WOW, Strange way this thread went considering this is nothing more then 2 guys making a few small miscalculations at something that has very little wiggle room for error.

Bummer about the sunk boat and so many of the negative opinions.

Question though. Is there a condensed stream of air created by the tunnels at these speeds that would upset someone who drafted too close? That and a little extra weight from the water spray plus the wake seems to me to enable an upset condition causing a boat already close to the edge to go over the cliff.

Some old footage from the start- been this way since I can remember. If everybody holds their line...nobody gets washed down.

I have some really old footage from the 2002 mass start somewhere around, too.

In 2009, Jim made the mistake of giving me a group leader flag. I thought it was kinda cool until I look over and there's an MTI next to me.

Actually Raylar posted that link yesterday, however this thread just blew up, and it didn't get many responses. However we all saw this video yesterday.

Its easier to just say... Vin likes that video. ;)

"Been that way forever" makes it right? Legal? Ok? I'd say this time caught up with it and became a factor when the 35 was in the wrong spot all along.

This stuff happens on occasion at PR's all over the country. DS is no different, play hard , there's a chance of falling hard. Just glad there was no fatalities or serious injuries. You put handcuffs on the drivers, DS will disappear in a heartbeat . I for one hope that NEVER happens !

Please don't misinterpret me when I say that's a nice shot. Holy cow. You have to love today's photographic technology.

I know what you're saying...the photographer and camera and angle are fantastic...unfortunate event...but great picture!

Passenger is already gone, driver looks to still be in the boat, I think that's a red hat and you can see his hand.

Fortunately the boat tail walked for a bit to scrub speed before they both left.

While this last video does show a more aggressive turn by the M41...there was enough room for everyone. Why would the M35 take the line they did? Did his boat not turn due to trim, prop rotation & speed? did something break? Was he just not watching the M41....getting on the throttles and looking at his guages..then looks up and oops? Did he get caught up in trying to keep up and as Froggy likes to say....just ran out of talent?

I know the rules, and know the ediquette. The reason this has never happened before is because everyone obeys the rules and eqiquette. Even if you are saying the 35 is breaking the rules by being left at the start, then the 41 was also breaking the rules by your own defination. In my opinion as a driver, the right to left move is much more dangerous because you are coming across guys that are charging beside you. If everyone held their line (even the guys on the left), no one would ever tangle- it's just physics.

M41, in the lead continues path down the lake. Boats on the left, on the wrong side of the lake not surprisingly feel pinched, don't want to cob the throttles, want to keep it tight, but in the back of their minds were hoping they would be in front by this point and they could move right instead of being moved left. They are regretting their placement immediately, and thinking... "Wow, Tony really got the good line and a great start... Bastard!"

M35 decides "Holy Shit!!!! It's Elvis over there on the right side of the lake with the Swedish Bikini team taking turns performing oral sex on anyone in the vicinity... I need to be over there RIGHT THIS FUCKING SECOND or I am gonna miss out on giving Elvis a blowjob!" and they pull a fucking crazy Ivan into the pack.

Just like every other weekend when there is a 40' boat running mid triple digits. There is just ten of them doing it today.

If I see ten fucking jet ski intakes coming at me at three miles a minute, I move the fuck out of the way.

Because, simply, you aren't a genius. All the geniuses on here agree with me.

Your disdain for West Coast builders is tainting your judgement. I get that you are trolling, and I get that you are trying to get a rise out of the fan club. I too am getting mine, as I make a sport of making guys who are trolling look like assholes. It's a "Nguyen Nguyen" situation.

I just spit water...funniest (an in my mind accurate) account I've read...well played Wes....:skull:skull

To be honest, I can see Froggy's opinion, and your opinion, too. I can just agree to disagree, because we all know that not everybody can look at things the same way. It's not the end of the world to not see things how someone else sees things.
Fair enough ;)

Since Win was on board, what his take.

I haven't talked to either of those guys since the video came out. And frankly, even if I had, I probably wouldn't say anything here. Setting aside the "third party" view...lots of chances for lawyers or insurance companies to take a side on this. We don't realize it because it's just banter to us...but it's very public.

Remember when Dan sold his Skater? The state tried to ding him for taxes, so they dragged him into court (the boat was registered in Arizona). What evidence did they produce? They had pulled my old videos off HB of us using the Skater in California...lol.

Remember the old mass starts? Carlos driving the wheels off his Mach 26:

That's "timewarp" with the twin outboards in the video. Very few of us go back to the 2000 HB days.

Food for thought. I'll grab my popcorn.

So obvious what happened. There's another video that shows him run its right up the ass of another boat, pop over his wake and go over backwards. It's just bad driving. He should have backed off or gunned it and pulled ahead not ran over another boats wake at 90 mph. Just plain stupid. Now our rates all go up to pay for rich idiots!!! That guy needs to go back to a 19 foot jet boat and start over.....

Drives don't appear to be trimmed to the moon in that shot....

I was 40 yards from the M35 and got a great shot of the drives as she flipped over. They were not trimmed up as seen in the photo of the cat on the trailer. Can't figure out how to post the photo though.

Nobody can tell what the drives are trimmed at in that shot.. LOL The difference between Neutral and trimmed to the moon is literally a few degrees when a boat is running.. The earlier pics showed it in a "trailer trim" situation or something.. Boat wouldn't even run like that.

My buddy recovered the boat, he knows where the drives are at.. You can watch it in the video carrying the nose like a rockstar right up until it hit the roost of the 41. The reason it probably didn't turn for a shit, is it was "most likely" over trimmed. (IMO)

I like the driver (Beau / Spelling?) I have met him briefly a few times.. I don't have anything against the guy, nor do I think he's a horrible driver.. I just think he was overtrimmed and some shit happened real quick that he wasn't expecting.

In short, shit happens.. It's not the end of the world. He'll get it fixed or he won't, but either way he'll move on, and I'm sure he'll be back.

He also owns the KMG 22 twin outboard that everyone is in love with..

Let me repeat myself...

Whomever said the boat was trimmed like it was in the earlier pics and running is incorrect.. The boat wouldn't even run like that. However in those pics you have no idea where the drives are or aren't trimmed.

Only Beau does (if he remembers) and the guys that recovered the boat certainly have an idea..

Well this ought to settle the drives were "trimmed high" fuckscapade:tbi

This is actually quite late in the sequence of things. This could be very different than when the boat originally got loose, there was a little time for the driver to react and maybe even try to get things gathered back up if his instincts were sharp...

Is it possible the drives were actually not trimmed up at all, but just the speed and angle at which the boat crossed the M41s rooster caused the boat to loose control, and flip up and over? Just wondering, that's all?

Thats kind of the way that I saw things. I don't think hitting the wake itself would cause a 35ft boat to kite up into the air the way it did. Looked to me like he climbed the rooster of the 41 like a ramp. I would imagine that the wall of water coming off the 41 does not compress the same as air in the tunnel. I could see the wake pitching a cat into a slow roll as he slid down the downhill side but not go nose high like the video shows. No expert opinion here just a guess.
