If you are sure you have bio hazards (puke, feces, etc) in that truck and your insurance makes noises about cleaning it up tell them you want a written certification from a licensed bio cleanup bizz that it has been sanitized. Just ran this by wifey and she says her agent wouldn't even think twice about it..total loss.

A stolen truck full of drug residues, needles, etc and the CHP just sends it to the impound yard. Ya, pretty lazy work.

I over think things, but I would be worried about any drug paraphilia you could miss turning up later for some reason putting you in a bad situation

I did think of that and it does concern me of course.

They told me total damages are 2100. Lol.

The hazmat cleaning would run at least 2500. alone.

Their appraiser looked at it and mentioned it probably needs an interior cleaning. Ya right.

Do what it takes to get that totaled out. Stairs biohazardous waste possibly chemical contamination and drugs were consumed inside the vehicle. I honestly can't see any insurance company not wanting to Total this truck out. Just way too much liability if they leave something in it.

2100 really? The damage here was 6500 crazy how it adds up.

Take it somewhere else.

Its at a Ford dealer. The 2100. Is what the appraiser for SF said. Its a joke and not possible. Havent even looked into mechanical problems yet.

Dents, broken out windows, etc

Are there vehicle public adjusters?
Just settled a client who's house was partially flooded by the adjacent golf course, insurance offered $1,200.00, we settled for $19,000.00.

I will get this handled. Already wrote a very direct em to the claims rep. They definitly will be paying attention going forward.

Next up the CHP

Is the body shop going to write an estimate??? I live in Palm springs and i'm in the body shop business and I know both of the adjusters in this area and they are usually pretty good. Have the body shop write one a little more complete. Even if they have to take it apart.. Unless the estimate writer is from out of the area..

Something is off. When my recovered truck went in for repairs, the shop had a full estimate drafted and then called SF out for a review. Get your truck off the dealer lot and moved to a better shop. After initial review any follow-up changes (I had 6) were auto approved by SF once submitted. Sounds like the shop is the issue.

Also a few years ago, I got mixed up in trailer incident, and my truck ended up at Caliber Collision Indio and they inter-companied transfered to Carlsbad so it could be fixed local. Something to think about since you are not local.

The shop hasnt submitted an estimate but will be submitting one. The one submitted was by the SF adjuster. That isnt good enough for me.

Don't blame you. It is harder for them to total it without big outside structure damage. And what trucks are worth today that doesn't help either..

So...the estimate from the SF guy was $2100. The shop submitted their suplemental today and It is for
$30k more...lol

The drug use thing is going to be tough for them to overcome. Not safe to go in the vehicle for any repairs until the hazmat cleaning is done.

Long term liabilites start to surface. I drive around my three you grandkids in that truck as well.

Will see what SF has to say now.

The drive by adjuster and his quote are an insult to me.

This just become quite interesting to say the least. I plan on being a pretty loud squeaky wheel.

I utlized your advice here. It got them defensive but they are now on notice as I made sure they understood directly where I stand with no gray area.

Thanks for the great advice.

View attachment 710270 One of the things along with burnt herion I found in the truck. Lots of residue and possible throw up in the truck. F me!

Photo albums, personal items, a check made out to someone in New Mexico, etc. if the police would have done any kind of investigation they could get this guy. Shit if I wanted to I could. His photo album had pics of himself and others. Looked like a wannabe gangster. I threw it all away.

Its a shame because I bet a lot of stuff in the truck would prove other crimes. Of course grand theft auto isnt serious right?

CA is a free for all.

Tom, those are insulin needles and looks like an insulin container.....may be a diabetic car thief or someone who is getting the needles from a diabetic to shoot his other drugs.

Those are also the same kind that are given out at "needle exchanges" which are not exchanges, but give always. I have come across thousands of then for work. Looked at one house that o stopped counting at 50, before i made it 3 steps inside the house.

I would also let SF know that a 15x difference in estimation is unacceptable, go high up on the food chain as you can with that one.

Most places would total it just for the heroin residue. My friends car was undamaged when it was recovered but was totaled cause the they smoked crack in it.

I would ask for a new interior, not one that was cleaned by a hazmat crew.

Mike....The vials supposedly had dog drugs for Parvo, etc. However, for all I know it was something else in there.

Plus....there was foil with burnt residue from Heroin.

These were straight up drug addicts shooting up and smoking in my truck.

Agreed and I have already talked to them about that. Today they are supposed to let me know what path this is going.

People do take dog drugs too get high. Just a thought, maybe contact the local pd about having them bring a dog out "for training" purposes. More so if they try and clean it. The last thing you need is too get it back and have a dog signal on the truck. Not something you can explain on the side of the road.

So....SF can't get a guy to go out and look this supplemental quote over for at least a week. They are going to try to extend our rental until January 3rd. The original timeframe is only 30 days and it is up on Sunday.

Told them this is all internal stuff on the delays and they should take care of this for me. We shall see but it would not right to be punished for their lack of response times. I think they will extend it for me.

Anyhow.....the beat goes on

So...besides the payoff how much should I offer to buy it back as well? Keep in mind possible new interior and AC/heater along with body damage, windows busted out etc? The truck was imaculate prior to the theft.

5-10k?

Yeah, just go get another immaculate one with 30 miles.
As you said the other one was immaculate.

Don’t do it. Asking for trouble when you go to sell it. Unless you need a ranch/farm truck walk away.

They said $18K was the price. That is what they guarantee the auction house for the vehicle.

I am all about getting a good deal, I have zero probs with a salvage title. When it comes too this truck, the cost of repair is going too be really high, like you are going too have to find another with a perfect interior hit in the rear and take the entire can apart and replace it. Now assuming I could find a good deal on another wrecked truck, it's going too be at least 20k and at least 2 weeks of my time too fix it. So I spend 30k and have a truck worth, maybe 30k. That's not value.

Thanks
