Brian...that's a personal type thing depending on where you boat. Obviously it won't be a prius for economy...but I would say if it was mine..I'd be fine with 35 gals or so..total..

My Dad's Centurion day cruiser holds like 65 total...way too much weight to pack around IMO...and it burns one side at a time so the boat lays over horribly because he forgets to alternate them..

My 22 Schiada holds 33 per side..haven't used it yet...but I will never run 66 gals through it in an outing or weekend or month for that matter..Schiada has a balance tube so the will equalize when boat is parked..

I think Brian plans on boating mead, he needs every bit of 70 gallons if he wants to go up the lake. Not everyone stays on those little rivers :D

Yea I miss being there. Bummed we sold the houseboat. might have to look into a hydrahoist and leave it there parttime.

I just got off the phone with my client and he is on board for breaking me some storage tanks.

I put my skillsaw in the truck.....Fuck it is going to hurt to put that to the floors.

We are still in to make it to Desert Storm.

Top off at Temple Bar. How many gallons per hour should that boat burn?

IMA ask if the ano tanks are big enough to fit the tanks inside, I might have them anodized yellow. :)

Brian

Ethanol only attacks certain alloys of aluminum, 5000 series alum is alloyed with magnesium and is highly corrosion resistant, not like 6000, or 7000 series aluminum, which while stronger, are not as corrosion resistant (fittings).

Fuel tanks are made from 5000 series, mainly alloy 5052. Ethanol does not readily attack this alloy. There are literally 10's of thousands of boats running around with IMCO 5052 aluminum tanks, i have never seen one corrode away from the inside due to fuel. The only time i've seen them fail is from something rubbing on the outside, or when the outside of the tank is exposed to lots of moisture but not fully submerged (ie the foam the tank is set in is saturated) and it never dries and electrolysis starts doing it work over the coarse of years. Mainly boats that are sitting in the water for extended times and always have water in the bilge, and it's a keel tank. But this is pretty rare.

5052 Aluminum tanks are perfectly fine for ethanol.

Absolutely not the same boat- 21' Eliminator Day Cruiser, 454, ~500HP ,Jet drive, (Berkeley jet) -aprox 2.5 mpg, @ ~35mph, 3300 rpm.

Tanks hold right at 50 Gallons- 25 a side. 125 mi cruise? closer to 100 Mi with a lil left.

Nice boat, BTW

Congrats on the purchase bud!

Only boating rivers, I'd go with 70 gallons (2 35's)

Boating big lakes, I'd go 120 gallons (2 60's)

I feel the same. Fuel in the belly is a better idea.

I can make whatever I need anyway. the shitty part is chopping up the floor to R&R them.

... Had dinner with Fred Thompson tonight he said at a minimum a hundred gallons for big lakes...

About saddle tanks vs belly tank.My 24 Spectra had 15* deadrise IIRC, the Campbell is most likely 12*.Get your protractor out Mr machinist.:)The Spectra rode rock solid,no rocking left and right what so ever. The less deadrise Campbell would be even more stable, albeit your kidneys may feel it some more in rough water at Mead:).My buddy's wife was prego when he bought my boat and never complained about their ride you see here>
24%20Spectra%20at%20Vancouver's%20Jericho

As tank capacity goes,I think the Spectra had twin 30 or 35 gal tanks, fuel was good for long trips at cruising speeds, sipping maybe 20gal/hr, or 35-40 at WOT.I have 80 gal belly tank in my Mirage, feeding twin V8's, pushing a lot of water with its 24*deadrise, burning 8 gal/hr per engine at cruising speed of 40mph@3000 rpms, 25gal/hr per engine @WOT:yikes
The Spectra was a Prius compared to my Mirage.:skull

On my wife's tablet. I've got the floor out and about ready to saw out some tanks. The inside has a red liner glassed in of some type. Thinking jigsaw is the safest so it isn't a Brian bbq.

Congrats on the boat, when my dad cut the old glass tanks out of his Campbell he was afraid of any electric tools that make sparks in the windings so I recommended an air cutoff or air jig saw. He went to Home Depot and bought a CH die grinder with some cutoff wheels and went through it all with no problems and no booms:D! This was before Harbor Freight opened in Havasu so it cost a little bit more for a tool he would most likely use once but it worked great.

...Might be a good idea to siphon any fuel and fill the tanks with water before cutting...

Whelp, I sawed the tops off and IMA venture to say the tanks were fine. No Brian BBQ.

No jelly, just a couple rubber bits in the starboard tank. Port tank looked ready to run.

Port fill hose was breaking down, starboard hose looked fine. Replacing all the hoses anyways.

It is set to draw from both tanks and no equilizer tube.

Gas was old no doubt, got around 30gal and I have no idea what to do with that. I wouldn't run that shit in my lawnmower.

So I am in the shop for a couple hours in tonight to finish up a project.

Bringing my protractor home to figure out the deadrise, make some drawings and start on tanks tomorrow.

See if the city has a household hazardous waste collection. I took 10 gals to Chino's collection site with my name on the cans and picked them up a couple of weeks later.

I dumped all my old fuel into 5 gallon buckets with lids from Home Depot. There's a hazardous waste collection place by me that took them.

Boat has a 17 deg deadrise, measured on my happy ass protractor. Sound about right?

Fuel tanks are in process.

I need to turn some pipe and fill fittings.

I am hoping to change all the fluids/plugs/wires/cap this weekend, and maybe fire it on a gas can if I get a Chevy oil pump primer, since I mostly only speak Mopar. :)

If I get that far.

We will see.

Is it just me or am I in a time warp from back when you can't post pictures off your work off your phone????

If I need to search through boxes to find my old 2003 digital camera so you can post pics, let me know!

that's interesting,IIRC the 24 spectra has a 16* deadrise.I have to check it next time,visiting my friend.

Here's a picture of mine, take a picture of the Howard and superimpose the two and see if there's a difference.

I need a bigger ladder at the house. The pictures I take don't look real good because the work doesn't fit in the frame.

I am not used to all this real estate.

Deconstruction went well. I got the floors up and sawed the tank tops off, I didn't take any further pictures past what I posted.

If the sun rises at my house, I'll take some of where it is right now.

Floors and stringers are beautiful. That girl carries 2 x 12s for stringers. Unreal. Transom looks perfect too.

I may replace the center floor. The others are fine.

Carpet for sure. Likely going to be brown, don't know what else to go with.
