It’s already running. Need a few more things emissions wise. I have all new brakes to do for it and a set of lowering springs and shocks and struts since it has been sitting so long. It should be driving next week.
If you click on the link I provided you will find a well proven and documented path to so many budget minded up grades to your 3rd gen... with GM parts from late model Camaros and Corvettes. The 3rd gen crowd is really cheap, but mechanical capable. Want to now how to adapt C5 or C6 corvette brakes to a 3rd gen F body? How about adapting 5th gen Camaro or 2003-5 GTO IRS or CTS-V to a 3rd gen... LS swap is a well traveled path in those forums for the last 20 years.

A typical 3rd gen F body weights about 3400lbs. Ditching the cast iron V8 for a LS can get these things down to 3200 pounds and the suspension and architecture is really good and delivers solid to G ratings to this day. The Uni body is the week link, these things are flimsy even with SFC's.

Well it is alive and made it out of the shop under its own power. I present Mullet to the inmates. 1987 Camaro Z28 that had been sitting in a backyard for 15 plus years. My neighbor found it and turned me on to it. 500.00 initial investment. Got a ls1/4l60e out of the ex girlfriends crashed Firebird (pretty much free) and had a shop kid over the summer so most of the grunt work. Going for the ref approval and bar label on it. Did the Vintage air up grand and the Dakota dash also. Holley makes the mounts, trans crossmember and exhaust kit for it. Mainly weekends from me and we have it running. All new brakes. New adjustable Kyb shocks and struts and a set Eibach lowering springs. They are real 3 piece BBS wheels that were acquired in a package of crap. Going to make it a bitchen driver and it should get 25-30 mpg on the freeway.

So people comment on how much shit I acquire. Old guy stops by earlier today. I happened to be upfront looking up parts. He starts with he has this 40 ford pick up with a flathead. Wants to go over it and make sure it’s good. He goes onto he has this ford truck sitting in a yard. He says people are stealing parts off it. He says if I want it I could have it. Problem is the space thing. He sends me a couple of pics I have driven by this truck a hundred times. 1976 f250 I believe. Has a flat bed on it but also has the original bed on the flatbed. supposedly has a built 460 in it. I almost have to do it because I have no self control nor a wife to tell me not to.

I did manage to find possibly the best GT by chance a couple years ago and its unreal, CL65. Flew to Pennsylvania to pick it up and drove it home, it was an amazing drive. One of many fuel stops I am filling up next to a Dukes of Hazard good ole boy, he lets out a little whistle and in a great southern drawl, "V12 biturbo, I bet she scoots". I replied, "Oh yeah, but shes a thirsty bitch". May have seen north of 170 coming out of Kingman when the escort began chirping. I pulled into Havasu without incident and smiled.
That's gotta be fun to drive. A quick search reveals:

Maximum Horsepower @ RPM
621 @ 4800

Maximum Torque @ RPM
738 @ 2300

While it must be close to the ultimate road car, I would be really tempted to repeatedly burn off and replace the $600 each MO Yokohama V105 pairs on the rear.

😁

So we did a bunch of work on this over the years for a buddy of mine. Well he passed away a few years ago and his wife kept it. Well got the call she was ready to sell it. And my dumb ass bought it. 1972 2wd blazer. It’s in pretty good shape just a little dated. So that makes four blazers now. Man I need therapy. Funny part is I have pics of this one and the white one from 6 years ago when they were both at the shop. Just a crate engine with a 8-71 and twin snipers. All air bagged

Might be intervention time... can these slammed versions pull the $60-75k range? Haven't seen these types on BAT or anywhere really. Specialty niche' Im guessing.
I do appreciate that some of your clientele doesn't build to sell but more to enjoy. Thats beautiful way to go I think.... I mean they die and wives bring em back

The 2wd versions are at least twice as hard to find as the K/10 Blazers. Maybe even 3-4x as rare.

I hardly ever see them for sale, can you even recall the last one you saw at an auction?

I will have to get the family portrait of at least 3 of them. Big black, GLDTOOF and sparky as this one has been called
Post it up! I’m a sucker for a blazer. Had a 72 and a 73. Been looking for one lately. Seems they have turned into gold nowadays. Crazy how much money they are bringing.

Man I bet you regret that, they are really expensive now! I had an 81 square body, and loved it so much, sadly did not see this future coming like you where they are worth 10-20x what they used to be worth.

On the flip side, you can buy one for 50k that has had 100k worth of work to it......and surpasses all the OG stock stuff by light years.

Bought my 72 right after high school and some dumb ass blew a stop sign and killed it. Bought the 73 and built a 383 for it. Drove that truck for years. Had my oldest daughter in 94 and sold it in 96. My first car in high school was a 72 chevelle that I bought for 750 dollars. My dad and I built a 327 with fuelie heads and trw pop ups and 3/4 race cam is what my dad called it in 87 🤪. Can't believe all the cars I went through in the 80's and 90's. I could probably retire with what they are worth now🤣

Well that’s one benefit of me not selling much. I don‘t have regrets from selling them. My portfolio just takes up some space.

Im on a K5 build site with a guy doing a ground up all new one and I was teasing him a few months ago about how he'll certainly get $100K for it.... he laughed saying his last ground up build brought $200K! Its not a restoration its actually all new materials built from scratch.... I didn't know folks were even doing that.

I am in a bit of a quaundry on the orange 72 build. Do I say fuck it and order a Roadstershop chassis for it and make it super bad ass or just a lift kit and a rebuild of the stock chassis? How much more money will the chassis net on the final sale?

Those chassis are getting pretty spendy. Are they more affordable as a vendor?

I'm not sure the chassis will gain you the $20,000+++ they cost but it's hard to say. Some of these high dollar builds are bringing all the money.

What about a happy medium with a good quality shock (king or fox 2.5) and build your own shock towers or something that still look more impressive than just a skyjacker kit.

What does a icon or delmo build cost these days all in?

A chassis for the blazers are 45k plus. depending on options. The chassis that is under the scout was 45k from what i was told.

Dang

I knew they have gone up a ton in the last couple years. 45k is a ton but I know they are pretty equipped and everything is bonker$ now. (frame,shocks,links,9",tank,etc...)

Shoot the currie axels are probably 15k alone easy.

in all fairness the RS$ at 40k seems like a better deal than the standard at 30k...lol

They always sell high new IMO, the question is really what the crazy economy/market is doing at the time you go to sell it...

My opinion is that there is an ass for every toilet, sometimes it takes a bit to find one that fits perfectly.

I forget, is the orange one a 4x4 or 2wd?

I've honestly never seen a real sick 2wd with a modern suspension setup like a RSC with all the good shit, ladder bar setup etc. Would be a cool build.

Of course my favorite idea is to build a pre-runner type with King 3.0 Custom shit and 20" of suspension travel, pure race on the street! 1000HP Whippled LS based Custom BBC.

Making that work as a 4x4 would be the challenge. LOL.

I guess there is the problem, even the top tier RSC only has 10 and 12" of travel. Nice...but for 40k, I would expect more.

I think they are more catering to the jeep market vs the trophy truck crowd. It will work plenty good with 10-12" of travel and solid axels. Not that anyone is really trashing there 200k custom built blazer...lol

For 45k imagine the strength and support you could add to a stock frame. If you are looking for an easy platform to build off, I guess it's a decent place to start, seems expensive to me though, considering it's not THAT much different than the Camaro frames that they have been building for YEARS now...for 20k as the top tier.

How much do you have in it now?
I paid 10k for the complete truck which was a pretty good score. I have been acquiring parts for it so I have probably 15k total so far. The other problem is now I need to do something blown in it since the other three are boosted. Fucked up logic. And I do have a Magnusson laying around we took off a lt corvette. So that might be the way I go. Blown 6.2 lt with a 6 speed auto.

Look at all it includes...

Dana 44/60 axels
4 link suspension
Fox 2.5 coilovers

You are at 25k in just parts real quick before you even get to the chassis.

I would say you could easily make the stock chassis program work for a better deal when compared to the 30k stock A arm geometry option.

I am going to keep the blower and the hood for now, but ditch the wheels and tires. I have some american polished 200s in 15" that i think would look much better on it. Need to get it up on a lift and fix a few things and some general maintaince on it. Been running errands and lunch with it but thats as far as I want to drive it for now.

No I get it, it's a package. Value is pretty high as top tier parts used. Still....I'm having issues with only 10-12" of travel for 45k. I am convinced you could make it better yourself for less, granted you are eating the labor.

Lotta dudes are playing the K5 profit game at moment and its been holding strong. Iconic vehicle appealing to broad audience and we all know detroit can't produce anything as cool in some remake new aged vehicle. There can be only one.

Happened to be at Cal Speedway during a track day and one of my drivers said lets see what she does, https://www.instagram.com/p/CbGwgyVJVYT/

4 laps burned up the brakes and rotors, but at more than 160 into turn 1, holy crap it was eye opening just how much power it really has. It was like a locomotive coming onto the front straight. Mind you completely stock running with full track toys.

So since mullet is running and driving now it’s time to work on the chevelle project. 1969 chevelle I picked up as a roller. Already has a powder coated chassis and Global west arms. I started ordering parts for it a few months ago. Vintage air, Tremec 5-speed, Dakota dash, Holley front drive and a set of drop spindles set up for C6 hubs and brakes. The Baer 14” 6-pistons I had laying around from when a customer went to a smaller brake set up. The engine is a 396 I had laying around we took out of another customers Elcamimo. Nothing too special. If you notice the extra 10 rib pulley on the front of it, my buddy works at Vortech and wants to use the car to R&D a blower kit for it. No problem, I will even make it easier for them. Going to put a Holley terminator computer in it. If this engine doesn’t do well with the boost I have enough laying around to put something else together. The wheels and tires are from another customer that changed his mind after he already ordered them. I have been trying to use some of what I have laying around on it but my dysfunctional ass won’t let me do it half ass

I have been trying to use some of what I have laying around on it but my dysfunctional ass won’t let me do it half ass View attachment 1289468 View attachment 1289469 View attachment 1289470 View attachment 1289471 View attachment 1289472 View attachment 1289473 View attachment 1289474 View attachment 1289475 View attachment 1289476

Is that a 73 with a like 87 front end? I always thought that was the best look on those trucks.
