A customer brought this by. His dad had it built new in 1986 from Howard Brown. Going to do a few things to it next week.

Spent some time reminiscing with Art at the Puyallup goodguys show. I was testing his memory on a prostreet flat fender willys panel he built a chassis for me in the 80s before he had an established shop. He is still sharp and remembered. Some of my friends have worked there for years.

So the scout we are doing runs and moves finally. They want to come shoot some video of it tomorrow for the show so I told them it wouldn’t be done but I would try and make it move. Backed out of the shop today under its own power. I really didn’t want to push it.

What show is this you speak of? Maybe somewhere in the thread, but I missed it.

So a guy stops by with this this morning. 928 Porsche with a LSA swap and a 6-speed rear mounted transaxle. He is trying to get it past the ref and wants me to redo the air intake. This thing was so cool. A/c works and all.

That's a cool LS swap, and no doubt a huge improvement in performance over the stock engine. The transaxle must be icing on the cake.

It was ages ago, I was doing work for former Houston Oiler Mac Haik, and he bought one of the first 928s available. It was a complete change from anything Porsche had ever built. I got to drive it for a little bit, but not enough to make any impressions about its ability as a sports car.

So I mentioned this car in another thread. My neighbor found me this for 500.00 with new tires. It has a 305 tpi in it. Sitting in a backyard for 15 plus years. I came across a Ls1 4l60 combo out of a 2002 Camaro for real cheap. So my dumbass decides to do this. I had a part time kid over the summer and he did most of the grunt work. I had a new conversion harness laying around from another past project. I am going to try and get it past the ref as a smog legal swap. I did Vintage air and a Dakota dash at the same time. Leave it ugly as super sleeper.

Geezus you are reading my mind here. Keep thinking of this in a 3rd Gen or square S10 blazer..

I am hoping the camaro will do 25-30 mpg. Daily it for a while till someone has to have it.

I don’t see how it won’t do over 25MPG. Good plan.

Finding a not roached driver quality S10 blazer is a tough 😂.

I was wondering what happened to that one.
We’ve done a fair amount just not enough. His health gets in the way. Main reason I’d like to pay to have it done. There is just a lot of little shit left. Are you ever out in the Ontario chino area?

No I have not. I have heard about them but just prefer more old school. Replace a relay instead of a module.
That’s currently what we were working on installing before we had to take a break from it. I told him it’s time to shit or get off the pot.

How is the smog stuff/swaps now? Years ago, mid-90's, I stuck a 92 5.0 in an 83 glx mustang. Left all the 92 smog crap on it. Smog guy told me as long as it had what was required for model year, and passed tailpipe, it was legit. (Assuming that model had been offered with a V8)
That was the only car I didn't have to...persuade...the tester 🤣

It was a wild car.... I think it was around 1987 and I had a 4 door Jag and my bud had one of these 928s and we'd swap on weekends when he wanted to double date. He told me its a dog around town but take it out on highway to about 80 and bury it and she comes alive.... yup that thing was a lil screamer.

I don't make it out there often. The first 90% take 10% of the time. Its the last 10% that takes 90% of the time. Wrings so true.

Donor drivetrain newer than the swap car. Has to be in similar weight categories. All the emissions stuff from donor must be present and functioning. I have a 88 dually I have a 6.0 4l80e swap in. Trying to get it past the ref. They have a hard on for air intakes. I had made one for the dually and he failed it. Told me it had to have an EO number. So I buy one and it is worse than what I made but it has the sticker on it. The camaro should be pretty easy with the ref except the air intake has me a little worried.

Seems like it should just have to have better or equal emissions than original. The logic eludes me.

Lol, you are correct sir! I parted ways with that passion about 15 years ago, but "was" fairly knowledgeable about these non desirable years of Camaro's. Ditching the TPI and 305 is the first step in making them respectable. Being a hard top body is another good first step in respectability. Those cars even with robust subframe connectors were flimsy at best. They are light and handled well, anything that can stiffen them up and provide more power to the ground makes them much better.

This is probably the oldest and best website for 3rd gens, it's changed ownership hands over the 28+ years I have been interested in online media, this site was the impetus for me to learn how to use a computer and start interacting online, I read about it in Car Craft magazine.

Welcome to California. Look over here you can surf, snowboard, dirt bike and be stabbed by a vagrant, all in the same day.

FWIW I got pulled over in my RX7 once, post V8 swap. Cop had me pop the hood. The K&N EO sticker from the intake on the rotary engine is still on the core support.

I pointed to the sticker and said all this
was all part of the kit. The car has a huge carbon fiber K&N air filter for a Corvette now. The logo is molded into the carbon fiber. Cop looked confused for a min, gave me a warning and I was on my way.

This is one of my favorite threads on RDP. The variety of stuff you work on is awesome. I'll say it again, if I ever hit the lottery, I'd have a new project in your shop every year.

Seems like a life time ago.

Bonesfab, if you could contact this guy he would be wealth of info for a low budget build. He was a college kid with zero money when he built this car. I always admired his tenacity and intelligence to figure out how to make the latest computer controlled things work with vintage architecture. He used to drive that car in the snow and or rain with the top down, he would wear a full faced motorcycle helmet if it was nasty. Saw him many times on the slog home thinking WTF before I met him. The top never went up on that car.

It’s already running. Need a few more things emissions wise. I have all new brakes to do for it and a set of lowering springs and shocks and struts since it has been sitting so long. It should be driving next week.

The 928 was one of the best Grand Tourer cars ever built, I had a 87 s4 and loved that car, but definately meant to go long distances very fast, not so much a sports car in the 911 sense. I did manage to find possibly the best GT by chance a couple years ago and its unreal, CL65. Flew to Pennsylvania to pick it up and drove it home, it was an amazing drive. One of many fuel stops I am filling up next to a Dukes of Hazard good ole boy, he lets out a little whistle and in a great southern drawl, "V12 biturbo, I bet she scoots". I replied, "Oh yeah, but shes a thirsty bitch". May have seen north of 170 coming out of Kingman when the escort began chirping. I pulled into Havasu without incident and smiled.
