I am in Idaho near Sun Valley.

Stopped at a liquor store to grab a bottle of bourbon while we are here. Saw they had buffalo trace, so I grab it. Price is $22, Damn that is cheap so I go to the register. There they have a few bottles of eagle rare, so I ask the price. $33 I am like shit we pay $74 for that in FL, so I put the trace back and buy the rare. I then asked him if he has Blantons and he says yes. I ask the price and he says $60. They sell that for 159 in FL and 79 in TN.

Would love to buy a bunch of Blantons, but can't take on the plane. Does anyone know a good way to ship the bottles without them breaking?

Damn, that’s some great pricing! I usually just bubble wrap them and put them in my suitcase. Of course they have to go in baggage, but I’ve never had a problem with them breaking.

I bought a bottle of Pappy for my 91 yr FIL as well as the book, Pappy Land a few years ago. I'd like to get another one to celebrate his passing but can't find it any where. If anyone has any hook up's, I'd like a bottle of 12 if possible. Thanks...

You can get them, just how much hunting you want to do for a decent price. What is the price range you are looking for?

OK first off, I am a little late to this party and I've never been a big whiskey guy, but I had some EH Taylor a few months ago and it was excellent!
Second is, I know this is a tough one but where can I get my hands on some EH Taylor in the So CA area?
Third, is there something else out there I should be looking at that would be comparable?

What eh Taylor? Small batch is the base line then single barrel, rye, single barrel proof, 4 grain, keeps going and so does price.

I have a small liquor store by me that had some. Tell me exactly what you're after and I can check
Where can I get my hands on some? A coworker had his friend pick it up somewhere in the San Fernando valley.
I would like to stay on my side of LA if possible.

I get my EH Taylor and most of my other higher end bourbons at the Pavillions in Newport Coast. The beverage director there is a good friend of mine and she calls me when things come in. They tend to carry quality spirits because of their high end clientele, and when they have what you want, it’s normal retail price. They don’t mark things up. 👍

Just picked up a couple bottles to add to the collection. Looking forward to trying the Elijah Craig Toasted Barrel. Anybody here had this before?

Lots of home distiller’s use toasted oak, then charring it.

Bourbon barrels are basically built, then a torch is used to char the inside. That char gives bourbon the color/flavor

If you toast the oak at 300-400 degrees for a few hours, then char it,,, you get alot more vanilla/caramel/butter scotch type flavors, in the aging process.. Please ask me how I know.. hint hint.

So I am very interested in your tasting notes of the ECraig… I expect the above referenced flavor notes to appear.

Yes... Its decent at retail pricing, wouldn't pay a mark up for it. To me it tasted like toasted marshmallows. I'm a BIG fan of most things coming from Heaven Hill Distillery.

You find the Eagle Rare in TX? Not common if you did.

I was able to get 10 percent off on all three. You’re right, I can’t find Eagle Rare or much of anything from Buffalo Trace in Texas. I picked these up in Cali.

I created this thread to hopefully showcase some great value bourbons, just because you pay a boat load of $$$ doesnt mean its always worth it..

Well fuck me… did I come across one hell of a value bourbon!

Went out on a limb today, bought something I had never had before..

And holy shit… Worth every penny.

Very reminiscent of Michters… but smoother.
Not as complex, but damn its smooth.
Pretty sure this one has lots of rye in it, at least my taste buds are telling me that, but smooth..

Seriously, I think I paid $24.99 at Costco a few hours ago… and loving every minute of it.

So I opened the Elijah Craig Toasted Barrel tonight. I would agree with your assessment about the char flavors - there’s a lot going. I think I was expecting a bit more smoky taste, but I’m good with that. It’s a bit hot up front but not bad, just more than I expected from 94 proof. Just my thoughts, but I’m far from a seasoned bourbon taster. 😆

Every person has unique taste buds. Literally..

Most can associate flavor profiles on common items and kinda agree, but some literally off that “chart” And taste something totally different..

Its not a right / wrong… its personal perception…

Which is why wine tasting notes can totally confuse some, but others get it…

To make this matter worse,,, tastes buds change over time…

Me… 5 years ago… could eat Thai food made by Thai people and it was spicy, and I loved it… today.. OHHH HELLL NOOO…
Lights me up… no fucking way… but I used to enjoy it????

What the fuck???
