Isnt it standard insurance practice that if the truck is gone for 30 days its a write off?

That's what AAA has told me in the past unless things have changed.

I have no idea but I know at a minimum they are going to have to get me a comparable rental......

Usually it is 30 days then you go to total write-off, and the settlement process begins.
My truck was found 1 day before SF was going to write it off.

I deal with stolen vehicles all of the time, you cannot predict what occurred for the most part. I get over 95% back in 1-3 weeks.

Any news on this Tom?

Nothing new Mike. Getting a rental for now.

State Farm did say they do not have a 30 day wait period. They could just settle all now but of course some subjective time needs to pass first.

It will be intetesting to see what kind of check they try to throw at me eventually if the truck is not found. It should be in the high 30's range but we will see.

Its costing me at least 1k at a minimum.

Happy TG and hope all is well

I just got done dealing with the same shit.. my Duramax got stolen and insurance waited almost 4 weeks before paying me off.. I came up though 06 Duramax with 250k miles and the cashed me out at little over 21k.. crazy.. for your sake hopefully they will find the truck with very little damage and fix it..

Mine is 2016 and KBB is about the 38/39K range minus payoff. They will try to do $30K but I won't accept that.

Sucks they did that to you

Don't get ahead of yourself, I know this business. Get local selling prices, not book, this , miles, and condition will enter into the settlement. In addition sate law permits DMV partical refund and at times sales tax.

I know they will lowball me. I dont expect KBB. Their game is to save money.

Appreciate the input from you.

Most values come back way more than if you tried to sell before it went missing.
If you are not okay with the value you can always get your own comps and negotiate.
Doubt you will need to though.
You are only owed a similar rental when you were hit by someone else and their insurance pays or otherwise you can rent whatever you want however if you rent a Maserati you may hit your cap (normally about $600), on the second day.
But it would be a fun two days!

Nothing new as of this AM. They did of course provide a rental and we kept it under the allowance of $25. per day. This will max out at a total of $750. so that takes us up to 30 days. They did say it is subjective and has no firm number before they decide to write it off as a total loss. To me it seems they have a "subjective" 30 days with that max out on the rental.

It was kind of an extra truck so I may just keep the money instead of buy a new truck.

Will see how this all plays out but I hope this truck is never found at this point. It would never be the same truck to me at least.

I have SF. At day 22 it was going to total loss. Truck was found on day 21 and I traded it in ‘as-is’ on a new truck. Even if I fixed it, my trust in the truck was gone (had over 13k in repairs needed).

What happens if they pay you out and then it is found after that transaction? I would assume they own it at that point?

Totally understand the trust deal

Once paid out, no longer your issue. I was told as soon as the EFT is issued, if found I don’t have to worry. If found once total loss settlement starts, then it gets into the grey area.

Sounds like a lot of body damage and smashed windows. It was on the side of the 10 fwy in indio. Surprised they would have been on the fwy in that condition. If i was a chp i would have pulled them over.

Oh well....tow yard is going to send me some pics of it when it gets to their yard.

They try to take any prints or look for evidence or is that too much effort for a stolen $70,000 truck?

Sorry to hear it was found

I think i am gonna get screwed here ;(. This doesnt look like its totaled or will be by the insurance company. Scumbags were using the truck as you can see they replaced the lic plate with an auto dealer plate. Probably to look like a new truck.

I had a car stolen and later recovered. I asked if they were going to take the car and fingerprint it. LAPD said they would only do that if it was used in a crime. I said I thought stealing cars was a crime.

Its already at the tow yard and nobody mentioned anything like that to me :(

I can't remeber what was on the truck below the F150 symbol on the side front panel but whatever it was removed. Both sides it looks like.

I can't see the NRA sticker in the rear window.

Notice the fuckers put dealer plate type dealio to replace my lic plate.

They had drinks in the center console as you can see.

and there is some voodoo damn thing hanging from the mirror....lol

Whoever stole this was actually using it locally it seems.

Ya.....I am getting screwed over on this one.......AGGGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

Ford better do a good job on fixing it up for me. Money is no object as far as I am concerned. For all I know they were 4WD the shit out of it in the desert for a while.

That sucks, does not look like too much damage. Which I this case is a good thing. At this point the trucks value just dropped. If you are driving it until the wheels fall off, who cares. If you are going to sell it in a few years, you will take a hit, so I would trade it in

Governor Brown allows criminals to get out of prison so that they can continue to commit crimes. Once they commit crimes again then they get slapped on the hand again. This state sucks as far as criminal rights go. It’s about to get worse with our new douche bag Governor.

Stealing a vehicle in Ca is just a misdemeanor these days ...
