for a boat ride with louie.

I probably have some, somewhere, but I'm sure they are on "Kodak" style format, i.e., I'll have to scan them. BTW, I have the original of this, without the family friendly editing.

Hey Dan,
Can you email any pictures you have of the boat? I want to make copies and keep them in an album I have.

Thanks Dan!

You and your bowels - no surprise there.

Ohh, I wondered when that was gonna come up. It's all part of the testing process to see how little fuel we need. Extra gas is just extra weight ... Right? :D

The only one I've found so far. Maybe it was one of those days when JD floated it off the trailer, sat in the water for a day or two, and then floated it back on the trailer, 'eh?

I know I also have some 8mm movies too, somewhere. I can remember one of them was after he blew it up (cam was 30 degrees off, or something like that) and smoke was pouring out the breathers. Another time, or maybe the same time (?) it took those breather caps and spit them out like depth charges. JD was laughing, but it was another motor rebuild after that.
I may have copied them to VHS at some point. That may have to be a rainy day project.

I think he installed it 180 degrees out!! :smackhead He still has a piston with a valve buried in it from that one. I haven't heard about the breathers tho. I'll have to give him some shit about that :skull. Those home movies would be really cool to see. We just found a tape with about 30 seconds of footage with the boat. Really cool stuff. I'm going to put it on a dvd and then try to post it here when I get it transferred over. Really cool stuff Dan. Thanks again. :kewl

You obviously still have the Howard? How's it running? I think you're afraid to turn the boost up to make that thing walk!!
Glad you found me on the boards bro. Where is your place in Parker?

RIght on. Not too far from us. My Pops place is a couple hundred yard up-river from RoadRunner. Marina Village Annex. When is your next trip out there? I'll be there for Thanksgiving.

Just got the boat back. Next step is to block it for final clear. I can finally see the light at the end of the tunnel...a glimmer at least.

Jerry,
Thanks for the kind words. I know you went thru the same kind of labor with yours. The Honcho set the bar...that boat is something to be proud of. I need all of the input I can get at this point. Hopefully within the next year I can attend one of the many v-drive events with a boat...

Based on what I've read here,,, you know exactly what to do and who to talk to. :thumbsup

The only feedback I can offer is stay with your program. As far as the bulkhead goes... I like the idea of having an access hole cut into the bulkhead. A removable aluminum cover can be used to seal off the nose.

If you need a better photo let me know and I'll go out in the garage and take one.
