Congrats to the thread author, sounds like a well thought out plan. But for many others, what’s the rush to leave? The simple fact is many people are going to maximize their earning power in CA, even after taxes. Also it is tough to leave family and friends.

Rather, maybe think about staying until it’s time to retire then cash out and make the move. If you are in good health, you will have many, many years in retirement to enjoy a new chapter outside of CA, without giving up your earnings potential.

If you can afford it, maybe consider buying/keeping a small condo in CA to go back and visit family and friends after you leave. The older we get, especially when kids are out of school, it’s that much harder to make new friends.

Just a thought. Here’s where we landed.

Kansas has only one inspection and that is they inspect the title matches the VIN on the vehicle and that is only for out of state vehicles.
There are no other inspections.
Thats pretty much it for Florida as well.
I get surprised on a regular basis reading RDP on all he different money grab check point things out west.

Although in Florida they have roadside Meth-O-Meters set up. ;)

Colorado front range. That is Boulder, CO in the distance, next to the mountains. We moved here after retirement to be close to my in laws for their twilight years, which was always the plan and it worked. Very happy to be here.

In our cul-de-sac of 4 houses, 3 of us moved here from CA. All of them great neighbors, we are very lucky.

You in Superior? When I was going to school I live at 104th and Wadsworth. Pretty much on the other side of the airport.

How much of your business needs to be done in person? Could you fly back and forth twice a week

Pretty much have to be here if I want to do anything. I'm figuring I could fly back every couple weeks and make it work. Worst case scenario I hire a showing assistant to help while I am gone.

We will see how it goes...wife is very hot and cold. Two days ago she was all about leaving, yesterday that all changed.

Why fight the tide? Make hay when the sun shines. Sounds like business is good, why mess with it? For most of us, the big urban centers are where wealth is made, just a fact of life.

Work hard, go where the business takes you, then cash it in and enjoy life. Just my two cents based on the experience of my former work colleagues and me. If it’s not a slam dunk, why take the risk, and this coming from someone who moved 8 or 9 times moving where the job took us. Some worked, some didn’t.

For what ever reason I can’t see your pic, I’m sure it’s in my end.
Anyhow, Awesome for you!!
Don’t know where you are going but it’s probably WAY! better than California.👍

California , for all it's shortcomings is still a magnificent place. The weather, the scenery, the parks, the skiing, and on and on.

The problem with California, as it is with Florida, attracts a very peculiar psychological type who believe in unicorns, and utopia. The party animals, and other vagabond/free-spirit types tend to congregate where they won't freeze to death. Somehow those personality types have managed to seize control of the government and think that they can create utopia as they view it.

The rest of us who live in the real world understand that there are tradeoffs and that utopia is not possible on this mortal coil.

California is pretty bad. Crime is out of control, schools are getting worse. Some appreciate the fact marijana is legal, but I really don't want to raise my kid in an area where it is legal. We will be getting into a war with China in 2025-2027 and I really don't want to be near Pendleton and North Island when that happens. The con's for California heavily outweigh the business part. I just want to make a slow transition when changing and not an abrupt change. I have to have residency to get licensed in Texas, Florida I could get licensed right now, but a few months to get a license, then a few months before I close a few deals will suck especially considering Texas has low price points.

Got it. Sounds like you’ve done a thorough analysis and will do what’s best for your family. During our kids school years, we lived in an area with great public schools, strong support from the citizens. However, we did do private for their high school years, due to moving away for a few years then moving back. It’s always an option.

Sounds like you are in the San Diego area. We lived in Fairbanks Ranch for a few years in the late 90s. Probably the coolest house we ever had.

If I could afford Fairbanks Ranch, I'd have not issues! HAHA. It's brutal now with kids. If you heard the crap they are doing in schools it would make you angry too.

I know LAPD patrol guys could. Not possible anymore?
My cousin is lapd. He does something where he trades OT pay for days off or something like that. I’d have to ask him again. He’s getting ready to go to Texas as well I didn’t ask if he’s planning to work in ca I just figured he would work in Texas

I found out from an LA City fireman that knows multiple guys who “live” in Texas, Florida and Idaho and just fly back and forth lol.

But I think they do what you’re describing. Somehow they’ll work 4-5 days in a row and then fly home for 9-10 days. I think it’s easier for FFs with their 24 hour shifts.

Ramona’s a cool little town. 👍🏻 Pretty sure a few inmates live up there.

These guys (cops and firefighters) have organized groups and basically cover each other’s shifts to arrange consecutive working days that align with their schedules.

I honestly don't know how the wives are OK with that type of situation.

My Dad did that shit when he was at Nellis AFB. Flew out every two weeks to Area 51, come back for 6 days, then out again. I never saw him, as a kid it fucking SUCKED. He missed every important event of mine.

After all that he did to my Mom, the icing on the cake was when I turned 10, he decided to admit he had a girlfriend up there at work. Left my Mom and us.

I barely can stomach talking to him even to this day. He is almost 80 now and knows he did some stupid shit.

Ironically just last week he tells me on Facetime "Son meet your new brother, Im at his house for Christmas." WTF? Turns out my Dad knocked up a girl 2 months before I was born (cheating on my Mom of course) and then split and didn't tell ANYONE for 49 years! I guess this guy tracked down my Dad from 23nMe or some shit and now they are making up for last time.

I cant make this shit up! Sorry for the rant. LOL..been needing to get that off my chest.

Guys, dont do this to your kids. They deserve better!

That's comp time, for me Saturdays are 9 hours so I can get paid for 13.5 hours or take 13.5 hours off. For every 3 Saturdays worked I get a week off.

I know lots of fireman that do that, some did that for 25 years. I've never heard of cops being able to to that except while living in the Vegas area

Ive been told by a couple different people they are looking for people bad enough that they would probably look past my 2 duis
Those probably wouldn't have disqualified you for large dept, smaller depts yes. The killer for people is when they lie about or try to hide stuff, background investigators know people make mistakes, just own up to them.

My mother-in-law moved from Corona to Searcy Arkansas. She soooo wants us to move there. I asked her how the mtn biking is in 17 degree weather? She say's "oh I don't know" I ask how's the Hot Rod car culture out there? Same answer, I don't know? Any moto tracks nearby and are they open when it's snowing and 17 degrees out?? She just looked at me with a snarl.

I guess I'm staying in SoCal until somewhere better opens up. Whatever floats your boat. :)

Didn't seem like it while I was mtn biking around Puddingstone Lake this morning. What did you do today? My mom said it was 28 degree this morning in St. George. :)

View attachment 1322946

Yea it was 28 at 3 AM. Who mountain bikes then? 😂 Why did you go to Puddingstone to ride your bike? There aren’t nice biking areas right by your house?

It’s 60 and sunny right now. Going to get in the spa this evening.

Today I dropped my car off at the hot rod shop and went for a RZR ride, right from the garage. That would have been an all day ordeal in So Cal.

Took the kids to the snow 45 mins away yesterday. It wasn’t even crowded and there weren’t idiots playing in the snow on the side of a mountain road the entire way up there.

Neighbor kid and his dad went to the motocross track today, now he’s over playing with my son.

Yep.. embrace the decline captain :)

Hot Rod? You’re not talking about the Mazda are you?

It’s 28 here remember, no one can even mountain bike. We have to get around somehow 😂.

No I’m talking about paint. Other than that I pretty much do my own stunts. They are fixing my bumper and hood.

Well let's see here....

Here's a screenshot of your weather for tonight. I guess you only see what you want to see. As for your Puddingstone comment, I ride all over as I have multiple options here in socal and Puddingstone is 20 min away which I consider close. So you dropped off your car and rode around in your golf cart -> Sounds exciting. 😂

That is a great picture, but I can be skiing in Baldy in 35 min if I cared, but you do have me on the idiots on the side of the road and you forgot the trash they'll leave. Too bad your neighbor only has one track to ride out there instead of the 6 we have here. :)

Embrace the suck.
