Boating at any of the lakes in Kansas will be nothing like Arizona or California. This will be an extreme shock for his family. Clinton, Perry, Tuttle, Melvern, Milford, Glen Elder, etc. won’t have anything remotely close when It comes to high end stuff or any thing to do besides camp. Have to go to Lake of the Ozarks to get anything like that.
Personally for someone like me I would be fine with that. Flat water and sking or just floating is nice.

Sure a bar is nice but then again there’s a cooler and tunes on boat too.

It's a different world, and some may not ever understand. I think that's okay. It keeps those worlds different.

I just want to know what your neighbor’s think of your truck. We do things differently in SoCal. Will they think it’s cool or just think it’s not functional?

Not functional? 2wd pickup on car tires that's lowered so you can't put chains on it. I think the neighbors will see the cali plates and give him a smile and thumbs up.

Doubtful kaOtyk built that awesome truck with intentions putting chains on the truck or going off road.

It’s okay don’t worry about that pile of shit posting up there. He or she likes to come into my threads and just talk smack while not contributing a damn thing to this site. They’re just grumpy at their own miserable life and gotta ruin it for others. Hopefully they’ll choke on their own spit one day and do the world a favor.

That's okay. They are also misguided. I never once saw anyone drive with chains on. It's the salt I would be worried about. Washing your truck in the cold sucks! I did it regularly. I would also hit my frame yearly.

You're gonna love it. Best of luck to you and your family.

Lol. I was talking about eastern Oregon becoming part of Idaho. Spent a lot of time in your neck of the woods when I was young. Hunting and fishing mostly. Now I just fly over on my way to Whitefish.

We were in Whitefish yesterday. Not much snow on Big Mountain, and none in town. Still busy though.

Maybe he is planning on his kids learning the reality that "high end stuff" isn't really that important.

No one here in Montana drives with chains on, either. In some places, people put studded tires on, but we don't get nearly enough snow for that where we are.

I have family in Manhattan area. Eastern Kansas is beautiful and not flat at all. Congrats on the move! I'm excited for your family's new adventure :)
Thanks for sharing the trip with all of us.

You talking about me?

Mine was a valid question coming from another lowered truck guy. I’ve always been told that the car scene doesn’t exist the same way out of SoCal.

If there's road salt issues, a few of my friends made up sprinklers on a PVC frame...ran the hose out the garage from a hot water spigot and would wash down the underneath. A couple guys I knew in Cali did the same when they'd get back from Bonneville ;)

I think ones like you who build a truck like that do it for themselves and already have something else that if they need a “functional truck”. But functional
Is what you consider it for your needs.

IMO it’s bad ass truck and looks like it it tows well 😱

Just drive the bus in the winter 😁
All the natives laughed at my big lifted diesel. Except on major snow days. I was the last one laughing.

Comedy was the college kids sliding around the hills. It's why Lawrence gets plowed and salted so fast. Lol.

I will say this about Kansas drivers. You will never, ever, find them hogging the left lane.

What part of the country doesn’t appreciate a lowered dually? I would think that’s universally badass
Do not see much in the way of lowered vehicles in Florida. I have been my area since 2004 have never see a lowered dually ever.
Miami maybe???

Mostly huge lifts on trucks here.

@ka0tyk congrats on the move! I just don't see how a guy will regret it for his family or himself over the next 10-20 years! We are looking to be just a few hours North of you once the in-laws pass and the kid leaves for college.

Just talked with a Realtor friend who has clients that want back into California. It appears that, for some, the grass isn't always greener elsewhere.

Won't know until you make the move. Works for some and doesn't for others. If you make the move, at least you'll know for sure whether you made the right move or not instead of thinking about it a lifetime. On the flip side, you better make sure you're making the right move if you live in CA because trying to get back into the market here is very difficult.

Hold onto your hat. Will be very easy to come back when the market collapses any day now.

And look how long they’ve been trying to get that.

Found a few new builds under 1 million on a quarter acre.

This is exactly what I’ve noticed. I applaud anyone willing to take the chance and make the move. Coming back can be a nightmare though which is really the big downfall if it has to come to that.

Seems like the “move” would be to rent the CA house and rent in the new location for the same time. Maybe you leave a little cash on the table but if you want to come back you can.

This is what the boss said we are going to have to do. We've got an apartment we rent out now above the garages that we would use as a place to return if need be and rent the front house out. This will alleviate the property gains tax as well.

That’s smart. Most people I’ve watched cash out the California house to get to the new place. Unfortunately for my age group right now divorce is wreaking havoc. It’s shitty but marriages aren’t made the way the used to be and I’m not saying go through life being miserable but giving up so easy isn’t my stele either.

This is 100% the move.

Buddy kept his house in CA, bought a house in TX, started the divorce process, lost his job, and just moved back to CA to his old house…all under a year. He would have been even more screwed had he sold the CA house

Definitely rolled out in style @ka0tyk . Good luck on the new adventure, there are plenty of us on this site that consider doing the same thing but don't pull the trigger. I enjoy it when members post up their experiences and don't have to turn it into a bash fest.

Report back regularly with how it goes, plenty of us in OC that are considering cashing out and moving out of state.

Just talked with a Realtor friend who has clients that want back into California. It appears that, for some, the grass isn't always greener elsewhere.

The old couple that lived a couple houses down on our street just moved back to CA. They could not find a house and had to move to a hotel.

They actually lived about a mile away from us in OC.. weird small world.

I could tell the first 60 days we were there she didn’t like it from her postings on the local Facebook group.

They were not too bright. Amassed several pets at the cost of several thousands of dollars that she ended up giving away as they were looking to move. Poor dude always looked like he wanted to end himself when she was around 😂.

The problem is people need to be willing to assimilate to some degree. The ones that try to make where they are now where they were are never happy. That or they had unrealistic expectations about different climates.

For every 100 that leave, 2 want to come back.

I'm actually a little confused. There's really no interaction between those two members and what he posted wasn't bad? Trying to figure out where it went south?

merc_400r is one of his other screen names he used to troll the most excellent RV thread @ka0tyk curated then abandoned.

That should connect the dots.

Absolutely the move if you want a divorce. Abandon CA, divorce somewhere friendlier to men, and then go back.

Cheaper to KeepHer. Sounds like a lotta work😂

Might be a smart way to protect all the stuff you wanted to keep.. “Sorry all that stuff is back at the rental and/or was lost at sea in the move.” 😂
